Could & Should Ric Flair get "one last run" as World Champion?
I actually think Ric Flair could have a great "last run" as champion. Plus, I think they could continue the Triple H/Ric Flair feud to do it.
The Buildup Everybody loves the underdog story. Triple H demolishes Cena at WrestleMania and has been on a roll for months. Ric Flair wins the MITB ladder match. The next night on RAW, Flair says he knows what he is doing with this breifcase. (WOOO!) The RAW after the inevitable Cena/HHH II match @ Backlash, Ric Flair says he cashed in his money in the bank ladder match, but the match won't be until SummerSlam in August! Triple H then comes out and says he put him out to pasture once, and he'll do it again. So, Triple H just dominates all the way up to SummerSlam. Ric Flair, on the other hand, isn't doing so well in his matches. He is winning them, but not in the dominating fashion that "The Game" is. Triple H keeps on hammering how he beat the man within an inch of his life. Ric Flair keeps on talking about the return of the real Ric Flair. Finally, you get to the RAW before SummerSlam and you have the inevitable Tag Team Match. I am not going to guess the partners (but I'd have it be 2 guys who are facing each other at SummerSlam so you can do 2 for 1 and get the undercard match over). The faceoff between HHH and Flair happens. Triple H cheap shots Flair, and just beats the living shit out of him. He smirks and goes for the pin...BUT RIC FLAIR KICKS OUT! H picks up Flair and pedigrees him. He goes for the pin...FLAIR KICKS OUT! Triple H growing pissed goes for another pedigree. Pins him...but FLAIR KICKS OUT AT THE VERY LAST POSSIBLE SECOND. Triple H snaps and gets out of the ring and gets his sledgehammer and a steel chair. Triple H puts the chair around Ric's neck, but as the ref gets in H's way to stop him from doing the unthinkable, Flair gets up and takes the chair off his neck and blasts Triple H in the head. Triple H is almost out cold and Ric Flair takes the chair and hits HHH square in the balls with the chair. Ric then locks on the Figure 4 as Triple H is screaming in pain. It literally takes the whole locker room to get Flair off of Triple H. Ric Flair is held back by 20 guys as Triple H lies limp in the ring as RAW goes off the air. *Usually, this would signify the heel will win at the PPV. SUMMERSLAM Triple H does a prematch interview and says that Ric Flair didn't hurt him, but rather pissed him off and put "The Game" on a level he has never been before. (Pun intended). Ric Flair says that tonight, he is going to show the world WHY he is the greatest wrestler...ever. Main Event time... The match goes back and forth. Triple H is indeed on another level, but so is Ric Flair. They repeat the "FUCK YOU!" and "I'll FUCKING KILL YOU" spots they did in their cage match back at Taboo Tuesday. Triple H finally gets the definitive upper hand and lands a vicious pedigree. He goes for the cover, but just like 6 days ago, Ric Flair kicks out. "Triple H is livid!" as JR would say, and picks Flair up and gives him 2 consecutive pedigrees, and he goes for the pin. However, Ric Flair manages to get his foot on the rope. Triple H knocks the leg off the top and hooks it and tells the ref to count, but Flair gets the shoulder up. Triple H, looking both exhausted and angry, rolls out of the ring and grabs a sledgehammer and steel chair. He then yells at Flair that The Nature Boy hasn't been the man for 15 years, but Ric Flair low blows Triple H and grabs Triple H's leg. He kicks it and stomps on it before dragging Triple H to the dead center of the ring. Ric Flair locks on the Figure 4 and WOOs at each of Triple H's screams. They do a couple of the "Figure 4 Nearfall" spots, but Triple H tries to reverse it and finally manages to turn it around, but before Triple H can even do anything, Ric Flair has spun it back around and Triple H is in agony. Triple H finally lets out one more scream before tapping out to Ric Flair on August 28,2006 in Boston, Massachussetts to make Ric Flair the 18-time World's Heavyweight Champion. Triple H rolls out of the ring and lies limp on the arena floor as Ric Flair has his moment. The Reign As Champion This is WWE's chance to put a young guy over. Also, this will give Triple H a few months off in order to spend time with Stephanie as the time for the birth of their child draws near. Ric Flair comes out the next night and is on a level we haven't seen in quite some time. (WOOO!) Then, Shelton Benjamin's music hits (hopefully, momma is dead by this point) and he comes out and reminds Ric that he beat him for the Intercontinental title just months ago and now he is going to do it for the World Heavyweight Championship. You do a month long fued with this, with Flair retaining at Unforgiven, but still putting Shelton over. (This is the greatest talent Ric Flair has). After the Shelton Fued, have him do the same with Chris Masters. (Ending at a SNME or a uberhyped episode of RAW). During all of this, RVD and Carlito are in the finals of a #1 contender's tournament but all hell breaks loose and it ends in a DRAW. So, at Cyber Sunday (this year's version of Taboo Tuesday) the fans will vote as to who gets the title shot against Ric Flair. The fans obviously pick RVD (since I don't see WWE ever turning him heel). He comes close, until Carlito interferes. (The actual main event will be another fued blow-off, I think Kane/Big Show would be a cool fued to blow off here). So, Vince books a Triple Threat Elimination Match @ Survivor Series. (Survivor Series = Surviving) Carlito gets eliminated after Flair and RVD decide to double team him out of the match (so they can finally have a match between them, like it should have been at CS, however, since Carlito is double-teamed he doesn't look weak). Flair and RVD battle back and forth and the "story" of the match is Flair is working on RVD's legs (to take out his main weapon, along with set up the figure 4) and RVD is working on Flair's back (plane crash, make the frog splash more devastating). Flair locks on the figure-4, but RVD gets the ropes and Flair lets go. RVD delivers a sickening spinning heel kick and limps to the corner...and jumps onto the turnbuckle... 5-STAR FROG SPLASH 1 2 3! ROB VAN DAM- WWE CHAMPION! ````` This accomplishes alot of things. It establishes great feuds, promotes continuity, and puts over a lot of young guys who now have a credible main event under their belt. (Which is probably why WWE won't ever do something like this.) Thoughts? Opinions? |

Xero...love the classic change one thing around, but if you ever edit-quote me to say something against Ric Flair again...I might just have to put you in the Figure Four...OR rake your eyes, low blow, etc. Now one more time for the people who know that diamonds are forever...and so is Ric Flair...

It would be an insult to every longtime WWE fan's intelligence.
Flair was losing to The Hurricane a couple years ago. He's more than 55 years old. |

I voted no, let me explain.
I love Flair, he is brilliant and he can still really entertain me every week. However we are now at a point where WWE has to make their titles mean something. This is a key moment in WWE history, we need a champion now that we will remember. Someone that can carry this wrestling company, not a fan friendly, kissing babies kind of champion like Batista, or a fad like John Cena. We need a great wrestler who can take this belt, run with it and establish themselves as a main eventer who has earnt their spot with years of hard work. Someone who can hold this belt for months and be remembered as a great champion. Cena sucks, it is as simple as that. Batista isn't much better. I can stand both of them and they are assetts to WWE. But for God's sake get the belt off Cena and don't give it back to Batista. Kurt Angle is World Champion and I am so happy with that, but the WWE title is what matters and great champions should hold this belt. Don't get me wrong, Cena has earnt it, but he sucks. This is a turning point and a point at which I just wish we still had Chris fucking Jericho, he is exactly who WWE needs right now to take this belt and get it fucking over. We have no Jericho, and therefore the only option, the smart option, Rob Fucking Van Fucking Dam. |

Fuck no.
1. He is old. Come on, his back can't take much more. And don't get me started on the whole rubber skin thing. 2. He is old. It's time to start putting over the younger generation, not start holding them down again. I'm not saying he should job left and right, but he should be a stepping stone into main event status. Like The Rock and Mick Foley are these days. 3. He is old. Does he really need another title run? Besides, is he going to be able to work as frequently as Cena, or better yet, Batista if he gets the belt? |

If they wanted to, they could give The Undertaker's urn, Venis' jock strap, or Eddie's headstone a title run.
Can and should are not even remotely close to similar. Anyway, a vote to give Flair a last run is a vote to support the shit programming we get on a regular basis. Putting over aging, slow men who are no longer true draws instead of new stars is what's already hurting WWE. Flair will only aggravate that. |

I don't know. Flair as a champ = ratings
It may be pretty unrealistic, but think about how wild the fans would go the RAW after a ppv where Flair wins the title sick |

I am not in favour of Ric Flair getting another title run. I mean, think about it. You have guys hungry for the belt in Carlito, Chris Masters, Edge, Kane, Big Show, Rob Van Dam, Shelton Benjamin and even the members of The Spirit Squad. Time Ric Flair spends with the belt is time taken away from one of these guys.
Flair was great, and he can still pull off great matches, but as KK said, should and could are two entirely different things. At WrestleMania, I honestly believe Flair should be managing some guy going up against Shelton Benjamin for the IC Title (Charlie Haas?). Use his feud with Shelton as a chance to get a new guy into the IC Title scene. While reading your scenario (which is really well though out), I was thinking that the only way Ric Flair should ever get another title run, is under the following conditions: 1) A person feuding with the WWE Champion costs the WWE Champion the match. 2) Flair drops it not much more than a week later to a young talent like the aforementioned Shelton Benjamin cleanly. If something like that happened, I may be able to stomach it. Flair as Champion for any lengthy period of time is something I'm not too sure I could watch. |

Most TPWWers got all crazy ass pissed when I made a huge fucking deal out of Hogan's last run (Didn't deserve the first 5...nevermind)...but the greatest of all time, someone who does better matches today then most talent does in their prime, he doesn't deserve one final run with the Big Gold Belt?
Hell if Bret Hart asked a Canadian to give him the World Title run, they wouldn't even ask for the belt back. Bret's Canadian, and I am from Flair Country. |

I wouldn't be opposed to Flair getting a short final run, a couple of weeks or to the next PPV after he wins it, but not through MITB.
I would've given him that final run back in 2003 when he had that WHC match against Triple H on Raw. Triple H asked him to take a dive and later on Flair gave a pretty promo where he told him to be at his best. Would've been a good mark-out moment. |

As much as I would hate to see it, it would be a good nostaligiac run. Give him a title match and have him come close to winning it, it would make a great RAW main event like they did with him and Haitch in '03 but for God's sake don't give him the belt!
