Do graphics matter?
Do graphics matter to you? Like, if a game was one of the greatest ever, and you knew it, would you care if it had the graphics of an N64 or a grainy PSX title?
For me, no. If I KNOW I like it, I really don't care how shitty the graphics are. ![]() |

i didnt think so, but then i went back and tried to play some older ps1 and super nes games, and i couldnt do it. There are exceptions to the matter though: ff7, silent hill, etc. but the story has to really drive beyond the graphics.

Of course they don't.
I play games purely for the enjoyment. My enjoyment comes from what the game plays like as opposed to what it looks like. But most people disagree of course, most gamers on the internet seem to make their minds up on whether or not they'll buy a game just based on what it looks like. Or what Gamespot tells them. |

Obviously you can't make a big deal out of graphics when it comes to older games.
But newer games should meet a certain standard at the very least. Can you honestly justify putting a $50 (or more) price tag on something that looks like it was from a previous console generation? Because if the game doesn't make up for it in gameplay (which is the most important thing at the end of the day), it's just lazy game making. |

I don't understand what you're asking. Do graphics matter in old games or ones coming out?
I think graphics mean a lot. You can't say that a game in the past isn't any good because of it's graphics because at the time there were different standards. Graphics are the first thing people look at when they look at a game and the better they are the more interested the consumer will be. Not to mention how easily it is to get sucked into a game due to the graphics. Graphics are very important. |

It's about 50/50 for me. A game can have the most beautil graphics, but if the game has a shitty story/control issue's. The graphics can't make up for it, and I won't want to play it. ie the latest Wrestlemania game.

Well... I can't say Graphics don't matter, because they do, Graphics add so much to the overall feel of the game, battletanks in a warzone is so much more enjoyable when Battlefield 2 style graphics are used, could you play a tank game with blocks and still have the same gaming experience, it would entertain for sure, but obviously not as well.
Playstation & N64 style graphics are solid, I wouldn't even class them as crappy, most games on NES and everything below that are "shitty" graphics conpared to games of today. a great story with N64 graphics? I would play that for sure, I'd be a fool to turn a game down because it doesn't have hyper super rendering processors or whatever ![]() |

I think most current generation games have no excuse to have sub-par graphics. The technology is out there, and companies are using it. Unless the company is some small company and this is their first title.. they don't have funding, etc.. UNLESS they're legitimately having money problems, but still have a good game otherwise.. I probably won't like it.
Basically what I'm saying is, most good companies have no excuse for putting out games with bad graphics. It's an important thing these days because there is a huge line between decent and amazing graphics. As for old games. Who cares? Back when they came out the graphics were cool. And nobody really cared about graphics. Some of those old games are the most fun ever. I still play Zelda OOT, even though the graphics really aren't that great at all. But yeah.. new games need good graphics, because that's like 50% of the game right there. It can make or break a game. |

Graphics don't mean much to me for old or new games. One of my favorite games is still Katamari Damacy

To an extent, they do. However, usually, not. They are a crutch for people who are too lazy to come up with good games.

When I look at the 360 stuff compared to the PS2 stuff, I still pick the PS2 stuff everytime, based on gameplay alone. But the margin isn't that huge. However If you were to compare the 360 to say Tomb raider on the PS1 it's a different story as that game hasn't aged well.
So it's more to do with what your playing I think |

Yea I agree with what most people here are saying, graphics mean something... but they are not everything. I often find that good graphics can help raise the story, fun factor, and gameplay. I doubt a game like Metroid Prime would be as fun if the worlds you are exploring looked terrible. However like most people here I would rather choose a game with good gameplay but bad graphics over a game with bad gameplay but good graphics. Yea

To an extent of course, because with some games the graphics really set the mood, and thus enhance the gameplay by a large margin. But then games like OOT where graphics are meaningless and its all about gameplay mechanics.

yes graphics matter. I'd rather be playing a game at 1280x1024x32 w/ FSAA than 800x600x16
