The Return Of King Of The Ring: Has It Been Abused?
I mean, back in the day, it was a chance for mid carders to get over, But if guys like Kurt Angle (I have nothing against him, he's just already well established as a main eventer) are going to win it, is there any point in having it back?
Those are just my Two Cents on it though, What do you think? |

Angle wont win it.Its more than likely going to be Lashley, I expect a Lashley/Angle final.
I do find it funny that you're saying its been abused just because Kurt won the first match.(And thats mainly because Orton has been suspended) |

I thought it had been won by angle, I didnt know they were stretching it out... But still, should it be dominated by main eventers?..

Well there should be a balance i think. The tournament would look weak if it was just a bunch of mid-carders.The only problem this time round is that its too easy to predict who is going to win it.

Honestly, the King of the Ring has been fairly abused.
It should be a PPV with one big tournament consisting of all the main eventers, the mid-cards, and a select undercard guys. Then have a mid-carder win in a surprize and then go on to challenge for a major title. Or hell, have the WWE Champion win it to further cement his position as the top wrestler. The problem I always had with the King of the Ring in later years was that there was just 3 actual KOTR matches at the KOTR PPV. Then they'd have a cage match, tag match, wwe championship match and it really made the tournament seem kind of worthless. |

I disagree with your point that all the matches should be on PPV, the first round of the tournament is usually boring and puts me off of the PPV.

The only real problem I have is that it's a Smackdown! only tourney when it SHOULD be RAW and Smackdown!.

I definately think they should've held this in late July/August...make it traditional size w/ both shows involved. Then head into SummerSlam with the final 4 (the final match would then be interbrand)

I am just guessing this but The KoTR final will probably most likely be held at Judgement Day if they wanna build it that long. Then they can have the World Title match between the champ and the KoTR winner and the next Smackdown! PPV following Judgement Day. |

I always liked the idea of having it all on one PPV. Made it more special. I hated when they only put on a few of the matches.
I think they should have a smackdown side of the bracket and a Raw side of the bracket...then have the finals a smackdown guy vs raw guy. |

I knew the King of the Ring technically dated back past Bret Hart winning in 1993, but wow, I didn't realise how many great guys had won it. Just to clarify, didn't Haku win something which allowed him to call himself "King Haku"? Was this a King of the Ring tourney? 1992?
The WWE should really recognise their past Kings past Bret Hart's second win. It would only take a bit of retconning next year. By the way, I love the way this tourney has main event guys featured. It's been four years since Brock Lesnar one. The event doesn't have as much steam over those years. Give it to Paul London or Brian Kendrick this year and it means nothing. As far as I'm concerned, this is a re-establishment year for the King of the Ring. I also wouldn't mind it if they had three participants in every final eight former World Champions. I still think Chris Benoit should win this year. Kurt Angle loses his rematch to Rey Mysterio, there's no real point in doing another one. He also doesn't need a KOR win at this stage. Booker T is a solid competitor, and he would be able to do heaps with it, but a face should take it this year. That also rules out Mark Henry & Finlay. Bobby Lashley winning seems to Brock Lesnar-esque. The 2006 King of the Ring Finals should really be Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit, in my opinion. A classic wrestling match at The Great American Bash. Benoit wins and becomes 2006 King of the Ring. |

1993. Bret Hart. (Beat Bam Bam Bigelow in the final)
1994. Owen Hart. (Not sure who he beat) 1995. Mabel. (See above) 1996. Steve Austin. (Beat Jake Roberts in the final) 1997. Triple H. (Beat Mankind in the final) 1998. Ken Shamrock. (Beat The Rock in the final) 1999. Mr. Ass. (Beat X-Pac in the final) 2000. Kurt Angle. (Beat Rikishi in the final) 2001. Edge. (Beat Kurt Angle in the final) 2002. Brock Lesnar. (I think he beat RVD in the final) |

So yes, if you count the non-PPV KotR tournaments, Bret Hart is a two time winner; 91 & 93.

I think there were 32 guys involved that were paired off a la the "Deadly Draw" tag team tournament in WCW. But the catch was that the winners of each match were eliminated. Finally, it came down to two guys (who by this point had lost four straight tag team matches and were likely really pissed at each other). Those two guys then had a one-on-one mask vs. mask match. So, if you were the unfortunate bastard who lost all five tournament matches, you had to give up your mask. I think they had a provision in it where - if you weren't a masked wrestler - you had to shave your head or something. I wouldn't mind seeing something on a smaller scale in WWE with some kind of horrible stipulation awaiting the loser. |

I'm a huge fan of one night tournys so i hope they'll have at least the semi's on at judgement day. Don't think they will though.
I've decided to be a mark about the tourny, not think about who deserves to win and just cheer for Benoit. I'm gonna guess and say Henry will win it though (you know WWE can't resist Rey vs Henry) |

I think all of the King of the Ring matches should be on a King of the Ring PPV. Qualifying matches could be held on RAW AND Smackdown!, and then the brands could square off.

I'm not sure about how Haku got the title but I know Duggan got the title by beating Haku, and then Savage began calling himself Macho King after beating Duggan.

I agree. They should only allow wrestlers who were never champion before. If KOTR were a tourny to see who the best wrestler is, it's a bit redundant since they already have a big gold belt to do that. I'd rather see it be the beginning of the push that makes the next big main eventer. WWE prides themselves on being the winner of the Monday Night War because they brought up new, young tallent. By allowing a 5 or 6 time champion win the tournament that did just that during the MNW, they're making themselves into a clone of the old WCW.
