Do u think WWE will fuck up ECW?
Oh joy, my first pole post. With so many mixed reactions of the ECW start up and people sayin it may or may not work, i want to know what you feel about it. If yes, say why, if no, say why as well.

I'm pretty sure it will start off decent, but after time it will become more and more stagnant. I don't see this ECW venture as a permanent thing. As soon as guys like Little Guido, Super Crazy and Kid Kash start reminding the WWE that they are amazing cruiserweights, the WWE will bring them back into the WWE to wrestle that style for a larger audience. When it is revealed that the older guys like Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman and Sabu can't go anymore, the fans will be calling for new blood. That new blood will come in the form of guys like CM Punk, who as soon as they start getting over in ECW, will likely find themselves on a plane heading over to RAW or SmackDown! to be the "next huge jump from ECW to WWE".
I have a funny feeling the only constants in ECW will be The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Al Snow, Balls Mahoney, Axl Rotten and Rhino if they sign him in July. Whilst that will be fun for a while, eventually the nostaglia will wear off and the WWE will do another "acquisition" angle, where RVD, Tommy Dreamer and Rhino find themselves fighting for survival in the WWE world, while Sabu, Sandman, Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten are in the unemployment line. The big problem with ECW won't be whether or not Vince lets Paul and Tommy do what they want to do, but the underlying fact that Paul and Tommy really have no power when push comes to shove and the WWE seems talent catching on and becomming more polished. I really think ECW will just be a WWE talent farm. |

I think it's going to work. It won't be as big of a "cult" phenomenon as the original incarnation, but they've made several steps in the right direction.
- They tested the waters with last year's fantastic One Night Stand and DVD release. - They're letting Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer control the book. - They've signed a bunch of the old ECW stars (it wouldn't "feel" like ECW without Sandman or Sabu). - They're also planning to use it as a launching ground for new talent (just like the original ECW introduced us to...well, RVD, lucha libre, etc.) - They've already started laying the groundwork for some of the feuds we can expect to see once the "promotion" starts up, so it's not like they're just going to throw ECW in the deep end and see if it can swim. Granted, there's still a chance that Vince will try to sabotage it, but with the success of ONS and "The Rise And Fall Of ECW," I think he knows how much money there is to be made off of this. And, since it's in Paul & Tommy's hands, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. |

I actually think they'll pull off ECW pretty well. First, I'm sure the old ECW wrestlers will enjoy it, since it'll be run by Heyman but they will be paid by McMahon. Pretty much the best of both worlds for them.
And for the fans, I think they're positioning it for the indie/smark fans. The wrestlers will be either established ECW personalities or OVW graduates that aren't quite ready for Primetime. And if the Joey Styles promo was any indication, Vince is more than willing to let his ECW takes shots at Raw or Smackdown. This will allow ECW to still seem anti-establishment and for the "pure" wrestling fan, even though it's ultimately controlled by the WWE. For all the crap people talk about Vince McMahon (most warranted), he's not an idiot. While TNA isn't quite a threat to him, he's not going to give them an opportunity to be one. If Heyman and Dreamer books this like I think they will, it'll be light years better than TNA, and will probably steal smark fans from them. |

He's not an idiot, but he managed to fuck up some of the biggest things in wrestling history.
For like a decade, people had drooled over the concept of WWF/E vs WCW, knowing it wouldn't happen. Then we get it--And InVasion fucks it. |

I'm in the mix on this scenario. On one hand, I'm extremely (no pun intended) excited to see a return of ECW. On the other hand, if WWE keeps their hands in it at all, I can easily see it being a monumental failure.
If Paul and Dreamer are left alone to book it how they see fit, wrestlers are allowed to do ECW style matches (piledrivers included), and they geta decent timeslot, then yes I can see the promotion doing some great things. Maybe even sparking a new interest in wrestling for a lot of people. Let's be honest, most of the greta ideas WCW and WWF had from 96-99 were concepts and ideas that ECW had come up with. And you can almost pinpoint the decline of wrestling from when ECW closed its doors. On the other hand... Even if Heyman and Dreamer are left booking the show, if the WWE decides to limit some of the things they can do, we could also see a quick and painful death to the re-birth of ECW. If they do continue this route of a full on ECW vs WWE feud, ECW HAS to seem like a real threat to the WWE. The first mistake of the Invasion angle was that WWE guys were getting over way too often on the alliance guys. No threat was perceived by the audience, hence, the angle sucked ass. Like I said, I'm part excited and part terrified. ECW has a very special place in my memory and I don't ever want to see the legacy they laid down to be tarnished in any way. The Rise and Fall DVD was very truthful and ONS was great, so far so good, but I just wonder how long it will go on before Vince stops giving ECW the upper hand. |

However, I wouldn't hold my breathe on piledrivers and etc. being allowed. There's no way Vince would risk his investment by one of his wrestlers being injured. Personally, I think moves like that are overrated. If Heyman books good matches, and the wrestlers innovate the moves they are allowed to do, it should be more than acceptable. |

ECW could be on at 3 a.m. and I will watch it just 'cause of Sandman
I pray though that they don't tone down the violence but seeing the way WWE is now... I don't know what to think |

Personally I don't want to see hardcore wrestling and garbage stuff just becasue I think it's played out so I actually want to see less violence tbh.
Don't know how that would work in ECW, but yeah |

I don't think ECW will be all extreme this time around. Sure, they'll still do the famous ECW style matches, but think about it. Not all ECW matches were Hardcore. Most of them weren't violent other than a high spot or two and a chair shot here and there.
The majority of ECW hardcore matches will probably be high spots and fight-around-the-arena type things. It won't be all barbed wire, tables, fire, etc matches. |

I think Heyman is smart enough to make the new ECW different and fresh enough from the original, while maintaining its roots.
