Just thought of something... POTENTIAL RAW SPOILERS
When WWE was getting rid of all the different belts during the Invasion, didn't Edge have something to do with the Hardcore/US/IC unification? If so, that might be a logical step in the Foley/Edge alliance - to have Edge give Foley back the belt, and then Foley detroys it or somesuch?

No...Edge was only involved in the merging of the WCW United States Championship and The Intercontinental Championship beating Test, The Rest of the titles were merged as followed.


Dudley Boyz def. Hardy Boyz to merged the WWE/WCW Tag Team Titles
Chris Jericho def. Steve Austin to merged the WCW/WWE World Titles

A Year later.

RVD def Jeff Hardy to merge the IC/European Titles together.
RVD def. Tommy Dreamer to merge the IC/European & Hardocre Titles Together

Triple H def. Kane to merge the World Heavyweight Title & IC Title together.

I think the reason they merged the titles was because it was around the time it changed from WWF to WWE. They needed to get the big WWF logo's off the belts and it would take time to make a new belt so if they had them "inactive" or merge them, it wouldn't be a problem

I thought they merged them because suddenly they had an assload of titles, and half of them were redundant.

Well yeah. But once they started merging their own titles (not the ones added by the WCW buy out) then that's when I start to think about alternative motives behind it.

Why do I keep think that the IC title was once merged with the WWE championship? I can't find any proof in my searches, but I seem to remember it being absorbed into the WWE title in a Kane vs. Triple H match.
