Maybe after russo left and they never bothered with tom green goldust was a good choice for the "voyeur" spying on people kind of thing that gtv was all about?

I don't recall them ever calling it GDtv and if they had called it that there wouldn't be much of a mystery as to who was behind it in the first place.

It was called GDTV originally and then they fired Dustin Runnells. Then it became GTV and went nowhere.

1 - You think Tom Green would want to be on WWF TV every week?

2- You think Vince McMahon would pay Tom Green to be on WWF TV every week?

3 - You think Vince McMahon would ever let Tom Green humiliate him?

How exactly would Tom Green draw money from wrestling fans? See David Arquette. And what genius booked that again?

But no, it would never work. For the reasons Rob just listed, and about a dozen more.

Just searched and I came up with the following interview from Ed Ferrara in PWTorch.

Originally, GTV was to have been the harbinger of the return of Goldust (with him working unseen to stir up trouble with the rest of the roster prior to his return). We then had some problems with USA Network over bringing the character back, as they felt he was a bit too controversial for them (gimme a break)... so we then opened up our thinking to figure out who else it could have been. One possibility we kicked around: At the time, Tom Green was very hot on MTV, and we were trying to see if we could bring him in to stir up a bit of more mainstream publicity, but that never worked out. On the bright side, the angle was abandoned before we were able to go through the list of talents with a "G" in their name before we got to The Gobbledygooker.

http://www.pwtorch.com/artman/publis...le_13980.shtml

So it apparently WAS considered, but after Goldust left.

Explain to me how exactly it would have drawn. The concept of drawing money is simple - wrestling fans like someone so much that they pay money to buy tickets to see that person or they buy PPV's to watch that person wrestle.

At the time Tom Green had his moment, Raw is War was by far the highest rated show on cable and was absolutely murdering his show in the ratings. What new people could he possibly attract to watch Raw?

The idea is the two bases were not the same, which really seems to be an inane assumption. Especially since, even if this was true, it'd mean a loss of some of the wrestling fanbase, and if the two weren't largely overlapping, the risk to a larger fanbase trying to draw in a smaller fanbase would be asinine.

If you start thinking that about everyone who disagrees with you and has any degree of knowledge on the matter being discussed, you will soon start accusing 80% of the wrestling forum of superiority complexes.

I know, it can be intimidating and inferred as "I'm always right," But really.

Why? People didn't buy films that he was in so why would they watch wrestling shows which is a whole different ball game plus he would have a 99.9% chance of having some wrestler whoop his arse. If you like Tom Green, you don't want to see him getting his arse handed to him on a wrestling show. And chances are any Tom Green fans who like wrestling are already watching Raw thus not adding new fans and thus him not being a draw. Jay Leno is a far bigger celeb in terms of the audience his show attracts and did he draw in WCW?

You could debate other celebs could draw. There are many celebs that could have drawn huge money over the years in various situations - Mike Tyson, Dennis Rodman (and they did), Lennox Lewis, Shaq, Ray Lewis, Tonya Harding, etc
