Help: I Don't Like TNA
I don't like TNA. I really don't know why. I was gonna make a rant thread talking about what I don't like about it but I wanna try something different.
I want whoever digs TNA to explain to me it's appeal, and maybe I'll see it in some new light. I always knew of TNA, but I began watching it in the last month. Not impressed. I loved the days of WWF/WCW/ECW so it isn't WWE Fanboyism, and alot of the TNA talent is pretty cool. So here it is. TNA, defend it. I'm listening with an open mind. |

I was hoping you were looking for a way to help make it go away cause I'd have recommended persuading Paul Heyman to take over the accounting.

I look at it like this, theres no point in having someone talk you into watching it. if you dont like somthing ... dont watch it.

Yeah man. Can't really help you "like" anything. If you want to watch TNA, you will. If you don't, you don't.

I find it hard to watch because:
1. the booking is all over the place. 2. the ridiculousness of the spot monkeys (Sonjay Dutt & Amazing Red, mainly). And I LIKE spotfests. 3. JJJ holding everyone down (well, not so much with Christian around). 4. The set looks like a piece of crap. Get a bigger budget, please. 5. The announce team. GOD. |

If I could donate money, I would 5. Care to join the "Get Mike Teney and Michael Cole in a ring together and see who can beat the crap out of each other first" fund? |

I like TNA, but I don't go out of my way to always watch it.
Whereas with Raw and Smackdown it's like "Wrestling's on tonight... gotta make sure I don't miss it". With TNA, if it's on and I come across it I'll watch it, otherwise I'm not too fussed. I gotta admit I enjoy some of the spots though... I think people are just digging into it too much. WWE is by far better when it comes to ring psychology, but some TNA matches can be pretty fun to watch. I don't care what other people say, I enjoy watching AJ Styles (and have trained with him before. ![]() |

Samoa Joe is unconvincing to me. He should tag with Umaga. RVD says he's good, so I wait for Joe to have a good match. Well... RVD also said they were friends. So he'd say nothing but good things.
There's 4 different angles I could think of that Sting can enter WWE with. What's his beef with the company? |

I think it's his christian beliefs or something about the company being immoral. At least that's what I heard during the attitude era, but then again it's no different today.

HBK seems ok with WWE. He promotes God better than some Pastors I know. During the special shows for Eddie it was also evident that many WWE 'entertainers' were pretty religious. |

What's the diff between X-Division and everything else, anyway? I had an impression that it was a highflyer sort've thing (from early promos). But Joe's matches look like everything else. TNA seems to like ending shows with actionless promos or mid-card matches. This reminds me of WCW. A few weeks ago Sting, JJ, Lex Luger, Buff Bagwell, and Scott Steiner were in the ring together. This reminds me of WCW as well. Not complaining, just giving insight on why I can't mesh with the show. It just seems off to me. I officially hate the stupid ring. They do nothing different with it. Being different for different's sake is childish and unbecoming of a rival promotion. This may be a low blow but God... The fuckin fans are as annoying as the announcers. They wanna be ECW fans so bad. They're channeling "I love my brand to death" but I think there's a pop-cue machine in there somewhere. It doesn't help that they get loudest during promos and not actual matches. Don't tell me they're actually ECW fans, because ECW fans weren't impressed with WCW. And TNA is very much like WCW. Still, I actually wish Goldberg would get in there. He'd fit. And I'd watch it. |

Michaels is a bad example, as he uses his religion as a marketing tool and an excuse to not do what people want him to do. Sting (And I use the stage name because I'm referring to interviews which were in face paint, if not character) has always talked about brand loyalty and such, so I'd always assumed Jesus had little to do with it. WCW was immoral, and he stuck with it to the end. But again, that's possibly a KAYFABE statement of loyalty. I just happen to wonder whta morality would have to do with it when WCW was hardly better, and TNA is about as moral as WWE. |

This. Is Not. An Excuse. Samoa Joe is sold as a monster because he was a monster in the Indies. The TNA smark mutants are probably aware of this, Indie fans are aware of this, etc. Like I said. Not an excuse. Because the casual viewer will tune in, and see this guy with 3 moves being called "The Samoan Submission Machine" and go "WTF, why is that fat fuck wasting my time?" It's bad marketing to market a guy who comes off as lazy and boring based on a reputation the TV public won't understand. However, I'd downloaded SJ matches before my computer was totally fucked. He did good in the indies and the like, even though he looks like shit. He's not worthless, but why would you know that? If you're marketing to the 800,000 indie smarks in this country, it's a good move. If you're marketing to 800,000 smarks, though, you're probably better without a national TV show and going back to PPVs. |

I don't like it either, but you have to look past the old guys and don't look at the main event scene.
The cruiserweights they have are pretty good especially AJ Styles. I didn't watch that much but that's because their time slot is bad. |

Actually, I've never bothered to see Joe's work in the Indies. I've grown into a fan since I've seen him in TNA. Although, I don't get the whole Samoan Submission Machine shit...since he uses only one submission, but overall, he's just a badass MMA style wrestler.

Yeah, but I totally forget about his being fat because he's a straight up ass kicker. People like Rikishi and Yoko, you realize theyre fat, but not with Joe. Being as agile as he is...

There's some parts of TNA that's enjoyable/watchable. Alex Shelley and Christian are both gold on the mic. The Christian/Abyss feud is decent. As tag teams go, I like Team 3D, The James Gang, and AMW (without the confusing as fuck Jackie Gayda storyline). And Sting has his moments.
But, dear god, please replace Don West and the dumbass TNA fans. And it would be nice if they gave 90% of their charisma-less/bland/generic X-division people a gimmick. Being black and small is not a gimmick, Jay Lethal. Calling yourselves The Naturals or Diamonds in the Rough doesn't actually make you stand out. |

How To Fix... Don West - Kick him out of the booth and replace him with Jim Cornette. The "Impact Zone" Fans - Start taping your house shows! Lack Of Gimmicks - Midcard promo time. It's amazing what a little bit of mic time for someone can do for their character. Fans already know the extent of Jarrett, Christian, Sting, Steiner, Abyss, Alpha Male, Rhino, Team 3D, Nash, AMW, and the James Gang's characters. Yet, they're the ones who get all the mic time. |

Great fixes, Loopy. It amazes me how TNA sometimes doesn't realize a very simple concept...if I know who the fuck you are, I'll pay to see you wrestle. When I first started watching TNA, Alex Shelley was just some random dude with weird hair. Then they gave him a camera and mic time...and now I'm a huge Shelley mark. Out of Team Canada, the one I like watching the most is Eric Young, because he's the only one who isn't a stereotypical heel. And the only reason I can stand Monty Brown matches is that I at least get his character.
TNA always talks about establishing new stars, but they rarely put the effort into doing it. Wrestling is the backbone of the industry, but the true stars (Hogan, Rock, Austin, Flair) made themselves with their charisma and mic time. |

Very well put, KoM.
Of course, all of this would be a lot easier to do if TNA had two hours per week instead of just one. Then again, Spike isn't liable to give them a two-hour show until they can draw more of an audience. But they can't build an audience unless they build up their characters. And it's tough to build up their characters on a one-hour show. |

Instead of being WCW 2000 revisted, TNA should focus on the talent that separates it from any other wrestling promotion.
