Top 5 sporting moments EVER
We should have a competition to see what are the 5 greatest sporting moments ever. Here's how I reckon we should do it:
1. Everybody lists their greatest moments ever (it doesn't have to be that you've witnessed, it can have happened in 1483 for all I care, but there must be proof that it happened) and then from those we get a list of events to vote for. Note: These events must be famous on a WORLD scale, so for instance the Boston Red Sox winning the World Series doesn't count because nobody outside the USA gives a fuck about it. 2. For an event to qualify, it must have approval from somebody from America, Canada, England/Wales/Ireland AND Australia/New Zealand. (We should probably have 1 credible poster - who knows and understand sports from all around the world - from each region as "Judges", but I won't represent Australia because I don't give a fuck about poofter sports like soccer & gridiron, so therefore my opinion will be biased) 3. From the remaining list, we have a vote for the best sporting events/moments ever and the top 5 will be the 5 best ever (unless I don't agree with the results in which I will over-rule ![]() My nominations are: - Mohammad Ali's First Round Knockout vs Sonny Liston. (If this isn't on the final vote then somebody will die) - Ali Lighting the flame at Atlanta - Maradonna's "Hand of God" in 1986 (If the poms are the only one who rule against this then I'm putting it through due to bias) - Kieran Perkins being the first person ever to break 15mins in the 1500 freestyle, 1992 (or was it 1996?) - Jonny Wilkinson vs the rest of the world 2003 Rugby World Cup. (As much as I hate the cunt and the way they played during the tournament, he singlehandedly won the Cup for them and the final against Australia was one of the most exciting sporting matches ever) - Bradman's career, by far the greatest cricketer ever - Jordan's 3-peat with the Bulls Obviously probably not all of these will go through, but it's something to get you all started on. |

Easy would be if we didn't need to travel nearly the whole world round in 4 days, the only time the whole squad has had together for 4 years, for the only 2 meaningful games we've had in that time against a far superior team of cheats, divers and savages intent on using every dirty trick and technicality to fuck us up. Oh, and that's all we got, too. No chance of getting through by winning our group; playoff or nothing. Gimme Cyprus or the Faroe Islands anyday. Easy indeed ![]() |

The 1972 Russia/Canada Summit Series. 8 games where the bosses actually let their employees play hookey from work, as they did too. Simply to watch the best series of hockey ever played probably.
Canada realized then and there that they werent the ONLY hockey power around. It was about way more then just a game of Hockey. It was a way of life, culture.... So Hendersons goal was the stuff of legend. |

My top 5 ( a tiny bit biased but not by much )
5) Reggie Miller scoring 25 points in the 4th qrt at Madison Sqaure Garden agains the Knicks , helping the Pacers win the game and giving the infamous choke sign to Spike Lee. One of the best rivalries ever. Knicks/Pacers 4) Peyton Manning breaking the single season TD record throwing his 49th to Brandon Stokely against the Chargers. 3) David Ortiz in the 2004 ALCS. Nuff said 2) Jordans buzzer beater over Ehloe. Thats where the Jordan phenomenon started and i'd argue thats the most rerunned buzzer beater in NBA history. 1) Kirk Gibsons HR off Dennis Eck in the 1st game of the World Series. I watched Beyond the Glory where they focused on that. Simply amazing. Honerable mentions ( for me atleast ) : Miller pushing off Jordan and nailing the game winning 3 pointer in his face. It was a statement . I'm not sure any guard ever rised to the occasion against Jordan like Reggie did in that game. He was on a bum ankle. Some would argue that he pushed off, but i'd argue that theres 5 seconds to go let them play. And play they did. The Pacers went on to lose that series. But during the Bulls domination of basketball. The Pacers were the only team to seriously give them a run. And that shot should be played when Reggie goes to the HoF. He truely stuck it to the man that night. |
