Discussion: Evolution

Thoughts on Evolution. Discuss.

Could have it been done better? Or was it perfect?

Was it drawn out too long? Too short?

Did they screw it up by having Orton go babyface too soon?

What were some things you didn't expect to happen? (ie Batista becoming the biggest breakthrough star to come out from it)

What did you like best about them?

Discuss

ITS STILL REAL TO ME DAMMIT!!!!

I thought it was good.

I liked how they made Batista get irritated week after week at Triple H. They did it very slowly, which was good.

Evolution had the four best heels in the business at the time. They ended it too short. Even though Orton and Batista a very high up now I think if they stayed with the Evolution faction for longer it could have induced a higher status. IMO.

Evolution just may be my favorite stable of all time. Not too much they could have done to make it better, in my eyes. The Batista/Triple H buildup was brilliance. While I didn't really like Orton turning face after beating Benoit, it just made sense to do it. He was getting cheers.

^agreed. Evolution is probably my favorite stable. Ditto on Batista. Although I think they might (well, not might, 'did') pust Orton too fast into the title picture. But hey, wtf, they had to crush Lesnar's 'youngest champ' record.

Hmm, a new poster with brains and all required chromosones. Sweet.

Anyway, I don't think putting the World Heavyweight Championship on Randy Orton was the problem. I think the whole feud with Evolution was the problem. My ideal booking for Orton's title reign, was for him to beat Benoit at Summerslam '04, then again on RAW with Evolution's help, then the next week, when Triple H requested Orton hand over the World Championship, he obliged. Benoit then gets pissy at Orton for not running with the ball, and challenges him to a match at Unforgiven. Triple H faces either Edge or Shawn Michaels (I'm only using them as they were other candidates in the Taboo Tuesday poll that year, there may have been someone else more appropriate). Triple H retains the title with help from Randy Orton.

At Taboo Tuesday, the fans choose between Benoit and the guy who didn't face Triple H at Unforgiven. The guy who did face Triple H at Unforgiven, faces Ric Flair. So let's chalk that up to Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels. Let's assume Chris Benoit gets more votes than Edge (Edge got more votes in the actual poll, but without Shawn Michaels there, it'll probably be more focused on Benoit being the top guy), so we get Triple H vs. Chris Benoit and Randy Orton vs. Edge. Ric Flair beats Shawn Michaels with help from Batista, Edge defeats Randy Orton and Triple H has Benoit beat, as Flair and Batista get involved, but Randy Orton accidentally costs Triple H the match and the title.

At Survivor Series, Evolution faces Chris Benoit, Edge, Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho (for lack of a better babyface). Batista gets disqualified, allowing Edge to be pinned by Ric Flair. Jericho pins Flair with the Lionsault. Triple H pins Chris Jericho with heel shenanigans from Orton. Chris Benoit gets Randy Orton in the Crippler Crossface and Triple H uses the opportunity to nail Shawn Michaels with a sledgehammer. Orton taps to the Crossface. Triple H throws Benoit into his corner, where HBK inadvertently gets the tag, and Triple H hits an easy Pedigree for the pin. Evolution runs out after a ref bump, but they beat down Triple H. Benoit goes up, hits the Diving Headbutt for three. Chris Benoit, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho & Edge win whilst Evolution is now based around Randy Orton.

At New Year's Revolution, Orton challenges Benoit, again, this time beating him with help from Batista and Flair, and then Triple H wins the 2005 Royal Rumble. Randy Orton vs. Triple H as the main event of WrestleMania 21. I could have seen some kind of Chris Benoit vs. Batista w/ Ric Flair match as well.

Evolution was a great stable, they just fucked up the Orton turn, in my opinion. I wouldn't object to it if they revived the stable. Randy Orton can be the present, anyone from Ken Doane to Johnny Jeter to Mark Jindrak can be the future. The past can be someone like Arn Anderson, or just make it a future stable.

With the rumoured HHH vs Orton feud coming up later this summer, it wouldn't surprise me to see a new Orton-led Evolution faction.

If this does transpire, I think the members should be Orton, Mick Foley, Johnny Nitro and Chris Masters. This continues the "Evolution" concept of the big star of today, the big star of yesterday, the big star of tomorrow and the muscle man bodyguard role. (ie. Orton in the HHH role, Foley in the Ric Flair role, Nitro in the Orton role and Masters in the Batista role. Geddit??)

The only thing is, I really don't think Foley quite fits in to the Evolution mould. Can you see him in the business suit get-up?? I just can't think of another veteran who was once a big star (the star of yesterday, if you weell) in the WWE at the moment.

Any better suggestions than Foley? Maybe bring somebody back in to the WWE who is not currently under contract? Hows about DDP in the "veteran" role? Or even Flair again, just to retain another member of the original crew for authenticity?

I hated Evolution. Why? Because I associate Evolution with the boring era of WWE from 2002-2005. They failed to interest me, and everytime it was the same story over and over again.

That's probably why I hated Triple H a lot, haha. Ever since Evolution died, and now that he's back in DX-mode, I'm starting to like him a lot again.

I kinda agree with Pullmyfinger. I'm not too keen on Evolution coz I associate it with the Triple H era where he was in the same feud with everyone and kept winning the title.

However, they did some stuff really good, especially the Batista / Triple H build up, and the Wrestlemania 20 build up. Also I really liked it around October 2004 I think when the roster would keep joining together against Evolution. (Remember, when they tried to make Maven a main eventer?)
