I'd say it's a step down, actually. The intro sounds like bland shitty R&B, and I think the guitarwork is even more generic the before. This could have been done by any "metal" alternative act this listened to anything in the 90s.

Toss on the processing of the vocals, the white R&B bullshit, and the clichéd chorus and bridge(s), and this is just another shitty song to slit your wrists to, if you're still alive after fallout boy and Alkaline Trio.
