Return of the Hitman?

During tonight's broadcast of Sports Byline, a popular sports talk show hosted by Ron Barr in America, Bret Hart made some very shocking comments that will be of interest to his fans everywhere.

While discussing the current scene in pro wrestling, Bret Hart said he was open to "one last run" in the wrestling business. Whether or not this means he would make that run in the WWE or NWA-TNA, it certainly is great to hear nonetheless.

The interview came across very much like he has already made a personal decision to make a comeback, and most people are speculating that his initial return could come in the form of an appearance at either WrestleMania XX or Backlash in April.

Bret did say however, that he is hoping to get back in the ring and be medically cleared to do so by July at the earliest, which is amazing news for Bret Hart fans everywhere.

Until we receive more word on a possible comeback bid by "The Hitman", we are going to look at this recent development strictly as an "unconfirmed rumor".

Depends what kind of state he is in, recovering from his stroke and all.

If he can get back to ring condition then that would be amazing. But like I said, I'm not gonna believe it untill I see it

That would rule so much.

If iti happens, and it is WWE, it better be at Wrestlemania. I'll be here at school for Backlash, not home. No PPV here. And I'm already staying home an extra day of spring break to watch Mania. It took some convincing of the parents too. Damn it, I need a car next year.

If not, then the summer when i'm home, then it can be WWE or TNA.

i am getting carried away. i wont believe it until i see it either

As far as I can see, in no way would Bret Hart piss on his legacy. That's probally why he hasn't stepped in the ring yet, because thats precisly what he doesn't want to do.

My guess is he started talking to some doctors and they said he could compete again, if kept to a minimul, kinda like HBK when he came back. Plus, with all the talent that Bret had and I believe still has he won't make himself look like a fool. Even if Bret Hart has lost his footing in the ring(highly doubt that), with stars like Angle, Jericho, Benoit or Storm they would carry Hart to a great match, not that he needs carrying anyways! RANT. But if Hart was to not be himself then he would be fine in the ring with those guys.

Plus, the fans would go into a frenzy if he comes back out, with his black & pink tights, sparring off with Angle.

Bret did not say that. He guy is retired. HE IS RETIRED!!! Have to say things twice to wrestling fans since they usually refused to listen. He CAN NOT get medical clearance and at nearly 47 years of age and being out of a ring for 4 years, his career is OVER. Oh yeah, THE MAN HAD A FREAKING STROKE!!! How many people have strokes and come back to businesses where you get beaten up?

you can say that till you're blue in the face, but people will read something from an unreliable source, and then assume its true, despite what you may say. Its annoying, but its the way it is.

To everyone else, believe me, if there was a remote chance Bret could wrestle again Rob would be the first to hear and post about, I might be second. So until that happens, calm down.

In a day in age where wrestler's come back from broken necks (Angle, twice, Holly, Beniot, Scotty to Hotty, Rhyno, Austin and soon Edge) and screwed up backs (HBK), parasailing accidents (Brutus Beefcake) among other nasty injuries, is it out of the relm of possibility for someone to come back from a stroke? I'm not saying he will, nor will i read into this to much, but if he was to once again wrestle again it would be the greatest moment in wrestling history IMO. I would be happy to see him in a role like Austin or being a manager though. Just seeing him being part of wrestling again would be sweet.

A broken neck is not the same thing as a stroke. The fact that Angle was able to wrestle with a broken neck should be an indication...

Unless, of course, you've seen someone wrestle during a stroke...

I don't think it's out of the question that Bret will return to the world of wrestling, however, he's never going to actually wrestle again, that's certain.

That being said, I think it would be great (and not all that impossible) if sometime soon Bret showed up to manage/coach/train Benoit to WMXX, and not even accompany him to the ring but watch the match from ringside.

I only see him coming back to the WWE in a non-wrestling form, to put over some guy verbally or something like that. As nervous as we all were during Angle's WM XIX match (remember how we freaked out with every bump he took due to his neck), we'd be about 1000 times more paranoid if Bret ever stepped into the ring... to wrestle.

As much as I'd love to see another math from him, I'd rather him keep his health and plyay it safe rather than risk a severe injury. Only if there's like a 99.99% chance that he WON'T get hurt... then let him wrestle.

I was just merely comparing major injuries. With the medical technology we are making with people coming back and competing after having neck surgery, is it out of the relm of possibility, that with new medical advances that someone who had a stroke couldn't make a comeback to wrestling? I'm not saying he will, but at some point their will be someone who is the first.

It's always a possibility because some idiot wrestler will think of a pay day and want to come back and there will always be some quack who calls himself a doctor who will sign release papers but the chances of this happening is extremely minimal.

Bret Hart doesn't need a pay day and Bret Hart certainly isn't an idiot.

You know, if Bret's alive in 50 years, and still in decent shape, the medical technology might exist.

The "realm of possibility" is such that only some people who break their necks can come back. Angle, as an example, was not parylised.

You're comparing one form of severe injury with another form of severe injury...One which can have a more "minor" form, the other which cannot. A minor stroke is still severely debilitating. A broken neck doesn't necessarily cause nerve damage.

On the other hand, ask Chris Reeves how he's recovering? His recovery is actually AMAZING, as he has regained more than most paralised people ever will. With his money, he's still gonna be largely immobile for LIFE.

Not to sound cold to his condition, but how's that for medical technology?

Science has made leaps and bounds, but not to that level yet. I'm totally confident that progress will be made, but I doubt Bret's lifetime will ever totally "cure" his condition.

The reason people buy this srot of thing is that they don't want to believe it's really over for the Hitman. Basically, they desperately WANT Bret to be able to come back, so they'll harp over any rumour, any possible statement.

...And ignore the fact that Bret returing would inevitably be an in-ring fatality.

I'm pessimistic in the sense that if I'm too pessimistic good things won't happen.

Would he return to WWE after what happened last time between him and Vince?

Ok, I have a different thought to pose here...

Suspend all disbeleif for a second and suppose that one week from now a doctor develops a miracle serum that completely heals a person from the effects of a stroke and being kicked in the head by a lumbering oaf. ( ) Bret is completely healed and able to wrestle.

The question is: would not that make WMXX one of the most watched PPVs in years?

Hardcore Legend has done some stupid things
What i can't understand is why people are only looking at it from a medical point of view ?? Personally i'm a huge fan of Bret & always have been, from when we first got sky tv in the UK & he beat Mr Perfect for the IC title @ Summerslam thru the infamous screwjob in 97 right up until he finished in WCW.

There is no doubt the sound of his music & the sight of him in the ring would bring back some wonderful memories of an outstanding & illustrious career, but every superstar has a limited amount of time in the spotlight, once there time is up they should retire gracegully (as Bret did). There's nothing worse than a boxer who's 40 + years of age with a huge gut throwing tired punches in the ring when 10 years before he was in his prime & had people on the edge of there seats. Before i get flamed i'm not saying Bret doesn't have one good match left in him, i'm not saying he wouldn't be in any shape to have '1 last run' i'm saying we've seen the very best of Bret 'Hitman' Hart & enjoyed every last second of it, lets just enjoy his classic matches & enjoy the memories.

I don't want to see him piss on his legacy (which he would be doing if he signed a contract with WWE) i don't want to see him make a fool of himself & i don't want to see him at anything less than his best. Yeah the thought of him wrestling the best of todays talent (especially Jericho & Benoit) is awesome but it just wouldn't be the same. I admire him for retiring with dignity & sticking to his word & despite the fact i'm gutted it's all over i hope it stays that way.

In my eyes he'll always be 'the best there is, the best there was & the best there ever will be' & he doesn't have to risk his health or his legacy to prove it.

I doubt it. The number of people who will watch Mania probably wouldn't change from now to mid March. Bret working the show with 6 weeks of build up would probably add about 50,000 to 100,000 buys to the show tops right now. The audience who remember Bret is gone now in majority and it's time to rebuild the fanbase.

Because we WANT him to come back, but don't want to see him get himself killed. The medical aspect is a VERY important one.
