Best NCAA Conferences

I'm bored, so I thought I'd do something stupid. This is what I think.

Overall (All sports, but with more emphasis on the major sports)
1. Big Ten
2. Southeastern Conference
3. Big 12
4. Atlantic Coast Conference
5. Pacific 10
6. Big East
7. Conference USA

Football
1. Big Ten - So many good teams
2. Southeastern Conference - Like Big Ten, just not as good
3. Big 12 - Very good teams, but North has been weak lately
4. Atlantic Coast Conference - Some great teams, but too many average ones
5. Pacific 10 - Almost better than ACC, but neither are as powerful as top three
6. Big East - Just not much here at all

Basketball
1. Atlantic Coast Conference - Just great
2. Big East - Somehow amazing last year
3. Big 12 - Down last year, but many, many good teams
4. Pacific 10 - Almost forgot them, but Washington, Arizona, UCLA, are all great, and USC gets OJ Mayo
5. Big Ten - Not enough power on the top after Illinois, who is weak this year
6. Southeastern Conference - A weird basketball conference, but some good teams: Florida, LSU, Tennessee last year

Yes. Pac-10 has four ranked teams to ACC's three right now. ACC has two good teams per division, Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech and Clemson. Besides that, they aren't anything very special. Duke, Wake Forest, CMON.

ASU is good too.

Neither of them come even close to the SEC or Big Ten, but it is rediculous to imply that the ACC is a football powerhouse conference because Miami and Florida State are in there.

Do you even watch the games? Yeah Pac10 had more ranked teams coming in, so what? That doesn't mean they have better football. Who really gives a fuck about preseason football rankings anyway? Cal came in at #9 and got stomped by a team that went 5-6 last season. The ACC is a better league than the Pac 10, I always that was pretty much a given.

USC is the only really good team from the Pac10, with Oregon and Cal being alright. ACC "only has" 2 good teams per divison is not true, but even if it was it'd still be better than the Pac 10 since Miami, Va Tech, Clemson and FSU > USC and uh, Cal.

yeah ACC has Duke but Pac10 has Stanford, so even that is a wash. Plus you can point out how "ASU is good" or how UCLA is good sometimes, but if wanna say that, then the samethings about teams in the ACC like BC and Georgia Tech.

Give me any of the "only 4 good teams from the ACC" and put them up againest any team outside of USC and its a win. Not saying those teams can't beat USC, but I wouldn't be so sure of what the outcome would be, USC is pretty legit.

I know why you are saying this though, since you've already admitted to not like east coast football for some reason, even though Miami and FSU just put on probably the sickest defensive performance you are gonna see all season.

And where is anyone saying they are as tough as the SEC or Big 10? I dont think anyone is, top to bottom those leagues are ridiculous. The top teams from the ACC can play with the top teams from the Big10, SEC etc though, much like how the top team (USC) from the Pac 10 can do the same

"Almost as good as the ACC" It's not, the talent in the Pac 10 isn't as close to the talent in the ACC. Take away USC and the Pac 10 is pretty much the Big East.

The Big East was great last year, and will generally have a lot of good teams in the conference, but I think the ACC is hands down the best basketball conference. The Big East has a lot of good teams, but the ACC always has at least two great teams. Between Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Maryland, NC State, Georgia Tech, West Virginia is in there too right? Just year in and year out they have a lot of very powerful teams.

West Virgina is only the best football team in the Big East right now, makes sense that you would be ranking the best conferences in football than forgetting which conference one of the top 10 teams in the nation was in.

The only reason that West Vagina is in the top 10 is because they will likely go undefeated. The Big East is awful, especially now that Louisville lost its best player. I don't know what point you are trying to make.

If you were going to make a point there, it would have been about basketball, the sport being discussed. I still think the ACC is a better basketball conference than the Big East, but it is an arguable topic.

As for football, I still stand that the ACC is overall better than the Pac-10, but after the top three or four teams it is a completely average conference compared to Big Ten, SEC and even Big 12.

I just re-read this, and either you are drunk or else you just didn't get your point across. Are you trying to say that the Big East is a better football conference than No. 6? Because the Big Ten has the top ranked team, the SEC has four top-10 teams, the Big 12 has a top-10 team, one is Independent, and the Pac-10 and the ACC each have one. That puts all of the conferences at about even, but it doesn't mean that the Big East is equal to the Big Ten because they both have only one top-10 team.

The Big Ten is a powerhouse. There is a reason every team will go to a bowl.

Every team has the talent to be i nthe top 25, but they beat each other up, giving the bottom teams a bad record, but they are still better than most teams.

I will take any Big Ten team over any Pac 10 team (Sans USC) any day of the week.

The SEC is the same, very solid teams, but not as good as the Big Ten.

ACC Will always own basketball though.

I don't know if I would take Indiana over Arizona State or Illinois over UCLA, but I get your point.

Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, Penn State and Wisconsin could all be top 25 teams, Michigan State, Minnesota and Purdue are all better than most bottom half teams, and Northwestern, Indiana and Illinois are probably better than the Baylor, Duke, Temple type teams that lurk in other conferences cellars.

BCWWF are you serious? The remark about not knowing what conference WVU was because you claim to be able to rank all the conferences, yet you do not know who is in what conferences. I don't see how that makes me the drunk one, when you cleary miss an obvious point.

I still don't see what the Big 12, Big 10, or SEC have to do with the differences between the ACC and Pac 10. I am not saying that the ACC is more more impressive than those conferences (because the ACC is not) yet you continue to bring it up. I just thought it was ridiculous that you said the ACC is "barely" better than the Pac 10 - which is not the case at all. You then backed it up by saying how the Pac 10 had 2 top 10 ranked teams in a PRESEASON AP Football poll. You're claim that the ACC is barely better than the Pac 10 in football is even more ridiculous now seeing that you thought WVU was in the ACC, if that was the case the ACC would be miles ahead of the Pac 10.

Only reason West Virgina is in the top 10 is becaue they might go undefeated in a weaker conference? Riiight, has nothing to do White and Slaton coming back for their sophomore years after tearing it up as true freshman...

Ask Georgia if West Virgina is any good

My forgetting that West Virginia is in the Big East didn't change any of the rankings I posted before.

What this keeps coming back to is the Pac-10 vs. ACC in football debate. I have stated my case, that both conferences have three or four great teams, but the rest of each conference in pretty average. We both think the ACC is overall more competitive, but I think that the two are pretty close.

4. Miami
5. Oregon
6. California
7. Arizona State
8. Boston College
9. Georgia Tech
10. UCLA
11. Clemson
12. Oregon State
13. Washington State
14. Virginia
15. Wake Forest
16. Washington
17. Maryland
18. NC State
19. North Carolina
20. Arizona
21. Stanford
22. Duke

ACC: 1, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, 16, 20, 21
Pac-10: 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 22

Based on that, not an exact science, but from my rankings of teams the Pac-10 is very close to the ACC from top to bottom. You can make your own list, but don't try to throw out that my only argument this far has been the preseason AP poll. Come on.
