Val Venis should be a main eventer by now

It is my opinion that WWE dropped the ball worse with Val Venis, than with anyone else.

Was going through some tapeswatching some of his old intercontinental matches from the attitude era, and I completly forgot what a great wrestler he was.

And whether he was Val Venis, Sean Moreley of the PTC, or Chief Morely, he was always great on the mic.

Some of you may say he never broke the Venis stigma. Well that is incorrect. He was so great as Chief Morley, and playing the heel, people really forgot about Val Venis. I know that after a while, me and my friends didn't look at him like that anymore. They had a chance after his "Chief" gimmick to really push him as Sean Morely, but they just stuck him as Val Venis again. I don't think he can break the stigma of the character twice so it looks as if he is forever doomed to be the next Lance Storm.

He was good in PTC. I think he has potential, but he is just missing that special "X-Factor" that makes a star.

While somewhat decent at the Chief Morley role it just never drew the heat you'd think it would've gotten. Maybe perhaps because the stigma was never really broken? I don't know, aside from the Venis role, he just didn't have anything that stood out and screamed 'big money'.

It's all malarky, tho. Why does he need to drop this alleged "stigma"? Just tone it down -- as they already have -- and run with him. Keep the name, just make him heel. His greatest dream has been to be heel WWE champion...why not give a loyal man an honest chance?

What they could do to him is to move him to SmackDown or ECW. Either one of those two would be a good place to get a new start for him as another gimmick or a new run as Val. On SmackDown he could start by going after the US Title, or get into a Tag Team or something like that (something the WWE needs right now). On ECW he could be a heel and go after some of the ECW originals, and/or have a feud with Tommy Dreamer, or be another person that Heyman brings to his stable to "protect" the Big Show.

But getting him off of RAW is key if they want to do anything new with him.

I thought he was pretty decent recently when he was tagteaming with Big Vis, but they sort of blew that off. I think Val Venis, Viscera and Charlie Haas (with a few cameos every so often by the Godfather?) could easily make for an entertaining mini-stable. Venis and Viscera can easily handle the mic work, which can help get interest peaked in Charlie while getting Val and Vis back into the spotlight.

WWE has dropped with ball FAR worse with other people that with Val Venis. I was always a fan of his, but I always believe that he never had that main event charisma, and he wouldn't have been any more effective in a more prominent role than he was as IC Champion.

Val Venis, in my honest opinion, is the most underrated guy the WWE has right now. Simon Dean used to give him a good, honest run for his money, but with him gone, Val takes the cake. Watch Heat this week. Val Venis makes that match. Kenny holds his own in it, but Viscera and (I don't like saying this) Mikey would have lost the crowd if it hadn't been for Venis there being the good sport that he is.

I personally believe Sean Morley is a "lifer" in the WWE. You never hear a bad word about him, Jim Ross has stated "he never has a bad match", and he's the go-to guy when they need to see if someone has what it takes. Once his in-ring career is done, I can very easily see him becomming a road agent, or even a manager or something. It's a shame, because he has so much potential.

For one, the guy sells like a maniac. Seriously, his back bumps are always fun to watch. Plus the guy will do anything. He took a splash from the top of a steel cage from Rikishi. People say he needs to lose the gimmick. I think the gimmick needs to be PUSHED! Why the Hell are there more Divas running around than ever before, yet Venis isn't banging one of them? Seriously, have him start banging Melina in 8 Inch, starring MNM's Melina, and then have Johnny Nitro get pissed, attack Val, easy IC Title feud. Hell, have Venis win the title when Melina trips up Nitro "accidentally" so the guy who made her "primal scream" needs a little assistance.

I still think they could safely put the WWE Championship on Val Venis. Just requires a little booking: Val Venis gets title shot randomly, probably next time the WWE is in his "hometown" of Las Vegas, and they can do the "RAW Roulette" thing. Edge takes him time with Venis, Val fights back, goes for The Money Shot, is crotched on the top rope. Venis starts battling back, and shoves Edge off. Lita gets on the apron. Venis is crotched again, but the referee is still watching Lita as the guy Edge is feuding with (let's say Carlito), nails Edge, which allows Venis to recover, hit The Money Shot and pick up the WWE Championship!

I don't think he'd make an immediate credible Champion, but the shock might get enough people to tune in the next week. Venis isn't exactly small, so new fans will buy it, and those that know him probably have a general like for him, or they would be slightly interested to see what happens the following week.

Have Venis come out to the ring in a pimped-out suit, cut a promo about how he is only the fourth World Wrestling Federation Grand Slam Champion of all-time, right behind Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Chris Jericho. Then have Carlito come out, and request a title shot. Venis says no, says something to Carlito in Spanish, to insult him, them have Venis play a chickenshit Honky Tonk Man-like heel. Venis as a HTM Champion would work, because Venis is arguably deserving.

It would also draw comparisons to JBL's reign, and we all know how the WWE likes to repeat history.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but aren't RVD, Eddie and Kurt all Grand Slam Champions considering they've held the WWE title, the Intercontinental title, the European title and the Tag Team titles? So wouldn't that make Val Venis the 6th Grand Slam Champion?

Venis could have been as credible a champ as anyone. Keep the Val Venis name, just make him a complete badass. Have him change the old ass porn star purple attire, get some real trunks and a real entrance them, and bring back Bischoff as his manager, or even someone else. HAve him beat some stars clean, and no one would question it.

That's why I said WWF Grand Slam Champion. It's the retro Grand Slam Title (WWE, IC, Euro, World Tag Team). Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero and JBL are all WWE Grand Slam Champions in my book, but neither Kurt nor Eddie held the World Tag Team Championship and JBL was never Intercontinental Champion.

Rob Van Dam is debatable. I don't consider him a former European Champion. The WWE doesn't, either. His matches with Jeff Hardy were title unification in the sense that the winner's Championship would be recognised, and the loser's retired. The other kind of unification is when two Championships become a new one. In kayfabe terms, this is what happened to the North American, South American and whatever Championships when they became the Intercontinental Championship (I do believe the tournament to unify all these Championships was fictional, though). Chris Jericho winning the WWE Championship and WCW Championship and making them the WWE Undisputed Championship is another example of this unification. The WWE has seemingly forgotten that Jericho created a new Championship out of his title belts, as they just recognise it as the WWE Championship now. That is their right, I guess. One could argue that the WCW Championship was always going to take a back seat to the WWE Championship, as The Alliance lost the invasion, so if ever the titles were unified, and no matter how much prestige was added to the belts because of it, only the WWE Championship would be recognised.

I think they should give the World Heavyweight Championship the WCW Title history. It would make the belt more interesting. They could also give the WWE Tag Team Titles the WCW Tag Title history. Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit take over from The Dudley Boyz, I believe.

That brings me to the unification angles run during the Invasion era. Edge and The Dudley Boyz held the titles they retired, which seemingly contradicts what I just said about Rob Van Dam not being considering a European Champion. When Edge was both IC and US Champions, and when The Dudley Boyz held both the World and WCW Tag Titles, they didn't know which belt was going to be retired, it all depended on the main event. Their WCW recognised Championships became defunct the second the WWE won the "Winner Takes All" main event.

It's kind of odd, though. If you did count Rob Van Dam as a Grand Slam Champion, all the WWF Grand Slam Champions have three initials which they can be recognised from: HBK, HHH, Y2J and RVD.

Yeah, I never understood why Venis never got pushed. He is the exact guy McMahon likes to push. He is a big guy, he can wrestle a good match with anyone, might not be great, but good, he can cut an entertaining promo any day of the week, and loyal to a fault. Why they never pushed him is beyond me.

The guy chose WWE over WCW, even though Turner offered him more money. Just a little tidbit from these forums' Val Venis mark.

Also, being a Scrubs mark, am I the only one who would love to see Sean Morley do an appearance on Scrubs as a surgeon? I can just imagine Morley being the mentor to The Todd. "Hello Ladies! Heh, heh, heh." "In your endo."

He'd need the WWE Title though. And Kurt and Eddie don't count considering they won the SmackDown! version of the tag titles, not the ones on Raw that have the lineage linked to the what the Grand Slam consisted of.

I think he deserves a lot more then he has now, he can cut a decent promo and wrestle a good match as people have already said. Whilst maybe not a push to the Main event scene, i'd like to see him involved with the IC Title scene again.

I still laugh my ass off whenever I think of the match he had with Shelton (w/Momma "Big Momma" Benjamin @ ringside), or should I say the backstage segment, when Momma found out Venis was a porn star...her reaction was priceless, and I think it's ridiculous they cut her out of the storylines as soon as they did...but maybe there was a good reason they let her go that we're not supposed to know about...

It just frustrates me that they make no effort to use him, what-so-ever. You'd think they'd at least let him referee useless Diva matches.

Toronto is close to Val Venis' hometown, you'd think they'd have him on the card in some fashion. Stick him with Super Crazy, and have them team against Chris Masters and Rob Conway (they pretty much have the same gimmick anyway). Give Venis and Crazy the win, and there you go, you have yourself a pretty decent opener for the show. Or have him play the mentor role to a Superstar for a while. Why not Harry Smith?

It's not so much the level Val Venis is at that bothers me, it's that he barely gets to work within said level. Venis should at least get to win a match on RAW occasionally, or cut a promo to remind us he is a porn star. You'd think with the WWE going all "edgy" again, they'd go this route. Venis would make the perfect new member to DX. That would at least get him to mid-card level overnight.

I really think they should add Val Venis vs. Rob Conway, Val Venis vs. Chris Masters or Val Venis vs. Shelton Benjamin to the card. Smart fans tend to like him (when the WWE went to England, there were "Let's Go Morley" chants), so I think Canada will eat him up, especially if they announce him as being from there. Give Venis the win with the Venis Flytrap (Reverse Figure Four) and have him cut a promo about how he's sick and tired of being overlooked. It has no chance of happening, but you'd think the WWE would at least try it with a guy they obviously like as much as Venis.

Val Venis is a less likeable version of Al Snow.

Don't get me wrong, he seems like a good guy and all... but Al just has that likeableness about him... can't explain it.

Point is, in 10 years, he is gonna be like Al where everyone always remembers that he used to put on pretty good mid-card matches back in the day but you won't actually be able to remember any specific matches right off hand. He'll still be working backstage with WWE or something, guy everyone apreciates but never really talks alot about.

DRBailey does not have that much rep yet (10+)
Going back to an easy main-event slot, the time for that would have been to mix him up in the Edge and Matt Hardy feud over Lita, after all even if he was only tagging with Matt then it would have raised his profile...

Val Venis had the oppurtunity to reach passed the mid-card status when he was feuding with Mick Foley. Unfortunately, Foley wasn't able to put him over enough, and so the WWE seemed to give up on him.

I too think Val is underutilized in many regards. He has the charisma, look (although he sould revert back to long hair), and wrestling ability. When he came on the scene, he instantly reminded me of a breed of Rick Rude and Mr. Perfect.

Even if they gave him a mini-feud with Edge, based on the fact that Adam Copeland was engaged to Sean Morley's sister in real life. They just need to use this man. At least give the man a title shot on RAW one week.

If JBL can go from Tag Team wrestler to 9 month Champion with a gimmick change and push, so can val.

heel turn plus cheating to win matches are the most believeble ideas.

The most logical thing they can do with Venis, is to have him start banging Lita. Have them make a "movie" together, have Venis beat Edge in a non-title match, instant feud.
