Does Shawn Green suck?
You may or may not know that a year or two ago someone has put up a website on 'The Internets' that Shawn Green sucks. It seemed to me after that, that alot of people felt that since they read it on 'The Internets' that it must be true.
The site is gone now, too bad, because perhaps it could be used to prove or disprove this theory. I shall take the side of the case that says Shawn Green does not suck. I invite you people here to debate this topic with me. I shall start my case, with some simple numbers. From there, we'll see where this thread goes. Shawn Green does not suck because: If you look up MLB baseball's top 500 homerun hitters of all time, you find Shawn Green ranked in the top 100, 98 to be exact. his 318 HRs rank him in that position. Shawn Green is a member of quite an exclusive club. The 30-30 club, The other members of this club include players like; Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Bobby Bonds, Barry Bonds. Only 28 players have ever done this. 4 times in his career, Mr. Green drove in over 100 RBIs Hit more than 40 HRs 3 times. He has over 1000 career RBIs. He's not an all-time great, but he also most certainly does not suck.

I'm not too sure, Dave if you are saying that because of his salary, he sucks? Is that your argument?
Shawn Green has won a gold glove in his career, that too would take away from the case that his defense is poor. |

He put up his biggest numbers out in the Toronto wilderness too so people forget pretty quickly if they even realised in the first place.

He was roiding up. That's pretty obvious, Scot. I'm sorry that all the blood in your body is in your dick supporting your hard on for this guy and not in your brain, but it's the truth.

What?
I have simply taken a player that has gotten a notoriety for 'sucking' and decided to make a debate topic out of it. |

Personally, I always hated him when he was on the D-Backs. It just seemed we paid way too much for a guy who didn't really produce and was beyond shitty in the field. Fine, he had a gold glove in '99 but I didn't see a hint of that when he was in AZ. I wonder if Vito or Assman, who follow the Mets regularly, feel as I do.

Honestly I don't think Green has been that bad in a Mets uniform. Besides that, next season he'll be batting like 7th or 8th assuming we pick up Soriano or Carlos Lee
Reyes Beltran (I love Paulie as the #2 hitter but that would mean bumping Wright down to 6th which I can't see happening) Soriano/Lee Delgado Wright Lo Duca Then 7th will be Green most likely |

I still fail to see how $$ = shitty. I've said it before, guys that are making tons of cash are getting what they negotiated for, they and their agents are not to blame for getting all they can. Beltre and Burnett are other oft brought up.
Now that Shawn Green has productive guys around him, you'll see his #'s go up next year. Oh and 'roids? come on, the guy is pretty thin for his frame. |

Yeah sportsmen (baseball players particularly) take/took roids pretty much for one reason only and thats to bulk up, Green has never shown any of the signs of roid use.
He never hit 60 HR and batted 40 points above his career average for no apparent reason for one, and yes steroids can help in reaction times and such (for the Barry sympathisers out there) |

Well he had a lot more at bats in 98-99 than 97, and his numbers overall seemed to go up, SO's also went up at around the same rate as his HR so maybe it was just a case of him swinging away lot more. Hideki Matsui hit 18HR in his first season but he is clearly capable of hitting far more.
Meh, maybe he was taking something, but I'd be incredibly surprised if it was steroids |

Infact from 03-04 Matsui went from 16 to 31 HR with 40 less at bats and also struck out a lot more
Same thing? |

No, because Matsui had to adjust to the game here, Shawn Green was in Toronto all 3 years in question. No league switching or anything of that nature.

True, and Matsui was also already a seasoned pro I guess, Green wasn't, players take time to develope not everybody makes the kind of immediate impact that David Wright has this year. In all sports you see guys numbers go up increasingly in their early careers.
Also Green is 6ft 4, he's no small guy and so I don't see how given a decent lifting plan and work on his power game when he got to the big leagues that he couldn't reach his potential. If he'd been roiding you would have seen him literally double in size over the period of time from him hitting 16 to his career high of 49 for the Dodgers. |

He's overpaid, that doesn't mean he sucks. He should have never left Toronto, he was his most effective in the smaller marker, and he thought he was a bigshot and left. He was hitting 40 homers (I think) and 100+ RBIs and then he left. He is still productive just not as productive as he should be, he's fuckin streaky. Instead of being an all time great he is like Danny Tartable or something.
Dave, you are just one big blubbering vagina. Go get a handjob or something. |
