This was kinda discussed in the NFL thread but it could use it's own discussion..
I'm very high on:
He was the last reciever picked in the entire draft.. He might not have the numbers someone like Lawrence Maroney has, but he has made a huge impact on our offence as a Rookie.. Moreso than Reggie Bush, in some aspects.. I'm sure Roman Harper would have been having an awesome season barring the injury.. ![]() So anyway, who are some of your favorite individual players at the moment.. AFC Off Player of the Year NFC Def Player of the Year NFC Off Player of the Year NFC Def Player of the Year AFC Off Rookie of the Year AFC Def Rookie of the Year NFC Off Rookie of the Year NFC Def Rookie of the Year MVP I know most people will be "Homers" because it's only half way through the season, but let discuss.. Who Dat?? |

Not being an avid NFL follower I find that I love watching Peyton Manning play. I think he should be MVP hands down. However, if Seattle struggles for the next two weeks and Hasselbeck comes back and leads them to the post season he's got a shot at it.

AFC Off Player of the Year: Peyton Manning
AFC Def Player of the Year: Sean Merriman NFC Off Player of the Year: Donovan McNabb NFC Def Player of the Year: Julius Peppers AFC Off Rookie of the Year: Joseph Addai AFC Def Rookie of the Year: DeMeco Ryans NFC Off Rookie of the Year: Marques Colston NFC Def Rookie of the Year: Ernie Simms MVP: Drew Brees I know I'll catch slack for the MVP but, minus this past Sunday where he threw 3 picks, even though he still threw for like 380 yards with 3 TD's, he has been stellar for the Saints.. If Arron Brooks was still there we would NOT be sitting at 5-2.. I also meant to add "Coach of the Year" to this.. I'd have to say Sean Peyton.. I mean, look at what he's done with a team who as a year ago, was 3-13 and threatening to move to another state.. Lovie Smith too, I guess.. |

I'm not giving you slack for the pick, but I still pick Peyton. He's had to do more this year than any other. No defense, huge dropoff in the running game, etc. etc. But, I do see a case for Brees as well. He's been the single most important key to the Saints start. Hopefully they can keep it up.
Also... Coach Of The Year: Is there really any doubt? Sean Payton hands down. |

Not to be a negative nancy because what Sean Payton is doing is great but pre-hurricane didn't the Saints have 4 straight winning seasons? I thought I heard that somewhere.

Wait maybe they made the playoffs at 7-9 or something? So they probably made the playoffs 4 years in a row pre-Hurricane, that must have been what I heard. So yeah, while I agree Payton could very easily win the coach of the year, its not like he is taking the Texans to the promise land.
Lets wait and see if they beat the Falcons when they aren't playing in the most jacked up stadium in the history of sports too, not saying they can't but let's wait and see. So far they have beaten the Browns, Green Bay, Tampa and Philly and lost to a Steve Smithless Carolina Panthers team and 35 dropped on them by the Ravens so I dunno, I'm not hating but I'm not getting crazy either Last edited by Jesus Shuttlesworth; 11-02-2006 at 12:33 AM. |

That's the only playoff team we'v had since 1992.. Ricky Williams was the RB.. Jeff Blake was the QB, got hurt in like week 10 and "The Savior" Arron Brooks (lol) came out and had a stellar 6 weeks in a row, taking us into the playoffs.. We beat the Rams in the Wild Card game.. The Vikes beat us in the second round.. I dunno where you're getting your info.. |

I'm not getting my info from anywhere, I just can't remember exactly what I heard. Maybe they said 3 seasons of .500 better or ball or something pre-hurricane (9-7, 8-8, 8-8) The exact statement really doesn't have much to do with anything though, my point is that the Saints weren't THAT bad before Payton took over. Obviously they had a horrible record last year, but what team would be good in those coniditions? No one - I'm surprised they even won 3 games.

Yea they were without Deuce, and played like 1 home game all year or something, and before that they I believe ended all their seasons on winning streaks, that might be what you're thinking of... like they tried making playoff pushes but got laughed at, which is what got them such wonderful picks as Stallworth, Jonathan Sullivan, and like 3 DEs in the last 5 drafts.
Anyway, they may have had a good team, but Haslett was trash, despite wanting to put together a team with character guys (lol horn and bush). So I think Payton was the luckiest first-year coach, by far. He stepped into a very good position. Sure, the Vikings have a great defense (lol at least against the run), but the Saints were the most primed to make a push. UGH I hate not having sunday ticket. And the fact that I'd work every sunday anyway. Who is that Mark Anderson fellow? I think if they finallly bench Smoot, Cedric Griffin can be the ROTY for sure... Tarvaris Jackson, too. ![]() |

The year before the hurricane (season before last) we did make a late season push and won like our last 5 games but didn't make the playoffs.. The year before that, we could've gone but it all came down to that "Cresent City Connection" play against the Jags.. We scored on that miraculous play, but Carney missed the PAT to take it into overtime.. Saints curse at it's fullest..
Beans, we had NO home games last year.. Unless you count that Monday night game in NEW YORK.. That was supposed to be a "home" game.. Haslett wasn't bad.. I liked getting a new coach but it seems they shouldn't have fired Haslett because of last season with all that went on.. |

Mark Anderson was a 5th rounder by Chicago. 7.5 sacks.
