Casting for Spider-Man 3

Topher Grace is playing Venom...well not Venom, but Eddie Brock. Eddie Brock is a bigger guy than that. Topher should have been playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man the entire time. He would have been way better than Tobie McGuire.

Topher grace is that guy from the 70's show right.

I cant be fucking looking it up.If that is then thats a horrible choice.

There are trying to much to make Venom into a evil copy of Maguires spiderman (both puny looking). In the comics Brock wasnt potrayed as puny looking at all

Yeah, Topher is the guy from that 70's show. He is way more of a smart ass than Maguire. Spider-Man is a smart ass, not a emo bitch, which is what Tobey made him into.

When I grew up reading Spiderman comics I had always thought Spiderman was a bit of a witty cheeky smartass but Topher isnt more of a wussy weaselly smart ass something that Spider Man never was or can be.

If you go back to the very first Spiderman comic, Peter Parker is a weedy nerd, and I think Maguire plays that role very well.

I agree that Brock should be bigger build, but at the same time, you can't compare the original spidey to the one where Brock was brought in as it was a different era.

It's down to what Rami's vision is for this one, he's yet to go wrong thus far and from the sounds of it Venom isn't going to be the main focus of the film anyway, regadless, you can expect that Grace is going to play the character as more of a bad ass compared to Maguire, which shouldn't be hard as Parker comes across as a weak guy anyway.

I really don't know who would of been a good Brock though, you need someone young(ish) with a decent build (if you are after a guy who resembles the comic). I remember a while back people saying The Rock should of played him, now THAT would of been a bad choice IMO.

I dont know I just think that going with Grace is meaning that they are trying to make Venom just an mirror evil spiderman (not only simmilar powers but real life apperance).

I never saw Venom as that. He is his own character in his own right.

Yeah the original spiderman was during very weedy and very nerdy but the Spiderman that I grew up with (mid 90's) and the one that was around when he started becoming popular in the 80's.

Yeah, like i said it's all down to Rami's interpritation of the characters I guess.

It's documented that Sam didn't really like the Venom character anyway, so maybe he's just trying to apease himself?

Think TM is the perfect Parker/Spiderman, and to hear Stan Lee's comments about that particular casting makes the choice to be the best, period.

Maybe the reason why TG is cast for Venom, with regard to his size, so that when he is transformed/wearing the black suite, the changes he has gone through physically seem more significant since he is going to look different than TM.

But Spider-Man is not.

Even in Amazing Fantasy 15, Spider-Man 1, etc., he's still a different person when he dons the outfit.

QFT. When Spidey dawns the outfit he grows balls. Why doesn't he do this in the movie?

Oh, and I'm not even saying he should be the 80s Spider-Man out of the box, a quip a minute, but he always had bravado and humor, as opposed to becoming even more emo and mopey.

Maybe Stan Lee did envision Tobey Maguire to be Spiderman and he of all people would know best. But the Peter Parker-Spiderman that we have seen so far in the films is not the spiderman I grew up with.

I agree that hes not like the Peter Parker of the comics and tv shows, but I buy it. Hes very emo and lame at times, sometimes you just want to punch him in the face for the way he is with MJ but when he dons the suit in the films I totally buy it. I've enjoyed the films so much thus far that Maguire doesnt bother me, I just view him as a different portrayal of a character thats been portrayed so many different ways in so many different ways over the years.

I guess its the same thing as me liking Keaton and Bale equally as Wayne/Batman.

KEaton and Bale were both faithful to different aspects of the Wayne character.

This is closer to changing Othello to a white guy (WHo is ironically still concerned about racism because he married a white chick) than emphasising a different aspect of a character.

What makes Spider-Man an interesting character is that he does have real problems, and a real life. However, when he puts on the mask, he internalises the angst. Unlike many superheroes, he does have problems, and they never go away. But if he acts like a mopey kid in the costume, people won't take him seriously.
