Wrestling in the late 1990's?
Over at wzforums.com in the General Wrestling forum they have topics dedicated to indivudal years in post-kayfabe wrestling.
However, judging frome their grammar and attitudes they are teens with jaded memories. I mean no disprespect to them, but since I didn't watch hardly any wrestling in the late 90's I've based a lot of my knowledge of the era on what they've said. And quite alot of the time it was wrong. So I have a question for the knowledgeable and matured experts that have been watching both the WWF and WCW/NWA for a longtime. Could you please give me a short synopsis and review of 1997, 98, and 99 for the WWF and WCW? What was good about each promotion during those years? What was bad? Which promotion was better in each year? Why did the television ratings skyrocket in 1998 for both promotions? Which promotion had the better storylines and angles? Which promotion had the best talent? Why wasn't Steve Austin a huge draw before Wrestlemania 14? Between Goldberg and Austin who drew the most in 1998? Sorry for asking so many questions |

WCW 98 - Main Fued is Sting/Hogan, which is WCW v. nWo, however the wildcard in here was Randy Savage, Who was in the nWo, but basically was a outcast, because he was the outcast of the group. Sting won the Title at Starcade 97, but it was later vacanted due to the decesion, Hogan officially won the match, but Nick Patrick used a Fast Count, Bret Hart comes out, KO's Patrick, Re starts the match, Hogan get's the Scorpion Deathlock, Submission Victory Also, At Souled Out, Nash breaks The Giant (Big Show's Neck) with a botched Jacknife Powerbomb, which for awhile causes the Jacknife to be banned, They fued for awhile Meanwhile, the U.S Title Fued was a Three Way, Between Beniot, DDP and Raven,, DDP Was the Champion since Starcade 97, The Finally Lost the title to Raven at Spring Stampede 98. Back To Sting, Sting finally wins the Title at Superbrawl v. Hogan when Savage hits Hogan with a can of spraypaint, Officially was still in he nWo, but was siding with Sting, Anyways, that stated a Savage/Hogan Fued. Anyways, Scott Hall won the World War 2 60 Battle Royal, So he got to face Sting next, Sting defeated Hall. Hogan and Savage fought in a cage match at the same PPV, Sting descended from the rafters to help Savage, but Savage then turned on Sting. This started a Savage/Sting Fued Anyways, while this was happening, The nWo was breaking apart, Savage was a outcast still until Kevin Nash sided with him. While All This, Goldberg is still in the middle of Squashing Random Jobbers Anyways, Hogan and Roddy Piper begin having a fued, which resulted in a bat match, Blah, :Nash and Giant end they're fued, and Savage and Sting fight for the belt, Savage beats Sting after a Nash Powerbomb. The Next Night, Hogan wins the Belt from Savage after Bret Hart cost Savage the match, Anyways, Also that Night, Raven's One Night U.S Title Reign ends at the hands of Bill Goldberg... I'll continune this later, but for the most part, here are ppv results from the the 3 months I posted WWF Royal Rumble 98 ( I can't remember it much, I was more into WCW at the time) L.O.D returns to win a Tag Team Battle Royal The Rock retains the I.C Title v. Ken Shamrock after Shamrock kept attacking the rock after Shamrock originally won. Shawn Michaels defeats undertaker in a Casket Match, Kane then set the Casket on Fire. Stone Cold wins the Royal Rumble Soul Out. Some Lucha Libre 8 Man Tag Match Jericho defeats Rey Mysterio for the C.W Title Beniot defeats Raven Booker T defeats Rick Martel Bret Hart defeats Ric Flair Nash defeats The Giant I beleive the Main Event was a Hogan/Savage v. Luger/Sting Tag Match But I'm not sure No Way Out. I just know Kane defeated Vader Superbrawl The Steiner Disband and lose the the Outside (Scott Steiner becomes Big Papa Pump the next night) Juventud Guerrera loses his mask to Chris Jericho DDP defeats Chris Beniot Goldberg defeats Brad Armstrong Sting defeats Hogan.. That's all I remember for that ppv Wrestlemania 14 Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie (Terry Funk) defeat The New Age Outlaws in a Dumpster Match. HHH defeats Owen Hart Taka Michinoku defeats Agulia (Essa Rios) Undertaker defeats Kane Austin defeats Shawn Michaels...May Be More Matches on the card, I can't remember Anyways, I'll be back soon, to perheps post more if I can remember, of course, I may have to look up somemore |
