Personally, Dell has never done me wrong. My fiancée and I both have Dells and they both work great. My best friend had a Toshiba that shit the bed, and then his girlfriend had an HP...that shit the bed.

The only problem I've ever had with my Dell was when I dropped it ont he floor and had to get a new hard drive. THe warranty was still in effect and they sent me a brand new one and all I had to do was send the old one back to them in the container they gave me.

I will look into Dell then, thanks and what not. Still open for other suggestions.

I will also vouch for Dell. I've never had a problem in the past 6 or 7 years I've had mine. Using it right now as a matter of fact

Only problem is that the cooling fan is going to hell, but everything is working just fine.

HPs Business series of notebooks are awesome, their "Home" branded ones suck. IBM and Toshiba are excellent too. Worth spending as much money as you can afford on it. If you need any tips I can give you a hand, just give me a PM.

Dells are Rubbish. I've been working in IT too long to deal with crap (sorry vc )

Had a Toshiba laptop for 5 years, loved it and didn't have any major problems.

Well, yeah I did. I had to send it in 2 times for service. Both for cooling/fan issues and the cd drive laser.

Don't get Dell. I have it and I've done everything I could and it's still the slowest fucking thing which is why I usually use my regular computer. I've done everything to try and get rid of the virus or whatever. It sucks.

Are you kidding me? Dell is like the worst computer on the market.

I have an IBM Thinkpad and I love it. It's my second one, they have never given me an ounce of trouble. The Thinkpad might not have a pimp design like some other laptops but it is a great computer.

Yeah, IBM definately makes the most robust laptops on the market, besides the toshiba toughbooks, but they are mad expensive and heavy.

We switched to IBM laptops about 6 months ago, loving them.

Why is it everyone else, but me has a bad experience with a Dell? There are three Dells in my house (two laptops and a desktop) and I've NEVER had a major malfunction with any of them.

The only things that ever happen to any of the computers are viruses, spyware, and the like. Wierd

Currently have a IBM Laptop ( T42) and its great! I've heard great stories about Toshiba and Dell too. Any of those 3 i would personally recommend with strong consideration for the IBM

Yeah, it pretty much depends on what you want to use it for ( work, school, games, etc). IBM laptops ar good for everything except for games since they are not as powerful in regards to specs as other laptops. But IBM are definately the most durable and reliable from what I'v seen!

I think if you're gonna buy a computer this late in the game, you should at least go dual core.

How easy is it to build your own? Where do you get all the bits from and does it save you that much?

it's prob not that easy to build a laptop if you've never done any PC work before. Lots of screws.
