Pan's Labyrinth
I can't be the only one to have seen this.

It was good, but I dunno...I had built it up for myself into a huge fantasy epic and it really wasn't at all, it was far more compare/contrast. It was great at what it did, looked great and everything, but it felt a little slow and I honestly thought they didn't give enough time over to the underworld stuff. The ending struck me as a little cliche also but meh.

I'd still recommend it as a viewing experience (whatever that means) but try not to have any expectations if you do go.

Yes. It does.

It's about a little girl in a wartorn Spain that finds a way into a fairytale like world.

Just keep in mind that it's in Spanish with subtitles. I'm guessing that's a turnoff for some.

It was good but there wasn't enough "underworld" / Labrinth stuff for my liking.

I know two people who have seen it and I trust them and they say this is truly a great film that I would particularly enjoy.

Really wanna see but I doubt I'll be able to. In a theater anyways. The theater I work at isn't getting it, but one that is is too fucking far away. I'll try to download it or something.

Saw it. Excellent movie, I highly reccomend it. One thing I will say is that its not what you may think its going to be. It's not exactly a lot of Labyrinth or too much fantasy content. Nonetheless, its a tremendous film. Go see it if you like good movies.

I enjoyed it. The trailer had me a bit misled, if you are looking for a real fantasy driven story then this is not what you're going to get. I thought this movie was going to be more heavy in the fantasy aspect and it wasn't. Don't get me wrong though, the movie was still a fantastic story.

I thought it was done well.

Very entertaining. Also a plus to understand the movie without having to read the text although the text kept catching my eye.

Fantastic film. I would have liked a bit more of the fantasy elements. Seems like the story was split about 65-35 in favour of the "real world" story.

Really great movie. Got me a little teary to be honest. I also agree with Blitz's statement above. Most of the movie took place on the real world side. I'll grab this when it hits DVD.

Saw this about three weeks ago in my Cinema class at USC. Fantastic film. A true gothic fairy tale, and very adult (that's how fairy tales really used to be, frankly... gory and blunt).

Then we had Guillermo del Toro after the movie to answer questions with our professor (Leonard Maltin). That guy is fucking hilarious. He looks like a Mexican Peter Jackson and has a great sense of humor and is comes across as a "one of the boys" character. Wasn't afraid to liberally employ four letter words and discuss his ideas and thoughts about the movie.

I really want to see this also, but it isn't coming out in theaters here.. Gotta wait for the DVD..

Absolutely amazing flick. Way more brutal than I thought it was going to be. The makeup effects were fantastic. The Captain was one of the most despicable bad guys I've seen onscreen in a long time.

Interesting note about the effects: I think most people will agree that this film uses CGI extremely well in that the CGI doesn't make itself obvious. Del Toro's explanation of this was very logical: he makes everything as real as possible and then uses CGI as a tool to clean and brush things up. Many directors use CGI as a crutch, but Del Toro wanted to keep things real where possible. As such, the satyr was actually mostly physical. They made the goat leg prosthetics and had the actor puppetteer them himself. His real legs were painted green and were then painted out, while the goat legs remained. The result is something that looks quite real.

Funny story number two: he literally hired a kid he met working at a Blockbuster to help do some of the cheaper special effects stuff (i.e. painting out green screen stuff to blend into the scenes) because anyone can do it, and using fresh grads is a win-win. Director spends less money; kid gets the thrill of working on a major motion picture. And it cuts down costs.

BTW, apparently, this is a "sister film" to Del Toro's earlier movie, Devil's Backbone, so if you liked this one, you should like that one too. So I hear. I would like to watch it sometime.

I saw it last night, pretty good show. I wasn't blown away at the time or anything, even though I really enjoyed it, but then certain images vaguely haunted my dreams and I noticed my thoughts going back to it at times which is a sign it really got inside my mind.

Excellent story. The Captain really is an absolute bastard.
