Monday Night Wars DVD....

I just bought a copy off E-bay, and i can't wait to see it. From the sounds of it, it is very well done without bashing WCW to much. It will be nice to remember when wrestle was at it's best, when i couldn't wait for monday night to come. Ahhh, the good ol' days. Has anyone picked it up yet? If so how did you like it? Thoughts.. Comments....

I'm going to get it at some point, there are a bunch of DVDs I want to get, but I'm just waiting for them all to come out so I can order them all at once.

We'll see, I've heard its not too pro-WWE as well, but in terms of matches it seems really weak. I mean there are only 4 matches listed, seems like there should be a lot more. However, at the same time, Goldberg-Hogan from the Georgia Dome was one of the top 3 or 4 matches from the Monday night wars, so it would be good to have that match on DVD.

Just seems like this should have been a multi disc set.

Yeah, but with that DVD, I would buy it more for the story and interviews then for the matches. I've got all those matches on tape anyway.

I just finished watching it a few minutes ago. It isn't too biased like I was expecting, but it does focus a bit more on the WWE. Of course at the beginning it covers a lot of WCW stuff like the formation of the nWo, but after that they pretty much jump ship and keep showing how the WWE was starting to become stronger etc. There is some WCW bashing and a LOT of Russo bashing, but both of those were to be expected.

It's funny how in a lot of the significant moments they show (Hogan joining nWo, Foley winning the title on Raw, etc) someone in the crowd can be seen wearing an ECW shirt or holding and ECW sign. Just something I noticed and laughed at. I also find it strange that they can still use the old block style WWF logo, but they must blur out the newer scribbly WWF logo.

Anyway, I too was hoping for more of the matches to be shown. In fact I expected a lot of things to be shown differently. They didn't show any of Shane on Nitro or the last WCW match. They showed the set and fireworks around it, then they showed Flair and Sting shaking hands, but that was it. I think the Shane speech was in the extras though. There was no mention of some pretty big things in WCW like the nWo Wolfpack. Like I said, it was pretty much the nWo thing, then it was mostly WWE from there. They mentioned Goldberg for a bit, but didn't really go very far into it.

It was all summed up nicely for us by Mr. Gerald Brisco (sp?) right before it went off he says something along the lines of "the lesson that was learned through all of this is don't mess with Vince Mcmahon."

After it's all said and done it was a decent watch, I enjoyed it. They even showed just enough of the good ol' WCW cruiserweights to make me miss a good cruiserweight match.

I guess Brisco never heard of Jamie Kellner. If his name wasn't mentioned, then its not much in terms of accuracy. And did they mention that WCW won the first head to head rating battle, long before Scott Hall showed up on TV?

I dont know if the Wolfpac is all that important in the grand scheme of things. Well, actually, the finger poke of doom was a key moment, and I guess that was the Wolfpac, so that should have been in there, but aside form that the Wolfpac as a group was nothing important.

I still think they needed more matches, I mean I'll probably wind up buying it, but at the same time it would be nice to get some of these matches on DVD.

Nope, no mention of Jamie Kellner. They talked a little about ratings before Scott Hall. They gave the story behind Luger showing up at the first Nitro, then went into saying how Nitro wanted to start earlier and give away Raw results. The general idea they tried to get across was that the WWE didn't care about ratings, they only wanted to better themselves. It was Bischoff and WCW that were all about ratings. Of course, Vince never did anything wrong. They didn't do much specific bashing of WCW, but it still was pretty biased. It actually seems to favor Steve Austin more than it does anything else.

I guess the Wolfpac seemed more significant to me than it really was. All my friends were into it huge so it was all I heard about for several weeks. I don't really know how it did as far as ratings were concerned.

Actually, Eric Bischoff mentions Jamie Kellner when he mentions how he tried to buy WCW. As for the DVD as a whole, it's as unbiased as you can get for it being made by WWE. As mentioned earlier, the only pro-WWE person interviewed is Gerald Brisco, who really ticked me off with his one-sided, and at times inaccurate comments. Mick Foley and Shawn Michaels were the most impartial, especially Michaels. The only other thing I didn't like was Vince McMahon and the then-WWF painted as innocent victims during the war. On the other hand, I do agree with what Flair said in that WCW shouldn't have spent so much time talking about their competition.
