The Future of The WWE

Last night I popped in a video, "The Best of 2001", and while watching I realized how much wrestling has changed in 5 years. I watched the Benoit/Jericho rumble ladder match, it was amazing, Taker/HHH WM17 Match, again amazing. Next up was Angle/Shane-o-Mac, from KOTR, and I thought, holy shit, after Vinny is gone, who will run the company? If its Shane, does anyone believe it will get better ot worse, discuss.

lol, anyway Stephanie and Triple H will run the company. Stephanie will run it into the ground and Trips will simply follow.

Thanks Dave for clearing that right up, but the question stil stands what do you think would happen if Shane took over the company after Vince.

Shane isn't going to take over the company, so this is sort of an odd question. As it stand right now, should Vince McMahon die tomorrow, believe it or not Triple H is the man in line to take over. Having said that, IF Shane'O takes over I would think the product would get slightly better for about a year, and then it would turn into a shitfest the likes of which has never been seen before.

My views to your 3 questions:

-yes wrestling has changed a lot in the past 5 years, and gotten MUCH worse.

-The company will be co-run by Shane, Stephanie and HHH.

-If Shane gets his way, it will get better. If HHH and Steph do, it will probably get worse. Though I dont see how it can get any worse than it is now.

- I wish I had your best of 2001 tape. I actually wish i had a complete dvd set of all PPVs, Raws and Smackdowns from WWF fall 97-fall 00. Then I could watch that all in order and pretend its happening live.

I disagree, Vince has made his fans and the world familiar with his children. Whether or not they can handle the company, that remains to be seen. But based on some of the decisions Vince has made I dont think that Shane and Stephanie are too incompetent to keep a HUGE company going

I never thought the WWE would get so bad that even I would stop watching, but amazingly it has. Its like they have deliberately done everything in their power to kill my interest. I feel like people i know who stopped watching before me just stopped watching because it wasn't 'cool' anymore, but i'm a hardcore wrestling fan and they've practically killed that part of me. Its just so predictable, so boring. you can't tell me they've run out of ideas cause look at what TNA are doing, atleast the crowd isn't dead for their shows.

The difference between now and the past in the WWE is the fact that now its so obvious as to what will happen, but in the past they atleast attempted to create excitement/unpredictability. If Shane takes over i think the company will take a new direction as he will be learning from his Dads mistakes, but aslong as things stay this way then nothing will change. The roster split sucks. Vince Mcmahon sucks. Everything needs to fucking change.

I don't see Shane running things any differently. He's too busy sucking his fathers cock backstage to notice the things going wrong. It seems only a fraction of the ECW roster have any spine to criticise anything that goes on, and let's be honest, RVD is only doing it because his bridges are burnt and contract running down. Dreamer is only ever going to be a glorified jobber in ECW, and look what happened to Heyman when he dared to object. He got made a patsy for its troubles.

On another thread, they talked about characters based on Vince's past. I get the feeling that Snitsky's catchphrase is based on Vinny's philosophy on things that go wrong in the WWE.

Circle of life. Next WWE will become a terratory...it already is starting to in slught ways. If you notice SmackDown and ECW have been staying on the north east coast for most of this year, RAW has stuck to the mid-America region...the west of America has been pretty light this year. TNA is obviously trying to win back the south-east region. In the next decade, I wouldn't be suprised to see wrestling become almost a terratory world again with RAW, SmackDown, ECW, TNA and possibly even promotions like RoH (or less likely WSX) taking over specific regions.

And by the way, I am always a big fan of fans who make claims of armchair booking. Not one of you has any idea how to run a promotion. I'm not saying I do either, but it's not just a simple game of choosing your favorite 10 stars and pushing them, I would bet that should any one of you get your hands on any promotion you would drive it to the ground faster than it's already plumeting.

I could make it more interesting than it is now. Its tough with the politics that surround it for sure, but it can be done, would be easier if Vicne hired writers who know about wrestling, its this sort of thing that leads me to think he doesn't give a shit. And then he blames Paul heyman for the ECW ppv on top of that, sorry but i've lost all respect i ever had for Vince. Not that he would care, just saying.

By no means do you need to respect Vince McMahon. I just don't like claim that you could do better. You may not like what the cook makes, but that doesn't mean that you could hop in the kitchen and make a masterpeice.

Cause when you've done something for aslong as he has it gets boring after a while.

And The One- I understand what it takes to book a wrestling show, you don't know my ideas/what i would do if given time do you? So you can't judge.

I don't agree at all. I think there's too much money involved for him to be 'bored'.

I think Vince McMahon isn't bored, he's meglomaniacally senile.

I think he's just interested in making money off the companies name/past now. By that I mean, his efforts seem to be concentrated on DVDs of the past and merchandise. No effort whatsoever goes into making the show better anymore. That's why he's sticking around, because he's making money other ways. He couldn't give a shit about the show itsself. Vince is the one living in the past here.

I've been over it a number of times. What i would do:

1) Hire writers who know stuff about wrestling, like Heyman, and let them have a certain amount of control.

2) End the roster split. This creates more feuds/less injury problems and a whole loads of other positives come with it.

3) Pay attention to midcard feuds more.

4) Let Wrestlers have some more control over their characters.

5) Stop shoving wrestlers who get booed out of the building down our throats as the top face of the company,

6) Make ECW extreme again.

7) Concentrate more on the show itsself rather than making money elsewhere.

8) Use logic but also mix it in with something unexpected/dramatic sometimes. Not just one or the other or neither which they're currently doing.

9) Give the fans a reason to watch the next show.

10) Book wrestlers how they should be booked, with some exceptions depending on how it turns out.

11) Bring the attitude feel back. Don't bullshit me about rehashing ideas being bad either, you know that's what everyone wants.

I have some more ideas i think but its late, but there you go for now.

Shane doesn't handle anything dealing with booking or writing or the development camps. It's all business and talent acquisition.

I think they're being hypocrits about calling it Sports-Entertainment when they do nothing near Sports anymore. Events like King of the Ring and Royal Rumble had more unexpected, less fictionist outcomes back then. Now it's all about telling a damn story. I think they've forgotten about giving a good match (bookers, owners; not wrestlers).

That's why I always liked WWF Jakked, the way it presented straight-up pro-wrestling matches appealed to me. I'm not saying it should be something it isn't; wrestling is fake, but every match is connected to an angle. C'mon...

Otherwise, whatever.
