Biggest Battle Royal On Raw

Thoughts on this?

Will it die as painfully as we suspect it will?

This is the way I see it panning out...

After Armageddon this Sunday, in which Cena teams with Batista against King booker and Finlay, we'll see one or two smackdown faces enter the battle royal and King Booker will win it, only to lose to cena in the main event because Umaga interferes because he wants the title for himself.

I'll give Raw a miss this week I think.

Now, when they say "biggest", do they mean "Bigger than WCW's World War 3" bigger or "This is the biggest night in the history of our sport!" bigger?

I believe they mean biggest as in the amount of guys in the ring, and technically, they'd still kinda be right, since while World War III did have 60 guys, it also had three rings.

On a side note, having just read my initial post, how much do i sound like an eight year old kid ranting about Edge and Lita?

It's still real to me dammit!

I haven't even seen RAW yet this week, so I don't even know WHY they're doing it. (My bet is no reason.)

And really, is it wise to give away a "big" battle royal so close to the Royal Rumble?

No reason other than the winner gets a shot at John Cena later in the night.

Which is why I think king Booker is winning this.

lol @ WWE trying really hard to build a fued between John Cena and Umega. Of all the people you could try to do this with, you choose Umega.

It's almost like they're trying to have TNA catch up so things can be interesting again.

True to this but it's 30 people starting at the Same Time in the ring compared to every 1:30

I'm thinking IMO they're doing this for maybe a "main event"(yeah right) for the Royal Rumble saying they(whoever wins) got screwed by Umaga (If Xero is right) and want a rematch at RR.

I've seen a 40 man battle royal, though, as won by Davey Boy Smith or Tatanka, I forget which. It was chock full of jobber, mind, as I suspect Raw will be this monday, as there are barely 30 active workers on the roster.

We'll probably get a few OVW/DSW guys in there, mind. Harry Smith finally returns???

I'm not really looking foward to it. The two hour Raw are boring enough, how bad is three hours going to be? I am curious to see who will win the battle royal though, even though he is just going to lose to Cena by show's end.

They should bring back World War 3. I miss it. Not so much for the Battle Royal, but for the way all the cruserweights would use the 3 rings in their matches earlier on. But I suppose that's a moot point for WWE.

If a SD wrestler or some other monkey comes to Raw and wins the Battle Royal, I'm pretty sure I will give it up.

Why not let some guy who's never gonna win the title, like Carlito, Masters, Jeff Hardy etc win it and then nearly beat Cena before succumbing to Supermans powers? Gives a mid-carder a rub, gives both men a possible future feud, and makes things a bit less predictable.

However, that won't happen, Umaga will win and then some shit will go on about how they can't fight til NYR and will be the pointless focus of the 3rd hour of the show.

Expect an announcement soon that Raw's 'biggest ever battle royal (TM)' will start the show.

Since I'm incredibly bored, I looked up the Raw roster. Since Cena and Umaga won't be in, there's only 25 active male wrestlers on the roster (possibly 26 since I can see the semi-active Jerry Lawler taking part).

So methinks they'll either debut someone new, let a few Smackdown or ECW guys in, or simply only have 26 guys in the match and assume no one's gonna bother counting.

Oh yeah, and I'd totally love WW3 to be brought back. I dunno why, it was a total clusterfuck but I love battle royals. You can have a Raw ring, a ECW ring, and a Smackdown ring. Plus it'd be just about the only shot half the roster would have at even being on a meaningful PPV match.

For some reason, I suspect it might be CM Punk to win it, challenge Cena, fall short, but it will be McMahon's test to see if they want to promote him from SmackDown Rejects/OVW New comers.

I didn't think of that. They'll probably big it up as Flair's last chance for another run. Cena talks about how much he respects him, and if he has to lose it, he'd want to lose it to Flair. Then Edge & Orton stop him winning, followed by Umaga doing some stupid shit with his thumbs-up.

God, I'm gonna hate Monday whatever happens.

The only reason I can see King Booker and Finlay possibly winning at Armageddon, is so they can enter this match. They'll probably lose, and show up anyway, knowing the WWE. What's more, King Booker will probably win the Battle Royal, then lose to John Cena. Even the WWE's more unpredictable booking is predictable these days.

Let's have a look at who could possibly enter from the RAW brand:

1. Carlito
2. Charlie Haas
3. Chris Masters
4. Edge
5. Eugene
6. Hacksaw Jim Duggan
7. Jeff Hardy
8. Johnny Nitro
9. JTG
10. Kenny
11. Lance Cade
12. Randy Orton
13. Ric Flair
14. Rob Conway
15. Robbie McAllister
16. Rory McAllister
17. Shad Gaspard
18. Shawn Michaels
19. Shelton Benjamin
20. Snitsky
21. Super Crazy
22. Trevor Murdoch
23. Triple H
24. Umaga
25. Val Venis
26. Victoria (I know, odd pick, but she's doing the whole crazy thing, I can see her entering just to prove she can hang with the guys)
27. Viscera

King Booker and Finlay would take the total up to 29. Hmm, maybe they'll have Jerry Lawler enter, since he's been wrestling recently and all? Another option: Bring back Nicky, Mikey and Mitch of The Spirit Squad for one last hoorah. Johnny should probably be left off-screen until he returns, just to grow his hair a bit more. This makes it an all-RAW affair.

You can go on all day suggesting potential fill-ins, so let's narrow the list down to possible winners:

1. Carlito
2. Chris Masters
3. Edge
4. Jeff Hardy
5. Johnny Nitro
6. Kenny
7. Randy Orton
8. Ric Flair
9. Shawn Michaels
10. Triple H

Carlito would just be to test the waters for a dark horse Royal Rumble winner, in my opinion. He'd likely defeat John Cena via disqualification in the main event, when Chris Masters attacks Carlito, which leads to John Cena defending Colon, and a tag match being made for the following week, or even that night: John Cena & Carlito vs. Umaga & Chris Masters. Basically this would be used to further the Carlito/Masters feud. The same would go for Chris Masters if he won the Battle Royal.

Edge, Triple H, Randy Orton, Kenny and Shawn Michaels are the same scenario. If they won the match, they'd just defeat the WWE Champion via DQ, or lose due to interference from their enemies. Out of them all, I think Kenny is actually the most likely to win the Battle Royal, and would probably job to John Cena clean, with Ric Flair potentially appearing in John Cena's corner.

Jeff Hardy and Johnny Nitro are in the same scenario as the previously mentioned names. Them winning would just be used to put over their New Year's Revolution match. I could see Johnny Nitro and Umaga reaching a deal where they agree to take out each other's opponent at NYR.

Ric Flair winning is the only potential title change I see, to be honest, which disgusts me. I'd much rather see him lose due to Kenny-ference.

If I was going to book an odd choice for winner of the Battle Royal, it'd be Rob Conway. What better match to break a losing streak with? It would test the waters for an odd Royal Rumble winner, and a heel Rumble winner, and Conway is a pretty darn good wrestler. Have him luck out in the Battle Royal, and have everyone doubt that he's got a chance at beating Cena, but then do a "reverse Shelton Benjamin scenario", and have Conway cut a promo in the back to Ric Flair, or Triple H, or someone of the such, where he basically says he's going to show the world why he is the most underrated wrestler in all of the WWE. He actually takes John Cena to the limit, even getting Jim Ross to virtually give him a blowjob on commentary. John Cena gets Conway in the STFU, and Conway doesn't tap, but rather passes out.

It'd be a sweet way to make Conway into a somewhat meaningful player, but I doubt the WWE would let it happen. I just hope John Cena turns heel in the near-future. His babyface shtick makes me sick.

They could bring in some old guys for the battle royale. I just hope there are some really good eliminations and some surprises. I remember there was a battle royale during the Alliannce days, and Raven was one of the last guys (I think it was Raven). That was cool.

Yeah, I like it when Battle Royals are fun like that. Some of my favourite examples: Billy Gunn making the Final Four in the 2001 Royal Rumble, and Nunzio making it near the end of the 2004 (I think) Royal Rumble.

Maybe they could do something different, and have 10 RAW guys, 10 SmackDown! guys and 10 ECW guys, sort of as a prelude to the Royal Rumble?

Not that I'm saying bring back Curt Hennig. Although the show couldn't stink more than it does right now...

Nah, the WWE Championship has to be firmly around Cena's waist for his match against Federline. WWE has to be expecting a lot of media to cover the match, and they'd want "WWE Champion John Cena" in there somewhere. It promotes the company, the title and the name John Cena as the franchise star.

Even though whether Cena is champion or not come January 1st is inconsequential to us wrestling fans, from a PR perspective it is very desirable for the company to have Cena holding the gold.

Actually the exact stip was they cant touch each other outside of a match until next year. (Meaning Umaga will screw Cena on the first most likely.) I think it would be interesting if Umaga won the battle royal then beat Cean for the title in the ME. Then the PPV could be about Cean chasing for the title. It'd work.

And ftr this battle royal is only taking place to try and get people to watch the first hour.

It's just another gimmick match to try to boost ratings. It's nice to see that they're gonna have 60 guys trying to get one belt, but in the end it'll be Cena winning over some upper midcard heel with little to no buildup other than the match itself.

Here's how I'd do it:

Have this be the beginning of the end of DX. We know that HHH's character has no friends when he gets the glitter of that belt in his eyes. He destroyed the strongest stable in over a decade from the inside, pegging off one guy after the next just to keep that belt for one more month. When the oppertunity arises, all of this goody goody DX crap would go right out the window.

So we have a vignette with DX backstage talking about how it's every man for himself, and if push comes to shove one will have to eliminate the other. They shake hands and agree to help each other until the finals and to eliminate people who aren't cool to start things off. To shake things up, we also see other likely candidates for the win talking backstage about the match, Umaga in particular. These will be our finalists to make the match interesting at the end.

Then, to shake things up quite a bit, we see Coach talking on the phone with Mr. McMahon. He says that the match is on, and that the special guest of honor will be in the match. The plans are in motion, and this match will be the beginning of the return to order on Raw. Subtle hints make us think that he might be talking about Umaga, but he's really refering to HHH.

Then the match. Have some good spots to keep interest up in the beginning. OUr finalists all have something to gain and nothing to lose as we end the match, giving everyone someone to root for. When HHH's back is turned, however, Shawn sees his opportunity and tosses him out. When HHH turns to see his partner, Shawn shrugs and mouths "every man for himself..." Later, Michaels gets in trouble with Rated RKO and some other heels ganging up on him. They refuse to toss him from the ring, but opt instead for an easy beat down. HHH comes to the rescue, and saves Shawn, but accidentally eliminates him in the process. (Bumping into the ropes, whatever.)

Later, the two are seen backstage where Michaels is appologizing to HHH. He says he got greedy and saw an opportunity for a quick elimination without thinking about the consequences. HHH says all is forgiven, but the look on his face says that he really wishes he could have won that match and had a chance for another championship.

Fast forward to January, Royal Rumble. The two have been friends for the most part since. We see Coachman assuring McMahon that the plan is in full motion and that he's had a word with their man before the match, who agreed to their proposition. Everything is in place for the go ahead. McMahon seems pleased. It happens again. Michaels eliminates HHH from the Rumble. HHH looks a bit peeved, but the marks assume he's still loyal to his buddy. Again, Michaels gets in trouble, but here comes HHH to make the save. Some of the heels scramble under the ropes, but it's a feint. HHH helps Michaels up just in time to clothesline him over the top rope. OUtside, the heels with HHH's help trounce poor Michaels until HHH gets tired and satisfied, leaving Michaels ringside, bloodied and broken.

The following night, HHH arrives on the ramp to thunderous boos from the marks. With him, he's got a couple of the guys who helped him from the night before. He explains how Shawn could never really be a member of DX. He was a honest, tax paying, goody goody christian. Real degenerates aren't about playing pranks while quietly abiding by the rules. He goes on to introduce guys who are real degenerates (his new cronies), and how they earned that title. These could be any current heels, being that they all have anti-social qualities.

To top things off, when Shawn comes out to mouth off to them, HHH tells him that DX may be a rag-tag group of misfits and losers, but one thing they aren't is stupid. He forgot to mention ALL of his new Degenerates. (At which time a fourth or even fifth guy appears behind Shawn and clubs him with a chair. The group swoop down on him and start a beat-down until they're satisfied again. HHH tells Shawn that there's nothing he or anyone else can do to stop his Degenerates. A new era has started on Raw, and everybody had better start watching their backs, especially Cena, who has HHH's belt, and he wants it back
