ROH Results: Final Battle 2006, Homicide vs. American Dragon

http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/....asp?aID=18212

Jimmy Rave won four-way over Christopher Daniels, Davey Richards and El Generico when Rave made Generico submit to his ankle lock half crab

Adam Pearce b Ricky Reyes. Peace & Shane Hagadorn vowed they would stop Homicide from winning the title. Reyes & Julius Smokes came out. Short match with Peace winning using a foreign object

Brent Albright & Jimmy Jacobs b B.J. Whitmer & Colt Cabana. Albright power bombed Whitmer through a table to lay him out. he gave Cabana five German suplexes and Jacobs pinned Cabana after a senton off the top rope

Mark & Jay Briscoe b Claudio Castagnoli & Chris Hero when Hero was pinned. Castagnoli said he would stay as Hero's partner, but Larry Sweeney came out as Hero's new partner and they left together. Samoa Joe than told Castagnoli to leave.

Joe challenged anyone from NOAH for the 2/16 show. He mentioned Mitsuharu Misawa, Naomichi Marufuji, KENTA and Takeshi Morishima. Nigel McGuiness came out and said he'd accept the challenge if nobody else did.

Jimmy Rave attacked McGuiness and beat him with the half crab ankle lock to set Rave up as the next title contender

Shingo & Cima & Matt Sydal b Austin Aries & Roderick Strong & Delirious when Cima pinned Deliriuos with a Karl Gotch piledriver

Homicide b Bryan Danielson in about 25:00 to win the ROH title. Pearce & Hagadorn attacked Homicide at one point and it was stopped, but the ref refused to end it on a DQ. At another point, Danielson wouldn't break on the ropes and again the ref refused to call a DQ. Danielson got his foot on the rope after a cop killa. Homicide finally won with a high low clothesline. Big post-match celebration of the title change.

Just coming to post this. Congrats to Homicide, he really deserves it. Alot of people on the ROH boards are freaking out about it.

Also, Larry Sweeney rules.

To be honest I'm a little surprised Gabe actually went through with it, he seems the type of booker to really be against the obvious result. But, AmDrag had arguably beaten his most credible challengers soundly already (Aries, Strong, Nigel, Cabana, Joe) and so he can hopefully heal up for a few months, it totally rewrites the top of the card, and hey, maybe Dragon will start touring NOAH more frequently now. All good things.

Homicide

Now, that's what I'm talking about. I honestly had no idea who was going to walk out the champion after this match, and it wouldn't have bothered me either way. That's how it should be.

Good to see Homicide finally get the duke. He deserves the ROH World Championship as much as anybody. I do like that they gave the Title to a TNA guy. Maybe the door isn't shut for another Samoa Joe reign. Fuck, maybe the door isn't shut on a Kurt Angle Title reign?

I must admit, I do think ROH could use better booking at times, and I probably would have chosen to keep the ROH World Title on Bryan Danielson for just a little bit more (I had envisioned an event where Bryan Danielson was one title defence away from beating Samoa Joe's record with the Title, but his one last title defence is against Samoa Joe), but it is good to see Homicide get what he deserves. That doesn't happen in wrestling enough.

Best of luck to ROH in the future. Their World Title actually seems like it means something, so it seems fitting to reassess the company when their World Title switches hands.

By the way, how has Brent Albright looked in ROH? I originally heard some negative reports about the guy there, but recently he's sounded like a beast. Apparently he's bulked-up, and it sounds like he came off pretty strong in the tag match. Maybe he could be a stop-gap challenger for Homicide at some point?

Danielson actually had more defenses than Joe did, passed that number in October. Also Danielson has been wrestling since the end of August with two torn tendons in his shoulder, so it's time he healed.

They're putting him (Albright) over as a bounty hunter type at the moment, he's looked pretty good after a slow start from what I understand.

The reason he's teaming with Jimmy Jacobs at the moment is that Lacey hired him to take out Whitmer - what the report in the initial post failed to mention was that he didn't just powerbomb him through a table, he Awesome Bombed him through (i.e. razor's edge over the top rope to the floor). Dragon also paid him to damage Homicide's shoulder a few weeks ago which he did using his finisher from OVW (Crowbar, I think he calls it)

I can't believe the idiots complaining on the ROH boards. Yeah, what a dumb move, give the title to one of your most over, recognizable talents.

Anyways, he has a match with Rave signed for February. Maybe Homicide & Cabana could feud again, I don' t know. I think McGuinness will probably be the guy to beat him, possibly on one of the UK shows in March.

Guys to look out for in 2007: Brent Albright, Chris Hero, Delirious, Davey Richards, & The Briscoes. The Brisocoes will own the ROH tag division in 07.

Larry Sweeney, while not a really credible upper card wrestler, is gold behind the mic, and is a great addition to the roster. They have enough workrate guys. Stick Sweeney with an up and coming heel (Hero) and you've got something. I also hope El Generico does something worthwhile. I like him alot, but I don't know where there is a spot for him at the moment to be honest.

While I understand your point, I can also see where the ROHbots are coming from. Homicide is a TNA guy, and while he can still take ROH dates, TNA could become tight-asses, like they did with Austin Aries and Roderick Strong back in the day.

One could argue that the World Championship should have guaranteed stability, although shaking things up occasionally isn't too bad. This isn't winning the belt from Xavier, though, this is winning it from Bryan fucking Danielson.

I must say, the more and more I think about it, the more and more I like this World Title change, though.

Dragon also paid him to damage Homicide's shoulder a few weeks ago which he did using his finisher from OVW (Crowbar, I think he calls it)
Sweet. Seems like the Albright eagle is taking flight. If they keep pushing him well, Albright could kick so much ass in ROH.

I expect a World Title feud for the guy at some point next year, that's if the WWE doesn't snap him up again once they realise that he can do some exciting stuff, and that even if he does model Chris Benoit, that's not exactly a fucking bad thing.

I'm sorry.

Thank God my analogy pointed out the supremacy of Bryan Danielson, or else I think I would have taken a bullet by now.

Yeah, I never understood why Xavier got the run he did with it. Given, it isn't really a big deal now, and didn't kill the company or anything, but there were better guys even back then. Daniels was the leader of the Prophecy, and should have beat Low Ki, before dropping it to Joe.

One question I've been meaning to ask (thanks for reminding me): Was Xavier really that bad? What is the story with that guy? A lot of people talk about him as a stain in ROH's history, but when I saw him facing Paul Burchill on Velocity (HA!), he looked pretty crisp.

Is it more a case of him not being bad, as him not being as good, or is there something I'm missing?

He is just very unspectacular. He wasn't that great of a wrestler, he didn't have much personality, he just sucked. I don't know how to explain it. I wouldn't have minded him so much in a lower position, but he didn't good enough imo to hold the belt. He doesn't compare to any of the other champs (Joe, Punk, Aries, Dragon, ect.)

LOL Homicide is nothing but a lowly thug in TNA but a champ in ROH. WTF

It's all about the buildup really. Cide's feud with Cabana was insane.
