I know I'm a Val Venis/Nick Dinsmore mark...

...but watch their match on Heat. Fuck, that these two may never get an opportunity in the mid-card pisses me off to no end. Val Venis has gotten shit loads of money from the WWE, I bet, but come on, he deserves a little better than being one of the most misused Superstars in modern WWE history.

For anyone who doubts the greatness of Nick Dinsmore (I could make links to Rob Conway and Doug Basham right now, but I won't), watch this match. Even whilst playing a retard, and forced into the WWE style, the guy can work a fucking match. If the WWE has a few surprise matches in store for New Year's Revolution, I hope Eugene vs. Val Venis is one of them. It could be sleeper match of the night (the only thing that would hold it back is the perceived status of its performers).

Also worth noting, Steve Madison is looking fucking awesome. One of the more impressive jobbers I've seen on WWE programming. I can remember his name, so that's something. Russell Simpson, Fred Sampson, Colt Cabana, Ace Steel and Steve Madison have been entertaining in their Heat/Velocity enhancement matches. There may be others, but these guys are the stand-out ones, in my mind. Madison hit this sweet piledriver on the knee move to Super Crazy, that actually made me mark out. I may be a dirty slut, but a jobber making me mark out isn't that easy. No, I'm not professing this guy as the future of wrestling, but he could be a solid addition to a tag team or the mid-card. Damn impressive showing.

The main event was kind of icky, but Hacksaw Jim Duggan shows quite a bit of expression in the ring. It is corny, overracted expression, but it made me respect the guy a bit more than I would if he went in there and just flagged it in for a paycheck. He's geniunely trying his best to entertain me, I can tell. Good for him.

As far as Val Venis goes, the WWE dropped the ball and he's a jobber for life. I like him but that's what it looks like his future is. Nick Dinsmore is a solid wrestler and has great workrate, the retard gimmick(as stupid as it was in the first place) only could last so long before it got old, they need to drop it or re-package him at least. As far as those other jobbers go, they're still in development so I don't know what the future is for them but I do love Colt Cobana and I respect Hacksaw and all but he should stick to being a manager these days at the most.

I think if nothing else, Venis deserves a push just for his years with the company in a shitty gimmick. Because really, I love the Val Venis deal, but it's always just been a cheap laughs gimmick that'll never go anywhere. He's jobbed to everyone, and really, he's alwayus given a lot in matches.

I mean, that's how wrestling works, right? He's paid his dues, so now he gets to spend the next ten years holding young talent down?

I think what really gets under my skin is that they don't even play the character for laughs any more. He might actually be an interesting mid-card character if he were feuding with Johnny Nitro over the Intercontinental Championship, and made movies with Melina to get under his skin.

The way it is now, the only thing porn star-y about the Val Venis character, is its alleged past.

Venis is probably a "lifer". He's proven he can play non-wrestling roles, he's got tons of wrestling knowledge, and he is their go-to guy when they have a newbie they want to look somewhat decent. I have no doubt he will be offered the position of "producer" once he decides it's time to hang up the boots.

I marked the fuck out when Val Venis made a comeback in his match against Eugene, and went after the leg. He then slapped on the Venis Flytrap (Reverse Figure Four) and I swear to God, I was more into the moment than I have been anything on WWE programming for some time. I know I'm a bigger fan of the guy than most, but even though I knew he was going to lose, it was just a perfectly crafted spot. So much credit deserves to go to Nick Dinsmore, who sold the spot perfectly. He looked like he was on the verge of tapping, even though he was going to make it to the ropes.

These two deserve a match on RAW, at the very least. If RAW looked at why SmackDown! has been so successful lately, they may cut out the random Vince McMahon appearance, and just have two wrestlers wrestle as a segment.

Now see, that would be interesting. Let me take a page out of your book and try some booking of this.

Play this angle off similar to the Punk-Kelly Kelly-Knox angle. You have Nitro as your IC champion. You have Val come back to RAW, they have a non-title match but during the match, there's some body language from Melina that shows an interest in him. Nitro notices it and is arguing with Melina and Val manages to sneak behind Nitro and get a rollup for the win. Val celebrates in the ring while you've got a pissed off Nitro storming off to the back, dragging Melina behind him.

Next week, you have some segment with Melina talking to Val Venis just about anything, just show some hints of Melina being attracted to him and then have Nitro stumble into the segment, repriminding Melina and getting into a confrontation with Val, they go nose-to-nose, Nitro decides against it and drags Melina away again and you fade the segment with Val waving goodbye to Melina with a huge smile on his face.

The week after that, Nitro has a non-title match against someone, let's say Carlito, but beforehand he's asking around backstage if anyone has seen Melina and everyone's clueless to her whereabouts. Later that evening, Nitro has his match, with Melina absent. At some point in the match, have Val come out to the stage and the action stops in the ring as Val addresses the crowd and Nitro about how he hasn't been making any films for a while but that's changed of late and tells how Nitro's going to be the first to watch the debut of his latest project that he just filmed this evening. A video shows on the Titantron, very similar to the Land of the Rising Venis one back from the Attitude era. Nitro is so gobsmacked by this that Carlito takes advantage of this and rolls up Nitro for a cheap win.

The next week, Venis is having a match with someone... let's say Kenny and towards the end, Nitro comes running out with a steel chair, nailing Venis with it, making a bloody mess of him and then getting on the mike and letting him know that at the next PPV, he's going to get revenge for embarrassing him in front of millions of people worldwide by destroying in a steel cage match. I don't see how I could make Nitro give Val a title shot for what he did, so I guess a general manager could make the match but put the title on the line.

Yeah, so that's my idea. Granted, I'm tired and I don't often try and plan storylines because I'm terrible at armchair booking, but that'll be something that would interest me.

Don't know why they don't let Venis cut his "Hello, ladies..." spiel at the start of the match anymore. It's hardly due to time restraints, being on Heat.

See, that's my point exactly. It's not even that they've got him stuck with a dead-end gimmick, but it's that they don't even give the chance for the gimmick to drive to said dead end.
