Fond memories
In the midst of all of this bitching about how bad Raw was, and how bad next week's main even will be (can we get a mod to just mesh all the threads into one?) let's take a moment to look back at when wrestling didn't suck so much. Go on and share a memory you have watching WWE programing.
Do you remember that time it didn't suck when The Undertaker beat Hulk Hogan (Survivor Series '91, not WMXX)? That remains to be one of my fav matches of all time. I just re-watched it, seeing Ric Flair walk that isle, and helping then dead man win the WWF title was awesome. Quote:

a fond memory would probably be any night from October 98-Summer 99 where I rushed to my tv.
I remember once when I was terribly sick one thursday night watching Smackdown where HHH ran a 6 match gauntlet, the Outlaws reformed and Jericho came out in Sabres gear at a Dallas event for a first blood match. The show actually made me not feel sick for 2 hours. |

everyones gonna blast this thread for living in the past and another sorry trip down memory lane, but fuck em. Memory lane rides smoother and much more scenic than the road to wrestlemania 23.

Good call FourFifty, that PPV is probably one of my favourites of all time. It was the first proper one I watched (it was on a MOVIE channel over here), and the first match - well, the amount of A-listers and future A-listers in it was amazing.
Flair was an absolute god in those days and his WWF feud with Piper was amazing. The Bret/Mountie feud never got the time it deserved. Even Dibiase vs Virgil was a pretty solid feud as well. Man, I hated Dibiase in those days. The GRAVEST CHALLENGE was built so unbelievably well, Taker completely undefeated, crushing everyone in his way, beating Hogan with an urn, resisting a chair shot from Piper like it never even occured, but still having a certain sense of frailty when it came to handling Hogans cross. Flair coming down and costing Hogan the match, the chaos in the back after with people (not on screen, only through the mouth of Gene Okerlund) running around trying to find out what was going on. Piper wading in with his opinion as he just happened to be walking by, Jack Tunney (I miss him, you know) ordering a rematch. Those were the fucking days. |

One of my favorite matches of all time was from the Royal Rumble 1991. Rockers vs. Orient Express is an awesome match, and quite underrated.

A guy who is overlooked in this day of horrible and/or midget impersonators is Jason Sensation. He only was at a few shows, but his Owen Hart especially was spot on.
Also, the Austin/DX feud going into Mania 14 was really great. |

Probably the best memory for me, as a true Jerichoholic. WWE still can't take that moment away.
And while we're at it, aside from the Mick Foley win/Stone Cold run-in in worcester MA in 98, I challenge anyone to find a bigger pop for a title win. |

In recent memory there's only three things that I can still watch over and over again and still mark out. Those would be Benoit beating HHH at WMXX, Eddie beating Brock at NWO, and RVD beating Cena at ONS2. Still get goosebumps watching those.

The WrestleMania 20 rematch at backlash for the World Championship was
also underrated. It was the same refree, it was the same arena where Michaels had screwed Bret and it was the same submission manuver. As a kid I used to really enjoy those Taker-Yokozuna battles. HBK hitting Rocky with a sweet chin music on the debut of smackdown! was awesome. Goldberg inside the elimination chamber at summerslam 2003 was cool. Angle pinning Brock at vengeance for the title was great. Lesnar superplexing Big Show on Smackdown! Austin vs Rocky-WrestleMania XIX Paul Wright aka' Big Show making his debut during the steel cage match between Austin and Vince. HBK and HHH dressing up as the McMahons. Many more...can't get enough. |

SummerSlam with Bret/Bulldog for the Intercontinental Title
Eddie beating Brock Austin getting chucked over the bridge Goldberg spearing Bret but getting "knocked out" One memory which does stick out is when Bret Hart fought against The Mountie, but Bret had apparently lost due to him being ill, he wanted to cancel the match but it was refused hence his "loss", however i was too young and dont recall the match per-se |

Triple H's return to DX in late 98 after injury. Got a title shot against The Rock that night and got screwed by Test. Then in his rematch screwed by Chyna. These 2 WWE title matches with The Rock is what made me buy HHH as a World Champion Main Eventer and is when I started hoping for it.

Paul Heyman doing the play by play for Raw when The King was out. Forgot the day, or the eqact quote, but it went like this... Someone vs Someone else, Earl Hebner was the ref.
Paul Heyman: Ring the bell! Ring the bell! Jim Ross: But he didn't tap out. Paul Heyman: That never stopped him before! |

Fond memories, yes, let's talk about this issue...
Just when I thought everything in wrestling has been done and overdone, I saw a promo for a man who I thought would take the industry to heights it has never seen. Unbeknownst to me he was a second generation wrestler, son of the dream, Goldust. His in ring style never really caught my eye, to be quite honest, but there was always something about him that drew me to him. I love his promos. He started off with an old movie quote and went from there. If it wasn't for Goldust I would have never found what is one of my favortie movies. I was recording Monday Night Raw for my sister, and watching it. After the show ended I watched his promo at least 10 times. God, the Royal Rumble would be better if they did the "Rumble Returns" every year. The first few words out of his mouth were "Winter must be cold for those who have now warm memories... Deborah Kerr, An Affair To Remember, 1957." Whenever I quote a movie (which is less often as I'd like) I like to keep the same format. But when he first came on the scene it was still orgasmic. We've seen the heroes! We've seen the villains! We've seen the blue collar faces, and the white collar heels. What was Goldust? There's no way he could have been gay, just look at Marlena. If he was a movie buff it wasn't totally clear because I have never to this day seen anyone with face paint when I go to see a movie. Not the best in the ring, I'll admit, but there was something about him that has always caught my eye. The way he walked, the way he talked, everything he did made sure I would remember and never forget the name of........ Goldust! |
