If his health holds up, Chris Webber will help the Detroit Pistons out of the East
Let me explain why and then you can give me counterpoints.
Look at the starting five with him in the lineup. PG Chauncey Billups- Easily one of the best point guards in the game. It's not about how he puts up points, dishes out assists, and has the ability to hit the big shot at anytime. But it's his ability to not turn over the ball is what makes him unique. SG Rip Hamilton- One of the hardest working players in the game. Seems to never stop on that court and that's how he makes his points. Could be one of the ultimate "hustle" players in the league. SF Tayshaun Prince- One of the best SF's in the game. Can block shots, can score, and can fast break like no other. PF- Rasheed Wallace- When Wallace came to Detroit, it was wondered if he could function with the Pistons. Now he has done all that. Can shoot the 3 which forces defenders to come out and defend him. Which leads me to Chris Webber. Webber will play the center position, which will come in handy when Detroit plays teams like Cleveland and Miami (let's be honest, we all know Miami will find a way to squeak into the playoffs if they don't go on a run). And I'll be honest, I want to meet Miami in the playoffs. I want the Pistons to go through Miami. Ok Dwayne Wade, he's good, I'll give him that. But I've never seen someone get this many calls and this many FT's like Wade does. Not even Jordan did. I'm making one comparison between the two, and that's FT's. Here's why Webber will make the Pistons so much better. When the Pistons had Ben Wallace, Wallace was not a offensive minded player. Neither is Nazr Mohammed. They sit in the post and wait for the ball. With Webber, the Pistons will be able to pull him out past 8-14 feet, and that will draw players like Wallace of the Bulls, Shaq from the Heat and Ilguaskas from Cleveland and any other big center you can think of in the East. They will have to come out and guard Webber. Which opens up the lane, for players like Billups and Hamilton and Prince can drive to the lane. This Webber thing has made the Pistons so much better, in so little time. They also have the Bench of Antonio McDyess, Dale Davis, Jason Maxiell, Flip Murray, Carlos Delfino, and soon to be Marko Jaric (he is rumored to be in a trade with the Pistons for Nazr Mohammed. A lot depends on Webber's health, but if he stays healthy (like he has looked all season) the Pistons will come out of the East. Go ahead, argue against me. For the record, I'm talking about coming out of the East, not winning the title yet. So don't bring up Duncan or Nowitski. |

Detroit is the most over-rated team in the league. Adding lazy ass Chris Webber does nothing

1. I'm not aware that Webber can play center? If so, he doesn't seem to have the qualities of an ideal center for a team like the Pistons. They need a defensive guy who can sit under there, collect boards and block some shots. Now a passing jump shooter.
2. Sheed has been kind of shaky recently. Not bad, and of course probably just a slump, but it's fair to point that out. Basically, I don't think Webber can hurt the Pistons, but I don't see him being the catalyst to winning another NBA Championship. Honestly, I don't see him being more than say the seventh man on that team. Your main point is that he will open things up for the perimeter players to go inside, but I really think that is over estimating Webber. I don't like to say he is old, because he is like 33, but he isn't young. He can play 20+ minutes per night, but he is going to be a supplemental player. I don't think he is going to change the way that other teams gameplan, but I think he will give the Pistons around 10-13 points per night off the bench, which can help them. There is no doubt that the Pistons have a solid basketball team. They have five good starters, all unselfish, and a top PG (arguably the best). I would not be surprised to see Flip Saunders take the job at U of Minnesota though, on a different subject. |

Webber would have been better off going to the Spurs

I think he could work there, but I also think the Spurs have a workable group of post players. The only guy I think he would really improve on is Bonner, and he doesn't play much to begin with. But yeah, that is more the type of team that I think Webber would fit on as well.

Sheed has been heavily bothered by a injured ankle, but I'm not making excuses for him. Webber was playing 20 minutes a game in Philly, in Detroit on nights where he stays away from foul trouble, he will play 35+ minutes.

They have NO low post presnce at all, slashing point guards still kill them, they get killed on the boards, they have no center, they get killed in the paint. |

lol the Jaric = Championships.
They need a center more than anything. Bigger teams bully the Pistons around. and Webber isn't the answer by far |

The Star Tribune yesterday had a big article about how the Pistons wanted to shed a big man: Nazr, McDyess or Dale Davis, to make room for Webber. Apparently Jaric was one option to trade for.
I would like it. |

it'd be Nazr. Dumars on Detroit radio yesterday pretty much said he ain't gonna deal McDyess, and I doubt The Wolves want Dale Davis.

I wouldn't mind Dale Davis, because he has an expiring contract, but there would probably have to be somebody else involved to make it work.

I'll bet my name that the Pistons win the title. Your Jazz vs My pistons LL. If the Jazz win the title, I will change my Randy Orton Legend killer thing to a Jazz Logo. But if the Pistons win the title, you have a Pistons logo. The logos will stay till the end of the summer. HOW ABOUT IT.

Pistons could win the title but they need Sheed to be more consistant. Its not 2004 anymore and he is getting old, but, I still think they are the most complete team in the league. The only thing that worries me is Flip Saunders. The east is easily winnable, unless the NBA wants Miami back in the finals so badly then nothing will stop them. Sometimes I think the NBA is as fixed as rasslin'!!
