Am I the only one to find it hard...

Am I the only one to find it hard to REALLY get into DVD events/matches if you weren't following the promotion at that time? I mean, sure a good match is a good match, but when I come to a match that has a heavy history and I don't know why someone's doing this or that I get (for lack of a better term) discouraged that "this could have been a great feud, but fuck if I know" or "I know (insert name) is doing this for a reason, but fuck if I know".

This is one of the reasons I find it hard to get into any promotion, I haven't really seen it.

Anyone else know what I mean?

I know exactly what you mean. A match really can't be appreciated without seeing the proper build. I think this is true for everyone.

That's one of the great things about WWE. They're montages and fued recaps are so well done that just watching those before the match can get you right into it even if you weren't following at the time. For example, I gave up in 02, and started watchign again in 03, but rewatched all the stuff and picked up on it in no time.

Other promotions don't really cater to people who are "tuning in for the first time" like they do.

I actually somehow enjoy matches more if I havn't seen the build up. I don't care as much about the characters, and instead can just watch it as a stand alone story, just the battle of the two of them. I enjoy that most.

Exactly, I am the other way. I don't need all the promos and build up crap. I love watching stuff that was done before I started watching wrestling. I missed most of the ECW era, so watching those matches are great.

Anyway, It depends on the context, the quality of the match, and the way it's called.

Not all the time, but sometimes yes.

It took me a while to really get into TNA. I knew of practically most of the guys, but didn't know the feuds, storylines, characters. I enjoyed the matches, but never really got into them. I didn't really know why these guys were fighting each other, and why that guy did a run in, and why this team hates that team. The announcers explain a little, but without the weeks or months of following everything it's hard to really get into the match.

I relaly can't get into TNA, but mostly because the matches lack effective logic and "ring psychology."

I have trouble getting into TNA for several reasons. Kane Knight hit the nail on the head with the foremoest two reasons.
The other reasons are the booking of titles, fueds and maitenence of the top spots and such. (a new guy wins the title every month and 9 times out of 10 he just jobs it and sinks off the card for a while) Theres no effective midcard either, its extremes and the secondary fueds seem just thrown together.

Another reason is production. I'm sorry, it really shouldn't matter to me but it does. Production quality of TNA makes it seem so low rate, that sometimes its hard to take it as a big deal. Which is half of what theindustry is about

I stopped watching wrestling around Mania 19, then I watched Mania 19. I still marked the fuck out for that PPV like none other.

Yea, I wouldn't find it hard in that case. You already know the characters and have invested in them on some level prior to that.
Who was on the card..Hogan, Austin, Rock, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Booker T, Kurt Angle, Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, Jericho, Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero...
Even if I hadn't watched for a few years before that, I still would have been able to get into it.
