Songs that really just take you back

There are so many songs I still love today that bring me back...back to when I was a kid, or back to high school, or even college...

Dishwalla - "Counting Blue Cars" - I guess this song takes me back to high school, though the time period is very vague. It reminds me of how much I had left to look forward to, being so young and all. Parts of it remind me of how I used to be depressed sometimes in my high school years for whatever reason.

Blessed Union of Souls - "She Likes Me For Me" - This is a happy song, and I still love it. I'd say my later high school years, and it reminds me of the fun I used to have, and the good company I managed to keep back then.

Toad the Wet Sprocket - "Walk On The Ocean" - Man, this one takes me back. I remember this song coming on when I was driving around with a girl I really liked. I was nervous as hell...but this song still reminds me of her.

Third Eye Blind - "How's It Gonna Be" - I suppose this song makes me think of the mystery of life in a way. Hear me out. It reminds me that when I was younger, I never knew what could possibly happen in the future. It reminds me that I was unprepared for actually leaving high school and leaving a lot of acquaintances and friends behind.

Young MC - "Bust A Move" - Hell yeah! The good times, and nothing else. The fun I used to have, care-free and just not giving a fuck. Mostly me pretending I was a hit with the ladies, really.

Dexter Freebish - "Leaving Town" - This song in particular reminds me of a good friend of mine, Sarah. After she finished college, she stayed in the area for a while, but ultimately decided to "leave town", so to speak. She basically returned back to her home 3 hours away, and I never saw her in person again. This song is kind of a farewell to her, everytime I hear it. I talk to her through IMs here and there, but nothing more. She recently moved to Florida, so this song has even more meaning.

That's about it. I don't know, share if you like, but I thought I would share just a few songs that take me back. There are tons more, but I didn't want to bore anyone.

This is the first song I remember loving, when I was like 7 years old. Reminds me of being a kid.

King Missile - Detachable Penis. Used to hear it on Q101 a lot when I was younger, and was astonished that they were able to play it on the radio.

Gin Blossoms - Hey Jealousy. I don't know. I've just always loved this song.

Tim McGraw - Don't Take the Girl. I used to listen to a lot of country when I was younger (my whole family did/does), and I can't help but feel like the little country music fan I used to be when I hear this song.

Man, most of the Gin Blossoms songs remind me of middle school.

"December" by Collective Soul is another song that takes me back. Love it.

Shook Me All Night Long - ACDC I moshed to this song at my prom, it wasn't a long time ago but it seems like forever since highschool.

Hotel California - The Eagles I remember hearing this all the time growing up, as my dad was an Eagles fan.

Your Tattoo - Sammy Kershaw Parents listened to alot of country and this was moms favorite

In The End - Linkin Park As much as I don't like the band now, This song is where my new love of music left country and entered the rock, hard rock, and then metal genres.

Back in 2001 (my greatest year) I was in year six, living a life of wrestling and pokemon, bands like Limp Bizkit were really popular, and I loved My Way because it was the Wrestlemania X-7 theme, I always used to wake up to 'El Capitan' by OPM

Also, Photograph by Nickelback was playing on my last school bowling sesson last year, which were amazingly cool.

All are pretty shitty songs (My Way not so much) but bring back some great memories so I dont mind hearing them at all.

Pretty much anything by Garth Brooks, Van Morrison, The Supremes, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson or any other motown for that matter is likely to bring up a lot of memories of my childhood and early adolescence definitely.

You guys are gonna laugh, but "Fantasy" by Mariah Carey, one her older songs, brings me back, too. I used to listen to pop until about 2000, where I finally got into alt rock and punk rock.

What's sad is I actually thought of this thread while driving around.

Songs that take me back:

First, I'll start with one that cannot actually remind me of anything, because I first heard it last year. But something about the song takes me back to 1996. Jiva's White Wash. And it probably reminds me of songs from the 90s, but....

The Hollobodies: Jimmy. Reminds me of summer days waiting for my Ex, with my headphones, a shitty walkman, and a Hollowbodies tape.

Warren G/Nate Dogggggg: Regulate. Sad to say it, this song turned me back on to rap. Though I like Warren's production more than his lines, the concept of a cross between melodic lyrics (That were something other than a hook) and straight rap hooked me.

Then I lost interest again, after Tupac died.

My friend and I would sit on the porch and recite the song verbatim.

David Bowie: Rebel Rebel. Used to sing it to one of my girfriends to tease her.

I can't remember who did it, but "I Swear," the song thta's played in the closing credits of "Just Friends." I didn't like it, I didn't want to hear it, but it was on the radio a lot, and at that point, I'd catch a lot of MTV (I think Regulate was getting airplay at the time). It brings me back, reminds me of my youth, yet I hate it. Oh well....

Estra Fancy: Sinnerman, Yes Sir, Self Made. After discovering this band, I spent a summer listening to them almost constantly. Sinnerman is a traditional song, turned like, punk or something. I first heard them because of this. Self MAde and Yes Sir bring me back because of an association I make with this kid who used to get really nervous and shuffly around me when I played those songs.

The Who: The Real Me. I can't listen to Quadrophenia anymore, because it takes me back to something kind of rough. But again, it takes me back.

Matchbox 20's "Real World" will always bring me back to 5th grade when I first started to get into modern music. Before that all I listened to was oldies, but around that time I started watching Vh1's Top Ten Summer Countdown and started to love bands like Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, among others. "Real World" was one of the first songs I truly ever loved.

"Only In Dreams" by Weezer takes me back to middle school.

The entire "NOW!" CD, the first one, takes me back to grade school and 5th grade. Every fucking song on that CD. I don't have it anymore. The constant nostalgia was far too much for me to bear.

"God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys takes me back to my first love. I fell for her in third grade and got rejected by her. I watched an episode of The Wonder Years where Kevin gets dumped by Winnie, and they play "God Only Knows" as he sits the long ride home on the bus. Always stuck with me. Still makes me feel all emo when I hear it.
