An overlooked debut...
This week on Heat, a wrestler by the name of "Kofi Jamaica" (or something similar) makes his debut in singles competition against Charlie Haas. I didn't read anything about this being a dark match, and even so, the WWE doesn't usually put enhancement talent over established Superstars in dark matches, anyway.
I don't know who this guy is, but I'm assuming he's Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah, who is from Kingston, Jamaica, and has received training in Chaotic Wrestling, DSW and OVW. I think I read something about him being one of the WWE's top developmental prospects. He's only a small guy, though. 6'0, 200lbs according to Obsessed With Wrestling. He may have bulked up due to allowed steroid use, or something, though. Anyway, check out Heat for this guy. People are always complaining about guys getting pushes too quickly, and not working their way up. Here is the WWE debuting a guy on Sunday Night Heat. Hopefully he doesn't turn out to be another Johnny Parisi. Who? Yeah, let's just hope Kingston makes it off Heat after working a few matches there. Pfft |

You know Alienoid, I almost admire you for giving a flying fuck about something/someone like this. I really do.
I just have three questions, and I swear I'm not trying to be a dick. Why do you care? And what makes you think of this as something legitimate? Do you just enjoy hypothesizing on this stuff and understand the business, or do you really think wrestlers and aspects like this actually have a chance of mattering? |

I've always cared more about the undercard than the main event. It hasn't just been in wrestling, either. I've always preferred the secondary characters on TV shows, the one's that don't get as much exposure. I have to reason to believe this will be legitimate. Even if they do air the match, they might just use it as a tryout match for Kingston, and then do a "losing streak" angle with Charlie Haas (because it worked so great with Rob Conway). I know that the shit I come up with will never happen, it's just fun to play around with parallel universes where politics are less relevent, and young/talented guys can move up, regardless if "creative" has anything for them or not. I think my crazy booking scenarios actually started out of a disgust that the WWE released a bunch of talented guys, and then said there was nothing for them, when there very easily could have been. A few things to keep on your mind: This guy is a cruiserweight (by quite a large bit), yet he is appearing on RAW. They very easily could have had him beat Jamie Noble on SmackDown!, or wrestle a dark match there, if it only was a tryout. I'm sure the WWE really doesn't think things through these days, but being on the RAW brand is probably a sign the WWE has some plans for him. I also read one article where the WWE just wanted to get him more seasoning before calling him up (he only made his debut in 2005), thinking he could be something beneficial to the roster. This is also a similar way to how Mr. Kennedy debuted on Velocity. Just being called up out of the blue to work an internet show, with no announcement being made. They're two completed different performers, I'm just drawing a comparison for the sake of it. |

He lost to Val Venis last week. Yes, Venis won a match. And yes, Haas actually lost to Venis. It's really funny to look at some of the guys on Heat this week (Val Venis, Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas and Nick Dinsmore), and just realise how much talent is going to waste in the WWE.
