The WWE needs to have a fucking Orton v. The Rock segment for next year's WrestleMania or something. Sort of like a Rock v. Hogan at WM 18. Can you just imagine the fucking atomosphere and how hot the crowd would be for that match. It is like a passing of the torch. Seriously, forget a HHH v. Orton, Edge v. Orton, etc. because i don't think right now that Orton has that main event spark to take the company to the next level. I think he could with this type of match-up. Him and Rock, going back and forth with moves, promos, hell even talk shows. Vince needs to tell the Rock that he will forever be in debt to him if he could do this.
If someone has already posted a thread like this, then sorry. But when The Rock came back last night, (which i fucking missed by the way fixing someone's computer ) this idea just rocked my head. Those other matches i said could be used for other main events, but their personalities are somewhat similar to me and this could really boost numbers in sales and flat out entertainment quality. There is just too much that could go RIGHT with this. Of course have The Rock job since he's not even with the company like that anymore and Orton's ball was dropped after Summerslam '04 (well actually when he dropped the IC title too soon imo). I hate to sound like one of these newbie, marked out, nut-huggers on here but im sure ONE person will agree. |

I completely agree with you.
note: Isn't WWE already forever in debt of The Rock? I would think to a certain degree they are and realize it. That's why they let him out of his contract to go to Hollywood and let him keep his name. Rock helped the company so much, almost as much as Austin. Rock and Austin are huge legends in my mind because they were the ones who kept WWE in business. Hogan can suck a dick because all he did was get plugged into the machine that made him, and he tried to take superficial credit for making WWE. Which shouldn't matter anyways because he tried to kill the goddamn thing. Sorry for that rant. But yea Johnny Vegas, it would be absolutely mint. Orton is potential in a bottle, and they had it and fucked up in 04. It could still be salvaged though, and I agree Rock may be the one to do it. note: I was reading in the new Hardcore Diaries that the Backlash 04 match between Orton/Foley is Foleys career favorite match. It surpassed Mindgames 96 to Mick, which he thought never would be topped. |

I didn't know he enjoyed that match like that. But yea, this IS what Orton needs to get to the next level. I personally think there is NO ONE else that can do it. Hogan can't because he's already done one of those (not that it was passing the torch b/c Rock was already the shit), HHH can't do it because smarks know he and Orton are cool and it was just be an HBK/HHH European title thing all over..people wouldn't buy it as much, Edge no, Cena v. Orton would be a great draw AFTER the match i want with The Rock....there is NO ONE else that can do it. SCSA can't do it because he's back and forth and imo isn't really DRAW material right now unless full-time in the WWE, and we know that UT or Flair can't do it. Please, Vince. If you want your company to run for at least ONE more decade with a comfort level, do this for me, TPWW, and all wrestling mankind.

I've wanted to see Rock vs Orton ever since this:
This is one of the few big matches left that has all the potential in the world (well, one that wouldn't stink up the ring anyway). |

Orton was the best IC champion in years.
Rock in 98, Orton in 2004 and Jericho/Benoit/Angle in 2000 are what the IC belt should be in the modern era. |

Don't forget Shelton Benjamin in 2004-2005. Not to go off topic altogether, but that was a great I-C run that shouldn't be overlooked.
I'd like to see Shawn Michaels have a long I-C title run, and defend the belt against main event calibre opponents in feuds where the belt actually means something to the wrestlers and commentators. It's obvious they're not going to put Shawn in the longterm top title holder role on either brand (don't worry about ECW...) so why not use him to give the I-C belt a leg up back to the old days? It's only a step down for him if he lets it be. |

As for Orton vs The Rock that could main event any other PPV and co-main event any WrestleMania, in my view, with the right build up.

Well, time will tell.... I hope so, because when Orton is on form, he's one hell of an all-rounder.

The problem with putting an established main eventer as IC champion, is that it comes off as more of a slap in the face to them or their status than it comes as a push to the belt.
When HHH held it in 01 it was like, damn. Same with Jericho when he got bumped back down to the IC division. It's gotta have someone come along whos damn entertaining and rising. |

That is what i am saying. Look at the video, it was classic. Now that Randy is more comfortable in front of the camera and his mic skills have improved, it would be golden to see these two. That right there was a tease and still got me hyped up. And Orton has to go over CLEAN. No interference, no antics, no hardcore rules, none of that bullshit. If the WWE ever did this segment and fucked up the ending in some stupid ass fashion, i seriously would not give a fuck if the WWE went out of business. And i have been a fan, LOYAL fan mind you (1995, 2002...ugn).

It's a ready made fued. It books itself.
Simple as... Randy Orton is the Legend Killer Rock is a legend Both are 3rd generation superstars If the "creative" team couldn't book this fued they'd need taking around the back of the stables and shooting. Thing is (as much as I wanna see it) I'm not holding my breath for Orton v Rock. |

Not necessarily. The Rock is that nigga, but he can't get ANYBODY over. Like XL said, this is one of those fueds that is already made w/o being MADE. Rock v. Edge could be something of interest, but Orton would fit perfect. XL pretty much hit the nail with the reasons why.

WWE didn't drop the ball on Randy Orton. They just realized he sucks when he doesn't have Triple H and Ric Flair carrying him.

I used to think Randy was awesome. I remember watching Raw once, and my old man was watching it with me, and Randy was on, and my dad said "gee he's a great public speaker." I think if Orton was to do another promo now, you wouldn't say that. That run he had with IC belt was brilliant. I wish he'd kept it longer tho, and lost it to Shelton Benjamin a year later. That would have made two bonifide stars IMO. As for Orton VS The Rock. I just don't think Orton is at where he was in 2004 just yet. He really needs a decent feud (possibly with Edge), culminating @ summerslam, then maybe a feud with The Rock (or at least with HHH) leading to wrestlemania |

The Edge/Orton feud has already been done, at least once... to be honest though until I watched that video, I had forgotten all about it.

I was there the night of the Orton/Rock promo and the crowd was so hot for it. We all wanted Rock to come back and whoop Randy's ass, but we never got it. Doubt it ever will now, especially with Rock out and Orton's drop.
It's prob something like that that would bring ol' RKO back to the top. Maybe, even if they have enough problems trying to build up Carlito and all the others. |

Is it an interesting idea for a feud? Sure. Is Orton going to able to take advantage of the bump he gets? Unlikely.

Orton is also very injury prone. Wouldn't put all my chips on him to carry the WWE like Rock and Austin have.

I understand and see some of your points, people. But, realistically, what other match can be built up as legendary as this? Seriously. The WWE needs this. HHH is not going to be around forever, Michaels isn't, Austin won't, and Cena is going to have to go heel one of these days. I just think that this is the Bret/Austin type of match the WWE needs.

Which is why they need to plan this in advance. I just want someone to tell me of another way the WWE can come out of this "cruise control" type of booking. Ever since WCW went under, they have been slacking.
