Your thoughts of Batista

I don't know if this topic has been discussed in another thread, but I'm too tired to look right now.

source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Internally, Batista is being compared to Jim "Warrior" Hellwig a lot now. People inside of WWE say that he doesn't really love wrestling and simply got in because he had a great a body and was always protected & pushed. Also, he didn't have to sacrifice to get where he is compared to others.

On the other hand, Triple H is a big supporter of Batista because he saw him as his personal protege who he took from nothing and groomed him into be a major drawing card. Triple H wanted Randy Orton and Batista as the next two big stars of wrestling since he and Ric Flair could legitimately say they developed them, which was the final goal of the Evolution faction. When Batista started getting over in 2005, Triple H was obsessed with him becoming a big star because he felt creating Batista would be a major part of his final legacy in wrestling. He's very much into his legacy, particularly because he realizes from the outside, there is some question as to how he will exactly be remembered.

Batista has developed a star attitude and the feeling is he felt because he was handpicked by Triple H to be the next big star, and because he has a unique look, people feel as though that he comes off with a sense of entitlement. Things he's said in the SmackDown locker room at times plus percieved arrogance and aloofness hurt his reputation backstage.

His fight with Booker T last May hurt him badly with Vince McMahon. Several SmackDown wrestlers lost a bit of respect for him with his behavior that day, as much as for him actually losing the fight. Vince McMahon copped a major "Bill Watts attitude" about Booker beating him up in the fight. Batista was scheduled to win the World Title at SummerSlam at the time the fight took place. After the fight, Vince pulled the scheduled title change and told people that Batista wouldn't get the belt back at all. However, during the fall, Michael Hayes and Dusty Rhodes talked Vince into giving Batista a long run as the top guy on SmackDown, including winning the title, because he had drawn before. SmackDown business at the time was way down. Hayes & Rhodes saw Booker T as a comedy heel and his run wasn't working as the top star of the brand. Vince didn't completely agree with them, but he went with it and Batista would go on to win the title at the Survivor Series.

Even though from a business standpoint, Hayes & Rhodes were vindicated (ratings and attendance have since gone up), there is still trepidation with Batista. At one point after SmackDown business had turned around, the plan was for him to beat Undertaker at WrestleMania because they believed it would take him to next level of stardom. However, as of late, WWE isn't too sure about letting Batista end the Undertaker's storied WrestleMania win streak. The feeling is that if he beats him, people are going to see him as a major heel because the audience sees Taker's win streak as just about the only real thing left in professional wrestling. At the moment, the more likely scenario is Taker beating Batista, thus keeping his win streak intact, not to mention winning the title, but we won't know for sure until WrestleMania.

Charismatic big man. Nothing much to him. A decent move set. Bland to watch. A comparison to Warrior is kind of fitting, except Bats makes logical sense when he talks...however dull his time on the mic may be...

I just hate Batista. Ever since he turned face and was set to wrestle HHH at WM 21, I slowly began to stop caring about him. He's just ultra bland on the mic, his matchs are generally crap, etc.

However, I still did like him after WM 21..but since his injury, the guy hasnt been the same.

He should be mic-carding at the moment. When I watch a PPV and you have a mid-card match such as Benoit/Guerrero or Kennedy/Undertaker, I'm thinking it'll be good to watch. Then when it comes to the main event and Batista's in it, all I can think is "okay... it's just 20 minutes, let's just get it out of the way and try and enjoy it".

Booker T VS Rey Mysterio =

Booker T VS Batista =

Batista VS Mark Henry =

Minimal to no charisma. Here you have a guy involved in a match which could be a turning point in the WWE with Taker's streak possibly ending (given his age and the fact that the match is for the title) and the buildup is lame. Sure you can't place all of that on Batista, but come on, he's the champion and supposedly go to guy for a top level storyline/match. Batista is showing us more and more everyday that he'll never be anything more than a mediocre performer.

Why shouldn't Batista feel entitled? Deserving or not, he is the protegé of someone very important in wrestling. At this point, he might as well be hand-picked by God, and who gives a shit if he's not popular for it?

I'm kind of offended by Batista being compared to Warrior. Warrior is 10 times more entertaining than Bats. How dare they soil Warrior's good name, he can do that well enough without any help. Lets just break it down:

1. Promo: Warrior is the Slayer of promos. You have no idea what he is saying, but it sounds cool as hell. Then when you actually listen and try to follow along, it makes even less sense. Go on, listen to some Slayer, the lyrics don't make a lick of sense. Now listen to an old Warrior speech, he says something about lawn mowers and air planes and HULK hogan, the words are all in Engrish, but don't mean a damn thing.

Batista on the other hand sounds like any high school athlete being interview before a game. He is all like "We are going to go out there and give it 100% and show respect and um, give 100%." Then he might say something his coach said that he won't truly understand for years to come.

2. Entrance: Warrior's entrance is literally an 8 year old with ADD (or is ADHD?) on 'riods. I don't know if I would call it passion or showmanship or what, but it was/is entertaining. You can't but helped but get pumped.

Craptista on the other hand, you can hear him thinking it step by step when he comes out. "Hmmmm, walk out. Sumo stance. Pretend machine gun, jazz hands and boom!" It helps if you read that with a gay dance coach voice for full effect.

3. Actual match: Lets face it, they both suck at wrestling, but Warrior was like watching a car wreck. You knew someone was going to get hurt, but how bad was it going to be. Plus, sometimes a Warrior match would be so quick, that if you sneezed, you missed it. He brought the excitement.

Dancin' Dave's match's are just boring. There is no intensity or story telling really, and you have to have one or the other for it to be watchable. Plus, I don't like the way he sells moves.

I liked him better when reports still had him labelled as a humble guy. Since he's become arrogant, my respect has gone down.

Of course, I don't know whether he really is a prick or not, if his success has gotten into his head, and that sort of thing, since I'm not backstage or anything. But based on what I've read, I'm pretty disappointed.

It's refreshing to see that Cena hasn't seemed to have let his success go to his head. Hopefully, he stays that way.

It's also worth pointing out that wrestlers backstage have a tendency to deem someone has an attitude really easily. "We will SO not sit with him at lunch!"

That being said, if he's the pick for the top, there's not a God damned thing anyone can do about his attitude, unless he shits in Linda's bag.

but yeah, they hate Nitro for kissing a girl, they hate Punk because he thinks he's entitled after many years in the business, and they hate Bats for not sacrificing enough. Sounds like fickle playground politics, but we knew that was the case already.

Batista is horrible. He has no charisma outside the ring, his self opinion of himself is basically and this is a loose quote "I can't belive a big loser like me is getting this opprotunity, I didn't earn it but who could turn it down?". He is not too much more than a big body, before his injury he was getting better but since his return he is lazy. And since WWE's wellness policy he has shrunk in size and look like shit compared to his former self. Plus he sucks as a wrestler, really really badly.

Only thing Batista was ever good for, was as muscle for a heel stable.

I liked Bars hen he was in Evolution. Since he beat HHH for the title though, I have been not liking him. Since he returned from injury he has sucked big time.
He lost something. He seems scared to get hurt again or something.

Unfortunately, whatever he lost, be it from fear or laziness or a hissyfit for being downgraded to Smackdown, what he lost was the only thing had had going for him. He is a mediocre worker with decent charisma, but fuck all else.

I used to be big on Batista and Cena. I used to be excited.

In 11 days, Batista will headline his second WrestleMania when he defends his WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt against the Undertaker.

"My first big match at WrestleMania was in 2005 with HHH, so it's one of those things where, like, where do you go from there?" says Batista, his belt resting squarely on his shoulder. "The only place to go is the Undertaker."

Before he climbs in the ring with the Dead Man, here's what else Batista told The Detroit News last month in San Diego, Calif.

When did you know you wanted to become a professional wrestler? It was late '90s, maybe '98, I was up in Minneapolis doing some training up there, and I noticed on TV that WCW was having open tryouts. I was a big fan of Goldberg, so I watched WCW all the time, and I just thought I'd give it a try. That was my first inclination that I wanted to be a pro wrestler. It was a long time after that that I realized I might actually make it (laughs).

So what happened? I'll give you an abbreviated version of the story: After that, I spent some time trimming down because I was very heavy. I was about 370 pounds. So I trimmed down and I went for my tryout at WCW, and they kicked me right out the door said, "You'll never make it. You don't have what it takes, get out of here!" So I called the WWE, and they didn't have open tryouts, so they suggested a private school. It was the Wild Samoan Training Center, and I went there for a year and they hooked up a tryout for me. I went for a tryout with the WWE and the next day they called me and offered me a contract.

Was the back tattoo before, after or during all this? The tattoos came along with the years and training. I had a small tattoo on my back, and the big tattoo I have now on my back is what I had on my back before, it was just very small. I said I want it bigger, so they blew it up and now it's huge.

Outside of the ring, what do you like to do? When I am outside of the ring I am actually the most boring person on the face of the earth. I'm one of those guys who just sits at home and doesn't really do anything. I have a 14-year-old daughter, I spend time with her. I do stuff everybody else does: I go to the grocery store, I go to the gym, I go to the movies.

Seen any good movies lately? I saw "The Departed." It was an awesome movie.

Do you have any routines you go through before a big match? I try to get warmed up, I pop a couple of Red Bulls in me, I try and get a little energy going and just try to focus and stay relaxed.

What's the best part about being a pro wrestler? Traveling the world, and the worst part about being a wrestler is traveling the world. It's just one of those things where if I wasn't in this business I don't know what I'd be doing, I'd probably bouncing somewhere. I've experienced so much in a short period of time -- I've gotten police escorts around Thailand, I've gotten to eat with 4-star generals at the Pentagon. But I'm on the road so much that I'm missing a lot of my family life. I'm sacrificing a lot, I'm missing time watching my daughter grow up.

Does your daughter ever come on the road with you? She actually does, she comes with me a lot.

Will she be with you at WrestleMania? Definitely.

Talk about WrestleMania. What does it mean to you to be headlining the biggest event in the business? There's an energy and a feel about WrestleMania -- it's such a special event, and I can't really explain why. But there's definitely an electricity about it. Main-eventing WrestleMania -- this will be my second main event in five years with the company -- I can't even put into words how good it feels. It's like a dream come true.

Truthfully, there was a while, right before and during Evolution that I thought he could be a fantastic big man. And he was alright for a while, but instead of getting better, somehow his work rate seemed to appear more and more green...

Well, he's not in evolution anymore, so he's devolving.

You're right, though. He's gotten worse, not better.

Is it that hard to understand what Slayer's saying? Or is BDC pulling one of those "I'm from a red state, so I barely understand basic English" gimmicks.

Proud to say I never liked Batista or saw anything in him. When I heard he was a champion I was disgusted.(had stopped watching in late 04, came back in late 05)

Seriously, the guy sucks. And I hope it blows up in their face, no pun intended. If they even considered putting him over Undertaker I hope the fans riot and I hope WWE ratings go in the gutter.

It's actually nice to hear that Vince doesn't like Batista and was willing to pull him off the main event for the Booker T incident.

He's champion, main eventing wrestlemanias and getting a monster push and I still don't see anything in him. And fewer and fewer people are, in a business where a push should create the opposite effect. So is it lack of awareness, or lack of potential awarded with a guise of a push.

Dude, what the fuck? Why is everything politics with you? I understand basic Engrish, and I know what every word means in Raining Blood, but that does mean Raining Blood as a song means that much more than a Warrior promo, either of which I can listen to hours on end.
