Haven't been able to post this any earlier, I've been skiing in Austria for a week

So, did any of you Scots watch it? Were the Welsh goals any good?

I'm so glad we've ended our 7 match run without a win, and hopefully we can now get some confidence going as we head into the World Cup qualifiers. We've also got some good young boys in the squad now, which can't be a bad thing for the future. Oh, and before you Scots say you had an understrength side, we didn't have the strongest either, 10 players out. Considering the size of our squad, 10 men out is a big blow.

The problem with Scotland is that the manager doesn't give a toss how the side does, he picks up his money whether they win or not, he couldn't care less otherwise, how the hell is a German supposed to inspire the Scots? I think the Scots have got to just say, ok, let him see out his contract, and then ask Gordon Strachan to come and manage them. I don't think in 2 years time Gordon will reject that offer.

Scotland just have to find the passion they once had for the game, there was a time when they could give a good account of themselves against anyone, because they battled until the final whistle, and they wore their heart on their sleeve, it just doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

Congrats to Wales though, they are a quality side, and I really hope they do qualify for the next world cup, and I hope this appeal goes their way as well.

Vogts reveals Strachan move

Gordon Strachan plans a break from football
Scotland manager Berti Vogts has revealed that he made an approach to Gordon Strachan to be his successor.
Strachan, who left Southampton earlier this month, has rejected the chance to join the Scotland coaching staff.

But Vogts hopes to persuade him to rethink the situation after a break from the game.

"He isn't interested in football at the moment but I suggested to him if he got back at this level he could take over from me in 2006," said Vogts.

The former Aberdeen and Manchester United player is the man many of the Tartan Army want to see in charge right now following Wednesday night's 4-0 thrashing in Wales.

But Vogts' offer was to join the coaching staff after a summer hip operation with a view to taking over after the next World Cup finals.

"I will have another talk with Gordon after his operation.

"I spoke to him three or four weeks ago and he said then he only wanted to work with younger players.

"I thought that would be perfect - he could work with our under-16s, under-17s and under-19s."

Whether Vogts survives until then remains to be seen as the Scots have let in 10 goals without reply in their last two games.

A BBC Scotland poll found that 65% of football fans had no confidence in the national manager.

And the German admitted he had been contemplating heeding the flood of calls for him to step down.

He said: "Yes, I was thinking about those things and in certain moments I have doubted myself.

"But I love working here. This is not just a job for me, this is a mission.

"When I go back to Germany in 2006 I hope the house is built for the future of Scottish football.

"It's a hard job, maybe the hardest I have ever known."

I think you may be right about him not caring Sid,it's not everyday someone asks another person to replace them,at least if they're not retiring.Could have your wish about Strachan though.

I don't get how they manage to beat Holland and then loose 4-0 to Wales a few months later.

It's one of those 'good at home,poor away' things i reckon.

If they can sort out the defence then they'll be fine.

Because until the last 3 years, you've done fuck all. Scotland are always there or there abouts when it comes to qualifying.

You could also argue how the hell are Mexico 5th in the world rankings,seeing as the only decent side they can face is U.S.A,otherwise some sides in the Copa America.

So, the teams are seeded based on traditional performances? That's bloody stupid. So, if England suddenly take a dip and loose to Azerbaijan and NI, they will still be top seeds in the next major competition?

Yep.

If Wales qualify for Euro 2004 or The world cup in 2006, and Scotland don't, they might have a good chance. Also, seeing as Wales have beaten sides bigger than them, they are getting more points which contributes to everything.

So it's kind of like a snowball affect. It all adds up in the long run. We must be one of the best giant killing countries there is. In the last 2 years we have beaten Italy and Germany and drawn with Argentina and Czech Republic. If we go back to doing that, it's got to earn us something.
