You know what wrestling is missing now a days?

A really good stable. I mean one thing WWE does is rushed the break up of stables. I mean the Spirit Squad was here and gone in the blink of an eye. It would be nice if they had a real stable. Oh and not that ECW Originals v Newbreed, that is played out.

Discuss.

You know what I wanna see? A horsemen-structured stable consisting of Carlito, Nitro, and the Hardys. With Flair as a manager.

Would it be heel or face? Because then how would the hardys turn heel, and how would nitro turn face?

I actually like the originals v new breed stables tbh tho that feud is lacking something, feuds over titles mainly. But i agree, its cause of the roster split that there aren't any stables.

I was gonna post a thread about the exact same thing, then i didn't bother!

I agree though, stables have always been something for the fans to really get a hold of and follow.

A few stables with the standard tag team, mid carder and top guy would kick arse right now.

And if there is a stable everyone needs to be dressing in the same kind of gear other wise it doesn't really work. Thats what the whole ECW thing is lacking. They don't come across as "stables" it just comes across as something sloppily thrown together. I know it doesn't seem much, but look back over the past couple of decades and you will see all the stables had a "look"

It's not just one stable, but we need a few. This is what I believe led to better storylines when wrestling was popular. We had:

WWF: Corparation, Ministry of Darkness, DX, The Brood, Job Squad etc.

WCW: Filthy Animals, Revolution, Team Canada, Dark Carnival, M.I.A etc.

If you look at wrestling as a comic universe, ie Marvel, DC, there would be an unlimited combination of things you could do, matches you could book, and backstage segments you could shoot.

Week One: Team 1 VS Team 2
Week Two: Team 1 looking for Team 2, runs into Team 3.
Week Three: Team 2 solves issue with Team 3, Team 2 runs in.
Week Four: Member of Team 4 has problem with member of Team 3...

Simalar to how super heroes are always crossing paths, and how a Spider-Man villain might appear in a Daredevil comic etc.

It also gets more people on TV. Which is what the brand split was meant to do but never did. If, for example Gregory Helms is in a stable, then he can still be a part of the show, even if he isn't in a match or a major feud.

They need a big stable. Not just a crappy stable either. The New Breed and King Bookers court, and JBL's cabinet and shit were pretty mediocre. They were cool in a way, but they went nowhere fast.
There hasn't really been a good stable since Evolution. The key to a good stable is a few things. First of all the members, but beyond that:

-It has to be a cohesive unit, and they have to mesh well and have a group identity. Random clusterfucks of late, like in TNA and the medicore ones in WWE aren't stables. They're just clusterfucks.

-A good stable has to a force to be reckoned with it. Not just the members but the unit. And they have to catch on but they can only do that if they're strong. The Corporation, DX, nWo, The Ministry, The Horsemen, etc. are all stables that came in and took over. They covered themselves in gold and ran/or sought to run the promotion. After all, what's the point of forming a stable and travelling in numbers as a team if your goal isn't to help eachother take over your show and be on top? Sometimes it seems like other stables are just hanging out to hang out and be buddies, or to settle for mediocrity. It comes off as forced and a clusterfuck of losers with nothing else to do. Even Evolution, which was good but could have been better, got in good with Bischoff, captured the World, IC and Tag titles and basically ran the show. That's why they were good.

- A good stable can be content with a small niche on the show, or even on top. But a great stable is show encompassing. They range all over the card. Now, this doesn't neccessarily mean oversized because that's what dilludes a great stable. But versatile and spread with good wrestlers in their respecitve divisions all throughout to run the show.
For example: Stables like DX, or the Corporation or others had a leader and/or top main eventer. A good tag team. A uppermidcarder. A midcarder. And a bodyguard or manager, or a strong big man enforcer. An authority figure as the leader/coleader is also a plus.

Also, it makes the show seem more unified and well oiled. It flows better when a stable is involved throughout a show and they're in multiple fueds, and theres a power struggle. Like the early nWo, or the corportation other regimes.

I'd love a good stable for a change.

I love when a heel stable is in control of the show and even all or most of the titles, and they have the power. It's awesome when they come out at the beginning of the show as if to say, "welcome to our show, we're running things" They then proceed to all adress their fueds without the card and with the power they have they lay the ground work for the night.
Then on the other side you have the unified force of the superfaces who all have one thing in common, or two...they're good guys, and they hate the heel stable and all their heels.
So the power struggle is amazing.
nWo overdid this, and never let the other side be the victor. But when the faces are clearly fighting an uphill battle, but are able to and eventually do succeed, things are great.
Especially when the company knows how to evenly book it and quit while ahead.

The Corporation vs Austin, DX, Foley
w/outside brushed with The Ministry

or McMahon/Helmsley Regime vs Rock, Cactus Jack, Too Cool and Kane
w/ outside elements like The Radicals and Big Show

Those were 2 great times for television. Mainly because you had fueds and angles that all tied into eachother and one big picture that encompassed the entire show and linked the under, mid, and upper card all together, providing a rub for all involved. Loved those periods.

The Brood was good stuff. It was a midcard hit then, it gave Gangrel more of a career than he ever would have had otherwise, and it launched one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history, which would also spawn 2 huge singles stars, both of whom have worked their way up to the status of Main Event Champions.
Pretty fuckin successful.

I think William Regal and Dave Taylor would make great stable players, to be honest. They are both legitimately tough guys, with wrestling skill; Regal is great on the mic, and a brilliant background player. They started up a bit of thing with Kane, so I'd play that off with Paul Burchill returning as "The Ripper", and putting Kane on the shelf. Bring in Katie Lea, who they can play up Regal and Taylor trained, as well as maybe having Eugene join them, seeing as Regal trained him in kayfabe terms.

So the stable would look like:

Paul Burchill
Eugene Dinsmore (I'd either have him change his name to "Eugene Dinsmore" or "Nick Dinsmore", just so he seems less comedic)
William Regal
Dave Taylor
Katie Lea

Not an all-time great stable, but it's got plenty of talented guys in it, and it draws them together. Could make a fun supporting stable.

A nice little joining of all the French-Canadians would be nice, too. Rene Dupree and Sylvain Grenier can adopt Maryse Outlett as their piece of ass. Throw in their old friend, Rob Conway, and you have yourself a babyface opposition for Regal's rogues.

The New Breed could become more than what they currently are in ECW. Have them play Vince McMahon's new "hit squad". Vince did approve of them, and he does want someone to take out Lashley. Have Punk or Burke jump to RAW (Punk seems more likely, but I'd rather Burke make the move) and lead it there. Mr. Kennedy seems like a good choice for SmackDown!'s leader.

It might be good if they set up stables with "Chapters". Viewers may be able to latch onto more characters on more shows if they are associated by design with one another. Kenny Dykstra, Johnny Nitro and Melina could become a member of the New Breed's RAW Chapter. On SmackDown!, Mr. Kennedy could recruit MVP, Mike Mizanin and Jillian Hall. People may not be familiar with MVP, but they know they don't like Johnny Nitro, so because MVP is on the same side as Nitro, they know know MVP is a heel.

You understand that Henry would completely sap that stable of credibility, and as he would be built up as the top guy, it would go to hell the next time he gets injured.

That's WWE's fault for bad booking.

I'd just have Henry play the bodyguard role, get pretty much no mic time, and the least in ring time. Just have him beat the shit out of people randomly.

He's one of the few "big men" WWE has who I could see fitting into that role.

boring (IMO)
These guys don't need the rub of a stable, at least the Hardys don't. A stable could help out Nitro, and maybe carlito, but not the hardys

I still think Christian/Tomko/Trish could have been the start of an unbelievable stable, but I'm living in the past.

You know what was great? JBL, OJ and the Bashams vs Angle, Reigns, and Jindrak. It wasn't a spectacular stable war by any stretch, but it didn't try to be. It was more of a little glimmer, and it was very entertaining.

Here's my reasoning behind it. Nitro definitely needs the rub if he's going to ease properly into full-time singles wrestling. Carlito needs something to stabilize him, and his being mentored by Flair would be a good way to do that. Basically you have Flair come to the realization "hey, I've always been best with a group of guys around me, and you can be the same. (Woo!)
Now you come to the Hardys. The problem with them is that they've already reached a peak as a team that they're going to have trouble getting past. Think of where the Dudleys were shortly before they left. How many times will they be able to trade the tag titles with obviously inferior teams? They need something to get past that, and being in a stable will assist with that.
Now, the subject of whether the stable would be face or heel has been brought up. Quite simply, the best stables are heel stables. And with Flair and Carlito, who are natural heels, the decision is obvious. Carlito and Flair can turn in a non-issue, really. They're basically only faces or heels because of who they're set against. Nitro is already a heel, so no problem there. Now what about the Hardys. They already seem a bit edgier than they have been so just sharpen that. Give them a cockiness, a sort of "we've done it all, we deserve these titles" thing. They wear the belts and basically stand behind the others. With their high-flying and all, JR and Cole can call them the "missiles" of the stable; derisively saying that the others basically just throw them at opponents and that they obey that without thinking.
So what to do with them? Set them against Edge and Orton in a heel-vs-heel-for-dominance thing. Carlito wants to challenge Cena (who he beat for the US title the first time they met, mind you), but first he has to get past Rated-RKO. Carlito eventually wins a title shot from the other two when his backup overwhelms them.
Oh and btw... who DOESN'T want to see Carlito standing with the spinner belt dangling from his hand and saying "That's not cool!" before reintroducing the "real" belt?
I'm still stuck for a name for these guys though. Flair is the classic, suit-wearing, suave guy, of course. Carlito is the laid back "cool" guy, Nitro and Melin are the supposed Hollywood A-listers, and Matt and Jeff are the odd subculture wierdoes. The one thing you can say for all of them is that they likely tap a lot of ass, but somehow "Team Ass-tappers" doesn't seem right to me.
