I'm Getting Surgery on The 18th / Random Wrestling Memories

My fellow TPWW'ers.

I, KayfabeMan, poster on these forums and friend of all who do [despite our differences in opinion] would like to announce that I am getting surgerized in the next few days, on the 18th to be exact.

I will be cut open and such, and hopefully all will go well, but not being one to take anything for granted, I wanted to say 'goodbye' to my TPWW buds; should I not come back home

I have really enjoyed posting on these boards and scanning them when I've not posted. I loved being a big part of the Q&A Forums for a while, and then sharing thoughts, views, opinions, and inside information with you all when I could.

So, anyhow, to keep this wrestling related - I'd like everyone to post the first wrestling memory that comes to your mind right now. A match, promo, skit, feud, moment, item - the first random thing that comes to your mind that's wrestling related.

Hope that I'll come back home to my family, and my TPWW family too

Yeah, what kind of surgery? Anyway, going with your wishes, I always remember the first time seeing wrestling was an episode of WWF Superstars on Saturday morning...

The Genius was in the ring reading something, decked out in his full gown and what not.

I think he wrestled Hacksaw.

What kind of surgery, and I wish you the best of luck with it.

As per your wishes, my dad turned on an episode of Raw in the early 90's I think I was 4-5 years old, and I remember seeing The Undertaker. Who really scared me at the time.

For some reason I remember watching Demolition wrestle like in 90-91, but the earliest clear memory I have is sitting on my grandfather's lap for Wrestlemania VIII. I specifically remember the intermission(remember when it would say "Wrestlemania will return in 5 minutes and it would have the countdown?) and the Warrior returning at the end of the show.

I just watched the Smackdown from the Fall of 99 with HHH running the gauntlet, the reunion of the outlaws and the Jericho first blood match.

Rock and Sock in full force.
Undertaker walked out for his indefinite suspension that night.

Jeff Jarret/Chyna fued

Xpac and Kane as a tag team

One of my favorite televised wrestling shows of all time.

I wish you the best, bro. You've always came across as one of the good ones.

I remember the Dusty/LOD Spike incident in the background when I was playing in my younger days. I also remember beating up my dad when Andre beat Hogan on that one Saturday Night's Main Event. Both of these were before I became a straight up fan.

My first memory was watching it with my folks, it was the Natural Disasters against 2 jobbers and my Mum was laughing her ass off at the jobbers trying to offense in and Earthquake and Typhoon just no selling it and looking pissed off.

Other honorable mentions go to Summerslam 92 when LOD came out on the harleys me and a few friends were watching it in my front room chanting LOD alot.

Dude, you can't leave us hanging with all this potential gloom and doom and not tell us what surgery you're getting.

I've never been one to do goodbyes and such. And I don't think going in with that sort of negative attitude is good, especially in a surgery. I say that cautiously, though, because I'm not completely sure you're actually being negative (half sounds like you're being cautious; half sounds like you are worried). Attitude and mindset make a huge difference.

Anyway, that said, I certainly am not trying to come off as an ass. Definitely wish you the best with this, and I hope you can come back with some wicked photos and shit. And we can caption them Kurt Angle style...

"Kayfabe Man ate some hospital food... with a broken frickin' neck!!!"

-----------------------------------------------

Earthquake may have been the first wrestler I remember. The *BOOOOM* *BOOOOM* *BOOOOM* was fucking classic. R.I.P. John Tenta.

First solid wrestling memory was this Octoberfest thing that ended up becoming one huge foodfight. That was late 80s.

Right now I am reminded of when Rick Martel returned to pro wrestling in 1998and had a few good series of matches with Booker T over the WCW World Television Championship. Such a shame he went down with an injury so quick into his return to pro wrestling. It was still was great to see him back in action though!

Good luck with the surgery. You'll be back in no time.

Anyhow, my first memory was when I was 5 and having a voucher from the newspaper for a free WWF sticker album (1992 or '93, can't remember).

I wanted to watch wrestling after that to see what it was really like, and it just kinda grew from there.

My first, and I was pretty much hooked from it, was an SNME prior to SummerSlam '90. It featured Hogan returning from being sat on by Earthquake, Warrior vs Rick Rude, Demolition vs the Rockers, and Mr Perfect vs Tito Santana. Very good show. People have asked how to introduce someone to wrestling; that was the show to do it. Introduce the title scene, a high-level draw, the tag division, and the IC division.
It also featured Alfred Hayes and Mean Gene on safari, which was total

Hey Guys, Sorry I couldn't get back here sooner - tons of stuff I'm working on right now in preparation for being sidelined for like a month or so. I just wanted to thank every single one of you guys for not only the well-wishes, but the cool stories. Like to pick everyone's brain every now and then.

On to the surgery thing.

It has been discovered that there is some sort of intestinal thing going on that could be dangerous. The docs will be going in and hopefully taking care of said obstruction, roughly taking a 2-3 hour surgery. They've told me of all the risks, etc. but it's necessary. Hopefully all goes well.

Anyhow, going in with a good outlook on it. I trust the doctor, he's got 25 years of experience and a great record and has operated on people I know. Just not taking anything for granted is all, as shit happens - and you never can tell. Again, thanks once more for all the well-wishes and hopefully I will be back here talking about wrestling [and other shit] with you all again very soon.

Good luck KFM, hope it all goes well for you!

As for the random memory, I still remember my first house show. It was at MSG just before Mania 13. The main event was Bret vs. Sid in a steel cage.

The moment I remember most is during a Casket Match between Vader and Undertaker. I think Taker was going over to the casket to open it, then all of a sudden Mankind pops up out of the casket, puts the Mandible Claw on Taker and pulls him down, giving the win to Vader. I remember it being so awesome.

In fact, here are the results from that show.

WWF @ New York City, NY - Madison Square Garden - March 16, 1997 (8,513)

The return of the WWF to the MSG Network after 5 years; featured Jim Ross & Jim Cornette on commentary; the final card televised on the MSG Network; included Dok Hendrix conducting in-ring interviews with Ken Shamrock, Bret Hart, & WWF World Champion Psycho Sid:

The Sultan defeated Flash Funk via submission with the Camel Clutch at 7:40

Blackjack Windham & Blackjack Bradshaw defeated Henry & Phinneas Godwinn at 8:11 when Windham pinned Henry after switching places with Bradshaw

Crush pinned Aldo Montoya at 1:46 with the heart punch

Ahmed Johnson defeated Savio Vega via disqualification at 6:44 when the Nation interfered

WWF Tag Team Champions Davey Boy Smith & Owen Hart defeated Phil LaFon & Doug Furnas at around the 11-minute mark when Smith pinned Furnas after Hart tripped up the challenger as he attempted to suplex Smith into the ring

Hunter Hearst Helmsley defeated WWF IC Champion Rocky Miavia via disqualification at 12:42 when Goldust interfered

Farooq pinned Goldust at 6:20 with a piledriver; Sunny was the guest ring announcer for the bout

Vader defeated the Undertaker in a casket match at 5:09 when Mankind came out of the casket and helped in double teaming the Undertaker

Dark match which was not broadcast: WWF World Champion Psycho Sid defeated Bret Hart in a steel cage match

Good luck man dont know you too well but seen you around here before, im annoyingly confined to the house myself atm due to physical probs preventing me from living the only life that i'll ever have, so i guess i can understand what you'll be going through. And have some experience on being 'surgerized'. Nothing like your problem though.

Thanks to you guys too

I went to a house show at MSG once myself too.

Main event was Diesel and HBK vs. Men on A Mission.

On the undercard were Razor Ramon, Bret Hart, Carl Oulette, Louie Spicolli, Tatanka, HHH, 123 Kid, Rikishi, I believe Bob Holly, and a few others. Great show that night, with Hart and Oulette stealing the show with a fantastic match. Loved every minute of it, and still got my pics to show for it.

Best of luck to you.

The memory that pops into my head is my second house show ever. Got to see Kane wrestle in a red light, and the main event kicked ass. HHH and the outlaws vs Steve Austin, Terry Funk and Cactus Jack, hardcore match.

First show I ever saw live was the third In Your House PPV. It was main-evented by Diesel and Shawn Michaels winning the Tag Team Titles from Yokozuna and the British Bulldog (who was filling in for Owen Hart, who was "late" to the building).

The show opened with Savio Vega against one of my all-time favorite gone-in-a-flash characters Waylon Mercy. There was also a fantastic Bret Hart/Jean-Pierre LaFitte match on the undercard. Ted DiBiase got slopped by Henry Godwinn. Dean Douglas beat Razor Ramon (the next month, they had a rematch for the vacant IC belt).

But one of the big things I remember is that they had been advertising Lex Luger vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley for the card. Then, out of nowhere, Luger shows up on Nitro, so we wound up getting a HHH/Fatu dark match to jerk the curtain. Also got to see Goldust in a dark match against Bob Holly before his debut. Ditto for Ahmed Johnson (he was called Ahmad Williams that night), who squashed Skip. Also, the non-televised main event was Undertaker against King Mabel. This was after UT had his face crushed by Mabel, but before his return under the white mask. Apparently, something happened between that night and his return, because he wasn't wearing the mask to the best of my recollection.

Interesting memories guys Keep 'em coming.

Savio Vega was also at the MSG card I went to. Almost forgot him.

I did love Waylon Mercy as well; Spivey did a great job with that. Shame the WWF didn't give it more of a chance. It could've been cool. Yet they gave a few months to TL Hopper, The Goon, Who and The Stalker Barry Windham - collectively of course. Oy.

My memory would be ECW's pay per view, Hardcore tv in 1999. It was a chicago street fight between Dudley boyz and Balls Mahoney +Spike. Best memory because I was right behind spike dudley when he jumped off the balcony. Fucking awesome.

My first wrestling memory was watching NWA Starrcade 1990 "Collision Course", which featured the Pat O'Connor International Tag Team Tournament. In this tournamnet teams from USA, Africa, Mexico, United Kingdom, Japan, New Zealand, USSR and Canada competed against eachother to get the trophy and their flar raised at the end of the evening.

I remember as I was watching I was rooting for the members of team Mexico. I've actually just looked up this event and it turns out the Team Mexico was made up of Rey Mysterio and Konnan. Two guys that I didn't hear about until another five or six years later. The thing that's so weird about that is Mysterio was 16 years old when he competed there, which I find strange. However once Team Mexico lost to Team USA I started rooting for Team USA represented by The Steiner Brothers.

Some other notable people that were in the tournament were Col. DeKlerk from team Africa, but we all know him as Rocco Rock. Also their was Sgt. Kruger from Team Africa who would later go on to play Doink. Chris Adams and Norman Smily made up Team United Kingdom, Mr. Saito and The Great Muta made up Team Japan, Jack Victory was one half of Team New Zealand,, and there rest are guys I didn't really amount to anything.

Looking back at it that tournament had a few guys that went on to have pretty solid careers. The tournament wasn't the only thing that night either. The Rock 'n' Roll Express took on the Freebirds, Luger defended his US title against Stan "The Lariat" Hanson in a bullrope match and Doom faught to a draw with Double A and Barry Windham in a Street Fight for the Tag Team Championship. This is all not to mention Sting versus The Black Scorpion in a Cage, which is the inital reason I watched the event because I wanted to see who the Black Scorpion was.

I remembed how cool if felty watching that event with my dad and grandfather rooting for the people my dad and grandfather did, except for Team Mexico who the didn't root for. And after that night I was a Steiner Brothers and Sting mark for life. And now that I read who was really on Team Mexico I guess I can say I was the first ever Rey Mysterio mark, and I never knew it until now.

Best of luck, man. Yeah, every surgery has its risks, but you'll be fine. My dad recently underwent something like what you're going through, and he's doing fine.

The power of Conan will pull you through. You've always been one of my favourites here, just because of that avatar.

Anyway, a random memory I have is of a random SmackDown! episode. It used to air on Saturday mornings over here in Australia, and there was nothing like waking up at 7:30am and watching some blue, black and white flash across the screen as the old-school SmackDown! theme played, as "JERICHO" flashed up on the screen in the classic SmackDown! opening. Good times.

On this particular episode, William Regal and The Rock had a bit of a run-in during the show. I can't remember too much about it, but William Regal pulled an angry face that still rings in my memory. A lot of people give credit to Vince's facial expressions, but no one, and I mean no one, will ever top William motherfucking Regal's angry face.

The Rock and William Regal squared off that night, with Rocky picking up the win. I then remember Regal getting to his feet, and walking around the ring waving, as who I now assume was Jerry Lawler was saying "It doesn't matter that he lost, he's still the European Champion!" Then The Rock came back and gave Regal a Rock Bottom, or something.

I LOVE it when the WWE has lower card guys and main eventers start up programs on a show, then pay them off by the end of that same show. Another similar scenario was when Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero had a Street Fight in 2005. It was the same week as Shawn Michaels faced Shelton Benjamin in that memorable RAW match, so it kind of got overshadowed. Mysterio beat Chavo Guerrero with a springboard senton on Guerrero, who was sitting on a chair in the middle of the ring.

Best of luck KayFabe.

I started watching the Saturday morning show, but I also started renting VHSs from the local video store.
Looking back the first memory I have seems to be The Bushwhackers vs Rythm and Blues. Thinking of the house I was in, and how old I was then, I could say that I've been a wrestling fan for 20 years.
But if one wrestler could take all the credit for getting me painfully hooked (albeit I missed SmackDown tonight because I read the spoilers, it's not worth it, and that takes alot from me) it would have to be "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Something about seeing him fly halfway across the ring is just freaking awesome.
