Ghostbusters

I know this is something that won't happen, but wouldn't it be cool to see a Ghostbusters series that actually had serial-style seasons? 13-20 eps or so, with an episode scheme similar to Buffy (Establish the big bad over time, build to a big climax)?

I think it could seriously be more enjoyable than the movies. And I'm not knocking the movies when I say that. Just that there is some serious potential in my eyes.

So, have I gone Kurt Angle, or does this sound like it could work.

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

I think anything involving the Ghostbusters would work. Only problem I see is it would probably have to be a cartoon. If it was live action they'd have to obviously recast the people which would upset fans. Then the problem with a cartoon, is it would be more for kids and their short attention spans. While they could do a few multi part series (ala X-Men TAS) overall it would be a lot of one story per episode type thing.

It sounds brilliant, I think it would work if it was just a rip off of Ghostbusters (ala Heroes to X-Men) as it would keep fans inline. But at the same time, it would have to be to close to the GB franchise it would almost have to be labeled as GB.

Overall great idea, but sadly would never see it coming about. I mean just look at the success of getting GB 3 made into a movie.

You bring up a good point, and an interesting conundrum. Fans would probably shit all over it if it were recast. But that's the only feasable way to do it (Not only are Akroyd and company too old, but the budget for the cast alone would be a nightmare) without reverting to animation.

And I liked the cartoon. It's just, you know, the movies were better. Plus, there's just shit you can't do in a cartoon. had to be totally overhaurhauled for that cartoon.

Ah well. I liked the thought. For a moment, I got excited.

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but parts are being recast all over the joint. Remakes, reboots and re-interpretations are all commonplace these days. Hell, they even cast Bernie Mac (or possibly Cedric The Entertainer, I can never tell) as the big fat white guy in the remake of The Honeymooners. Point is, in two years time, the original film will be 25 years old. Fans couldn't possibly expect a Murray, Ackroyd and co. return. The next 5-10 years would be premium time to do it, as it's been long enough since the release of the movie to be considered "retro" or whatever.

Heard bout that, but that movie has been talked about for so fucking long it's not even funny. Will it probably come out? Perhaps, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

As for the recasting, yeah they do a lot of recasting in movies. But none of those movies were the Ghostbusters. You know no matter who they cast it'll be nothing like the original cast. Although I'll be honest, would be pretty funny to see the original cast all together still. With them all being really old and some (Ramis) gaining a lot of pounds.

Yes, mitch. You're telling us things alread yposted here multiple times.

The image comes from the promotional material for a video game, which will likely tie into the plot of the third movie. The rest (legal holdups haven't put it on hold, it's still in the works) isn't qite so true.

As for recasting, even the Honeymooners got shit on, and it's not a cult hit (In other words, the fans are composed entirely of obssessed fanatical fucks). We won't even go into the Crow.

If they did this, it would probably be best if they launched it with a two-hour series premiere with Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis and Hudson.

Just throwing an idea out here, but have them running something like a whole management deal, where they've expanded to the point of having one "Ghostbusters" squad in every major city. This would cut back on the problems of recasting, because A. the original New York squad would already have been replaced and B. it could focus on more than one city. So one episode they focus on New York and the next they focus on Boston.

Actually, this would probably work better as a series of movies...

You know, if they do relaunch the Ghost Busters franchise (which, by 2015 [probably earlier], they no doubt will) I hope they do it in that manner.

The series idea is great. I don't care if it's recast, as long as it's written/produced by Aykroyd and Ramis, it will probably keep the same spirit, and that's all that counts in my opinion.

No matter how it's sliced Ghostbusters is a franchise with all sorts of untapped potential. It's still got the appeal and it's following continues to pass the test of time. I've given up hopes on a live action third installment, but at this point I'd be all for a televsion series or any kind of continuation in the series.

Ripped from TV/VHS. Not great quality, but can't complain really. First 2 seasons are the good ones, after that they changed a lot of shit. Could still probably find torrent around somewhere.

There are 3 or 4 dvds that have been released, you can find them cheap at best buy or anywhere else. They're nothing special, just a few random episodes on each, but for 5 bucks a disc it's better than nothing.

I found torrents on Demonoid; I'll probably snag them once my ratio's a little better (Downloading the Closure DVD release, which is like 14 GB)

that was the prototype game Zootfly?(i think) was working on...bu they got held up in legal trouble and I believe that game got developed into something else. They still have hopes for making a GB game...however, Dan Akroyd has mentioned he is working on a GB game with a company.(not sure which one)

I also saw in an interview that he is more hopeful for the game than the CGI movie.

In part because the third movie is evidently dealing with New York getting sucked into Hell or something. Mostly because the demo used the Gears of War Engine, I'd imagine. The demo videos show a post apocalyptic deal.

Most of the "news" on this, though, is fake. Well, it's speculation that someone put up as news.

I remember there was 2 Ghostbuster cartoons, one was terrible I think that was just straight "The Ghostbusters" while the good one was the one with the characters from the movies, I'm assuming that was "The Real Ghostbusters." I was so mad when the shitty one was on.

Yeah, the other show just wasn't as good. It's funny how that shit went, though.

I remember the same network aired both here, and so they'd "swap out" the shows sometimes. Bastards. It's like what USA used to do with Voltron, except at lkeast Voltron were intended to be related (The US versions, at least).

Anyone ever see the horrible "Extreme Ghostbusters"? Was pretty diverse, including a woman and a guy in a wheel chair.

"The Ghostbusters" cartoon show that was crap was actually around before Ghostbuster movie franchise. They couldn't use the name for the tv show, thus The Real Ghostbusters, to make it clear which is the good one.

Oddly enough, there wasn't a problem until Columbia started shit legally.

Is it possible that maybe the game included the plots of the first two movies as well as an original? 2 seconds of thought brought me to that possible conclusion.

Dude, you actually put thought into it? Oh, Kano's gonna call you a nerd now.

Keep in mind, though, that the game demo footages was all using the Gears of War engine (You can even see a bug at one point). The idea was just to demonstrate things, and would have likely been worked into a completely different engine, and likely changed graphically, too. The promo poster, likely, was also just a mock-up. The original promo material evidently alluded to this (Though t was in german, and my Nazi sucks), along with common sense.

So we don't even need to get into "old plus new" to see how wrong Kano is.

And all I had to do was something as nerdish as not talk completely out of my ass to draw a conclusion.
