ROH PPV thoughts SPOILERS
I just got back from the PPV taping, you can read the results I don't know everyones names so I am copying this from ROH.com
The opening match is DVD exclusive. 1. Brent Albright vs Tank Toland w/Sweeney and Bobby Dempsey - Albright receives a monster pop and wins with a half nelson suplex. Decent opener 2. Out to kick off the PPV is BJ Whitmer and Dave Prazak. BJ lays down an open challenge which is accepted by MORISHIMA and the belt will be on the line and THE MATCH IS NOW. - Morishima defeats BJ with a backdrop driver and now NIGEL is out and so is DANIELSON who wants a title shot TONIGHT. Dragon and Mori attack Nigel. Dragon holds the belt before Mori takes it back and leaves. Good little match with an ok segment 3. Rocky Romero vs Marfuji - Rocky is sporting new NRC tights. Maru wins with the Shiranui. Really good, tons of nearfalls. really good match 4. Nigel back out and he calls out Mori and Dragon. They come out and beat down Nigel until KENTA makes the save. Nigel and Kenta vs Mori and AmDrag later tonight. 5. Davey Richards vs Erick Stevens - a fan just got kicked out for throwing beer on Davey. Davey wins via keylock submission. decent match 6. The Briscoes vs Claudio and Matt Sydal (partner of CC's choosing) Titles on the line - Briscoes retain with a springboard domsday device on Sydal. DP and Lenny Leonard do a hard sell for the live events and are interrupted by Steen and Generico who ask when they're getting their title shot. Briscoes say come get it and a crazy brawl breaks out. Officials and students break it up and Steen and Generico beat up the students and they all brawl to the back. really really good match and segment afterwards 8. HOMICIDE is out to F*CK TNA and PLEASE DON'T GO chants. Farewell speech and puts over the locker room, the office and the fans. awesome to see Intermission. August 25th return date is announced. 9. Sara Del Rey vs Daizee Haze - Sara wins. shitty 10. Tag Team Sramble Match - Pelle Primeau/Mitch Franklin vs Irish Airborne vs Steen/Generico vs Rave/Pearce - Steen and Generico win after Steen hits a package piledrive on Dave Crist. crazy match with tons of spots and it was really fun live 11. Announced as a PPV match - Delirious vs Roderick Strong - the FIP title is NOT on the line. Roddy wins with a Gibson driver. After the match the NRC come out and beat down Delirious. Strong hits another driver on Delirious on a guardrail set up between the ring and the barrier. Stevens comes out, runs off NRC and carries Delirious to the back. really boring long match, way to long, way pretentious 12. Main Event - Morishima and Bryan Danielson vs KENTA and Nigel McGuiness - Dragon and Mori win after KENTA taps to the Cattle Mutilation. Looks like Nigel may have hurt his arm. After the match, Mori layed out both Nigel AND Dragon with the belt then left. Nigel is helped out of the ring and the Final Countdown plays to end the show. really good main event, Morishima is the shit! I really doubt this was what they wanted to do for their first PPV, nowhere near the level of Barley Legal. It was a really fun show none the less with several really good matches, nothing that blew my mind except Rocky Romero hit an armbar off the top rope which was unreal. I wouldn't order the PPV probably, I dunno though maybe it will transfer to video better. Deffinatly worth the 20 bucks to see live though... I will leave with this... ROH is not ready for PPV or TV. ![]() Last edited by Jordan; 05-13-2007 at 01:30 AM. |

I would have done things quite a bit differently if I were booking (seriously, where the Hell was The Briscoes vs. KENTA/Marufuji), but then again, I've never been in touch with ROH's booking.
I'm not going to call it bad, it's just their style. I called the Roderick Strong vs. Delirious match. I'd have put the FIP World Heavyweight Championship on the line, though. |

I don't see anything special coming out of their last few shows.
Also, where is Jimmy Rave, and how come they haven't got Tony Mamaluke back after he left WWECW? Eh, anyhow, whatever is whatever. |

Plus he does have his jaw to watch out for, so they will take their time before they have him headlining shows, again. I read a report on PWInsider.com which makes this event sound pretty amazing. The main event, ROH World Tag Team Title match and Marufuji/Romero contests sound great. Oh, and they should definitely get Tony Mamaluke back. |

From what I hear, they are just planning on doing shows in a on demand kinda service and not in the PPV event thing we are used to. Far better idea in my opinion. Makes shows cheaper to produce and less of a hit in the pocket from the DVD sales. |

The PPV matches are really good.. Dragon/Morishima v.s Kenta/Nigel was really good, Marafuji/Romero was sick, The Tag Title match was really good, but the Delerious/Strong match really sucked.
ROH is the product of a post ECW independent scene. ECW revolted against WWF and WCW and ROH kind of revolts against ECW. So the compassion in fair in my book. ROH really needs the guys like Homicide, Daniels, and Joe to be the best. It was like a really good independent show, not near the level of a good WWE show, WCW show, or deffinatly an good ECW show. |

It was not sold out either. Any report you read saying that was just to disappointed to tell the truth.

So their Championship match goes on first.....okay. Then everyone from NOAH who can go over an RoH star, does go over an RoH star. Ring of Honor is certainly Bound For Glory all right. I'll stick with PWG though.

I would love to see a feud for the title between Danielson, Nigel, Mori, KENTA, and Maru. That would be amazing.

Smells like burning over there.
'What's that coming over the hills, is it a flame war, is it a flame war!' This isn't ROH strongest shows, but it's going to take a while for them to totally re-build the amazing cards they were having before all the raping of the roster. I'm sure the overall action will be good, the main problem I think they will find is that to me right now they don't have a draw, there's no one on that whole card that I feel I would HAVE to see, sure there's some guys there are decent, I'm not up to date with Japan, so for me personally I don't find that overly interesting. American Dragon is dull and slow, he's like the Benoit of the indys, he should be waaaay more over than he is, but he doesn't have all the tools to do it, decent wrestler, that's about it. McGuiness is overrated IMO Strong, I like, but there's been nothing outstanding about him. To be honest one of the few guys that I find enjoyable one that whole card is Delerious, and that's not just because of the BAH! He can mix up and styles and can put on some really entertaining matches with a number of different shapes and sizes. I will give a shout of to Albright, but I can't really comment on him as I've not seen enough of his Indy work IF Aries can get out of his TNA contract and jumps back ship that will def help them out. I can see ROH becoming the elephant graveyard of the TNA lockeroom in the same way that TNA is to WWE. Which could be good or bad depending on who they get in. Overall, it seems like ROH are just trying to carry as normal and not making a big deal of the PPV and treating it like the normal product which it is. I hope it continues to grow, only time will tell |

For me the draws are Morishima, El Generico, Steen, The Briscoes, and Claudo, these guys are great fuckin wrestlers.

Yeah, I think they're trying to kind of make their roster a draw, giving each guy specialties and character and whatnot. The tag division's got quite a bit of character at the moment. The Briscoes are ROH's MVPs at the moment, and El Generico and Kevin Steen have got a great thing going on. I just plain love El Generico.
Takeshi Morishima is being put over as a beast, so I think they're trying to get a Samoa Joe thing with him going. It could really work out, as apparently Morishima has been more impressive in ROH than he ever was in Pro Wrestling NOAH. I'm not sure how long KENTA and Naomichi Marufuji plan to be around for, but ROH seems to be pushing them as wrestlers worth watching. Claudio Castagnoli has great potential for ROH, too. He's got personality and some great ring skills. His fellow European, Nigel McGuinness, used to seem overrated to me, too, but he's since grown on me a lot. I've watched some of his stuff, and he's really crisp and has presence in the ring. A lot of people dislike Bryan Danielson these days, but I'm still on board with him. Show me a bad match of his and I'll reconsider. I'm not his biggest mark or anything, but I feel the same way about him as I do Chris Benoit: He can work fantastically, and he deserves my respect. |

Honestly, I think people are forgetting that Barely Legal had it's flaws too - Pitbull 2 Vs. Douglas was the shits, although there were a lot more booking aspects that made Barely Legal great that it seems ROH went without. |
