Saw "Guns N' Roses" last week

Meant to write something earlier but been busy.

It was actually a really good show. They didn't go on until pretty late (like 11:20pm), but they played for 2.5 hours.

First things first: you don't go to see this GNR to see GNR, you go to see Axl Rose. No one gives a fuck about anyone else on stage other than him. I spoke to a few mates older than me who saw the original GNR when they were last out here in 93, or even earlier, and they either didn't go or had friends that went and said it was shit.

I was too young to see the original five or the Matt Sorum/Dizzy Reed six, so to just see Axl perform was good enough for me. If i'd seen the originals I probably would have thought this was shit, but I hadn't, so I don't.

I saw a tape of Axl's "comeback" in 2002 where he looked really fat and didn't sound that great. He is completely trimmed down now, in as good a shape as a 40 year old with the amount of drug/alcohol absue he's had could be possibly look. His voice was in great shape. Perhaps lost a touch of his range at the top end, but still fantastic.

Setlist:
Welcome To The Jungle
Its So Easy
Mr Brownstone
Live And Let Die
Sweet Child O' Mine
Better (new)
Knocking On Heaven's Door
The Blues (new)
Out Ta Get Me
Rocket Queen
November Rain
I.R.S (new)
You Could Be Mine
My Michelle
Patience
Nightrain
----
Madagascar
Paradise City

The crowd was way into it early, and loved the classics, but didn't really react to the new stuff, as you'd expect given its not out yet.

Best reaction was the opening to Welcome To The Jungle and to Sweet Child O Mine. I had a personal mark out moment to Rocket Queen, which is my favourite GNR song. It's the only time they've played it this entire tour, including the other show in Melbourne, which is awesome.

It's not the original, but it was still a great show. The crowd loved it, and it was funny, there were a lot of people around my age, which shows that the music has a universal appeal which is timeless, given I was two when Appetite came out.

A tour with the original group would just be insane, they'd pack out football stadiums all over the place.
