Okay now that we got the main answers out of the way...

How will WWE recover from this tragedy?

I mean the press conference made it sound like it was all the steroids fault, that his steroid use caused all of this to happen. And of course this will all fall back on Vince and Co. since they should've prevented Benoit's steroid use.

Will we see a REAL crackdown on steroid use in WWE?

Can WWE overcome the sure fire backlash they will be receiving over the next few months, well maybe years?

I mean Vince BARELY got past jail time during the big steroid trial of the early 90's.

Really, what do you see happening over the next year in pro wrestling?

The same thing they are doing in other sports, which is essentially banning them under any circumstances. They could have kept better tabs on his use/abuse of them too.

Now, I don't agree that this is the WWE's fault but its going to be spun that way by the media and a massive witch hunt is going to ensue and ravage thru the WWE. I don't think it will kill professional wrestling, but it will hurt it and set it back quite a bit. The WWE is going to have to impose strict restrictions on steriod use with severe punishments by violaters, or they are going to be subject to regulation from congress, or being shut down altogether.

I say that because this incident is SO much more severe than anything else to happen from steroid use. Congress is all over major league baseball, and because Barry Bonds is setting a bad example for children. Chris Benoit just murdered his family and killed himself. The backlash on the WWE is going to be far worse than anything we've seen yet.

I know Vince can't control people, but he should really hammer the bucket down on people who use them. I know Edge has used them "once" as he stated honestly, but he saught advice from his doctor who partialyl recommended them for rebuilding tissue.

But now he doesn't use them, whilst he may not be big at all compared to freaks like Poppa Pump / Lesner / Bats, I still lvoe to see him weekly out there.

I think Vince should just get rid of this. Regardless of what we think, or other fans, or the media etc. There's something shit about knowing that "drugs" were used to put people where they are now. While some people just work their arses off naturally.

I dunno. I just don't rate roid or anything else. Drugs that are good are tea, paracetemol and loratadine. Those I don't think I could live without.

There is gonna be big backlash from the media for this. If Benoit had just died then it wouldn't big of news probably to the media, but with him killing his wife and child we are going to be hearing about the Darkside of wrestling for weeks to come.

Maybe this isn't the WWE fault and I'm not blaming them for this, but he had steriods. The reason why he had steriods is because he is a wrestler. So far a lot of people saying roid rage could be a cause nothing offical yet, but someone is gonna have to answer for it, and that someone might be Vince McMahon.

On the flip side, if they can survive the media and government onslaught, this might be better for wrestling.

1) No more roided out monster-freaks that Vince seems determined are the only legit main eventers in wrestling now.
2) More believable, yet entertaining storylines instead of people getting blown up in limos
3) Better media attention and better public image.

The third one because what they really need is some "good" guys basically. They need to get some stars that not only are good entertainers, but nice guys that contribute to the community, make positive public appearences, etc...

If he is truly "straight edge" I could see it. But if its just a gimmick (and they probably know if it is) he won't. The last thing they need is "Heroine addict pro wrestler 'CM Punk' murders homeless man, eats his skin for high".

WWE.com has a statement that totally downplays the steroids angle. It makes some good points, because nothing has really been confirmed in regards to the steroids (they were found in the house, not in him), and they also remind people that Benoit apparently killed his wife and child deliberately, over the course of two days (somehow I missed this last night and have only found news articles about the "two days" part today).

Of course, it's also the only thing to do when the general media is already taking aim to rip you a new one...

I feel that WWE should have counseling and more support for any wrestler thats down, depressed or what so something like this never happens again.

No, but that whole statement makes you a good candidate for a sock puppet.

That's an overstatement. They never really had enough to nail Vince, and besides, what law have they broken now?

They'll slowly go back to normal, though hopefully a bit wiser now.
