You know who I feel sorry for (ECW and SD spoiler)

Johnny Nitro (Now John Morrison).

He won the ECW title in wierd circumstances. Nobody really talked about it, dismissed it during all the Benoit news.

Now he changes his name, leaving the Nitro name behind, and SD gets a new champion, which once again overshadows his announcement. (Hell, there was more coverage when Albert changed his name to A-Train!!!)

Damn, I just made another thread about this. Sorry about that.

John Morrison is an awful name. It just is. Morrison just sounds too friendly. I almost understand changing Johnny, as "Johnny" is more a nickname than an actual birth name, but Johnny Nitro was much better than John Morrison.

Morrison isn't even his last name, is it? John Hennigan was what he won Tough Enough 3 under. This might just be my opinion, but Hennigan sounds much better than Morrison, as well.

I think you're clueless as to why Morrison was chosen, and what the gimmick is. It's not random, it's a take off on Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors. I don't know how popular The Doors are outside of America, so that probably explains it.

No, I realise it was chosen to play off Jim Morrison, I just think it's stupid.

Didn't seem so since you were questioning the logic behind the name change and whether or not it was his real name, and why they didn't just go with his Tuff Enough name. But fair enough, my b.

I was moreso question the promo, with Nitro saying it was his birth name and shit. I knew it wasn't his birth name, and I questioned why they would try and pass it off as such.

I actually think that's what they did. I mean, honestly, is there any other reason for this other than how bad it is? Many have agreed that ECW has been the best in a pile of shit these days, so I'm thinking this might be creative's way to sabotage it a little bit.

"WTF, Diesel and Razor Ramon are Kevin Nash and Scott Hall now? That's retarded. That'll never work."

I don't care what he calls himself, John Whatever is the first thing I've ever found worth watching on ECW (the new ECW or the old ECW) and he will be the next great superstar in wrestling if he stays healthy.

As far as his name, if Shawn Micheals had been Mike Hickenbottom, he'd still have been the best. Stone Cold Steve Williams would have been just as great as Stone Cold Steve Austin. I think Johnny Nitro sounds cooler than John Morrison, but it doesn't make him any less great.

Well that was before the Internet took over the world, of course, but I heard it a lot in the old-style mouth-to-ear communication that went out in the 90s. It might not have been very widespread, but I heard a whole shitload of it when the nWo was starting up.

I think the reason for that was wrestling was still very Character driven back then, with not that many in WWF wrestling under their real names.

Well, thanks for explaining yourself without flipping out on me. Honestly, in any conversations I had about pro wrestling back then, nothing like that was said. Everyone seemed to understand that "Razor Ramon" and "Diesel" were trademarks the WWF owned. Of course, that was even MORE understood once Razor Ramon and Diesel were "brought back" in late 1996 by the short-lived heel Jim Ross.

There were a number of people though who never understood why Hogan, Savage, or Luger was able to carry a name between companies, but Diesel and Razor weren't. I guess the ins and outs of the business were a lot less exposed back then.

Speaking of, did anybody know any markity-marks who believed that the nWo was a legitimate WWF invasion of WCW? Cause I knew quite a few.

I didn't watch wrestling at the time of the original nWo formation, but at least Scott Hall and Kevin Nash are slick sounding names. John Morrison sounds like a guy, who as previously mentioned, I might find working at a supermarket.

Stone Cold Steve Williams would have sucked a dick, as would Mike Hickenbottom. I mean, talented people behind the gimmick, but just awful names. In the case of Mike Hickenbottom, the reason he went under Shawn Michaels was because of how awful Mike Hickenbottom is.

I don't think these are even apt comparisons, anyway. Hennigan isn't even using his real name. It'd be like Shawn Michaels being called Peter Templeton. It's just stupid.

Don't get me wrong, I still love Johnny Nitro. I'm just going to miss his old name. I guess I might warm up to it, though. What would help me is if Joey Matthews was re-signed by the WWE as Joey Mercury (again), and John Morrison and Joey Mercury kicked up a storm on ECW.

I think he's suppossed to be in a new rockstar gimmick based on Jim Morrison. Other than that, it might've been a way to make the crowd forget about his past as Johnny Nitro and start seeing him as a new main eventer.

He was awesome as Johnny Blaze, Johnny Spade, and Johnny Nitro, he is still awesome now. I think the main thing was to get him away from the gay A-list gimmick and sever all ties with Melina so he can actually get a push. Hopefully it works out for the best because he is the closest thing I have to a favorite wrestler at the moment. (bring back Chris Jericho)

Did they change his theme? If they did, then this name change will work.

They changed his theme, and it's the only thing more generic than his name.

What better way to showcase the new wellness program than to emulate a rockstar who died of heart failure at 27.

They say when they performed the autopsy the inside of his body looked like an 80 yr old subject who had abused drugs and alcohol their whole life.
