DVD drive query
How do I find out what type of DVDs my laptop burns before I spend cash on blank DVDs I'll end up throwing away?

DVD-R/+R should work with any DVD burner but if you want to know about your dvd player go to 'My Computer' right click on the drive and select 'Properties' then click on the 'Hardware' tab and you'll see the name and model of it.

If you have Nero, use the Nero InfoTool.

Other than that, I can only think of finding out the model of your drive and just looking at the manufactuer's website.
