Your Top 10 Tracks of All Time
Bit of an idea here. Thinking of a way to expand horizons/share musical tastes. Make a list of your top 10 tracks of all time. Give the track title, artist, album and maybe a sentence as to why its on your list. I'm going to put together my list within the next couple days and edit into this post.
I'm going to give my top 10 in no specific order I decided: Duel of the Iron Mic - GZA/Genius w/Masta Killa & Inspektah Deck off of GZA's Liquid Swords album. Have A Cigar - Pink Floyd Outshined - Soundgarden Hit 'Em Up - 2Pac, definitely one of the greatest diss tracks ever. Protect Ya Neck - Wu Tang Clan off of the 36 Chambers album. Casualties of a Dice Game - Big L Riders on the Storm - The Doors Paid In Full - Eric B & Rakim, 20 years ago and this track (shit the whole album) is as good as anything of today. Voodoo Child - Jimi Hendrix Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin ![]() Last edited by Gonzo; 08-10-2007 at 11:26 AM. |

I'll have to have a good think first, as at the moment I would be inclined to put Dvorak's symphonies No. 5,7,8,9.

Ok, I'm limiting it to 1 song per artists, as I could easily fill this list up with Tool songs. Also, it is in no order.
Prince - "Raspberry Beret" (Around the World in a Day) I'm not a fan of Prince, though I don't mind some of his material. I don't really know why I love this song so much but I do. I especially like the bridge when the violin becomes more prominent, though it's nothing flashy. Dave Matthews Band - "Crash into me" (Crash) It was a choice between this song and "Ants marching," but I eventually went with this one. From the subdued beginning to the gradual layering of other instruments, which build up to a big finish, this song just kicks ass. Rasputina - "Stumpside" (Thanks for the Ether) There were so many songs I could of picked by Rasputina, as I love them so, but "Stumpside" was the first song I heard by them and is what got me into these cello rockers. A mixture of classical and a celtic-vibe (kinda), with weird-assed lyrics, I love it. Tool – “Patient” (Lateralus) Tool kick-ass and so does this song. Aerosmith – “F.I.N.E.” (Pump) With lyrics such as: “One little French kiss, Honey, that’s my kind of trash!” this songs is pure sleaze, like all great Aerosmith songs! It’s also from a great rockin’ album. Bjork – “Hyperballad” (Post) This is my favourite Bjork song, and one of my all time favourites. I love the strings on it. Regina Spektor – “Somedays” (Soviet Kitsch) People rave on about “Samson” but this is also a great song, and with “Carbon Monoxide,” this is my favourite Regina song, and I also like playing it myself on my keyboard. Uncle Tupelo – “Still be Around” (Still feel gone) From the godfathers of Alt Country, this is a great, low-key acoustic song. Whiskeytown – “Jacksonville Skyline” (Pneumonia) Another song from a seminal Alt country rock outfit, and Ryan Adams’ old band before they broke up. It is considered one of the best songs Ryan Adams has ever written, and I would agree with that. Metallica – “One” (And Justice for all) Tasty. |

No Particular Order
1. Corrosion of Conformity - The Arms of God Really Heavy Groove. The Drums sell this track more than anything else. Stanton Moore is perhaps the best drummer I've ever seen live. 2. Merle Haggard - Mama Tried How many people today are screwed up in spite of the best efforts of parents? 3. The Swans - The New Mind Relentless riffs and percussion here. The Melvins were really into the Swans early on, and I can see why. The album this came off of, "Children of God" (IIRC) came out the same year as the Melvins' "Gluey Porch Treatments." 4. Black Flag - Room 13 A scream for help in the madness of Society "It's hard to Survive/ Don't Know if I can do it!" 5. At the Drive In - One Armed Scissor Loneliness, a universal feeling at times. The whole thing was a serious kick in the teeth from what was big at the time (Mainly Nu Metal.). The band is also much better than the bands that came after (Fallout Boy, etc) 6. Peeping Tom - Mojo It's impossible to sum up Mike Patton with one track, but this was the best I could come up with. Behind all the madness his work often brings, the guy has one of the best vocal ranges known to man and is a talented Musician. 7. Acid Bath - The Mortician's Flame Perhaps the most Evil Band ever. Sure, there are Satanic bands, but these guys are just straight up Evil. Any band that has lyrics that include "I Can Smell Abortions on You/I can see Through/ I take the Gun Out of my Mouth and Point it At You!" has issues. They didn't worship Satan, only Serial Killers. Even despite the Heavy Subject Matter, Rax Diggs' vocal delivery against the sinister lyrics work. 8. Jack Johnson - Break down The guy is a good song-writer and plays good sit back and chill music. This song was co-written with Prince Paul (sp?) and Dan the Automator (of Gorillaz fame). Excellent work. 9. Down - Stone the Crow There are moments when Anselmo's work in Down is better than his work in Pantera. This is one of those moments. Pepper Keenan is perhaps one of the most underrated guitarists in Rock, and it shows here. The conflict between the riffs he and Kirk Windstein play are just jaw dropping. 10. Clutch - Elephant Riders One of the best rhythm sections around, bar none. Tim Sult's Guitar work is bluesy as hell. I love Neil's voice on this track and the lyrics are a head trip and a half. There is no middle ground for them, you'll either love this band or hate them. They've influenced more bands than I care to remember, most notably System of a Down. I missed quite a few. |
