JBL is the best color commentator in the business right now.
So I'm driving home listening to Blackened by Metallica and since I was kinda bored, and start thinking up a Wrestlemainia main event entrance with Blackened as the theme music (it almost goes without saying I was main eventing in this fantasy). I make my way down to the ring letting the entire 6 or 7 minutes of the song play before I get in the ring leaving my opponent waiting in the middle of the (I can do this because of course I'm coming in as the champion).
During all of this, I hear JBL's voice in the back of my head saying, "This is masterful, Josh is sending a message by this entrance. He is saying before the match even starts, 'I am champion, we are doing this on my time'. And while he is doing this his opponent is forced to wait and cool down. Before the bell has even rung, Josh is setting the tempo." And so on. While this was all just a little fantasy of a match, it is the exact kind of thing JBL does. He actaully adds color to the commentary. I really do enjoy how he breaks down the matches and explains how it feels, the psychological and other intanglable elements in the match other than, "That move doesn't feel good." On the other hand, Micheal Cole is fairly decent at play by play, about as good as any, but JBL is by far the best color commentator right now...maybe ever. |
