Question A Few Basic Questions...

Ive been wondering about these for a while now... Any insight would be good...

1. Do wrestlers wear cups? (Silly question, but people I know say that they are "Protected"... I want to get that confirmed...)

2. Which leg does the Figure Four and Sharpshooter affect mainly?

3. What was the longest match in WWE/WCW/ECW/NWA history (Not Japan, but that would be nice too)? The longest of all, not of each promotion...

Thanks for any help

Longshot does not have that much rep yet (10+)
1. I remeber I read on Lance Storm's site that he (if not all wrestlers) don't wear a cup. His reason was that if you ever fell on it, it would jam upwards and cause an injury.

I just wish I could find the exact quote.

Road Dogg wore a cup in a match against Chyna to protect him from the Low Blow, but that was an angle so it doesn't count.

As mentioned before, no. Could end up backfiring and causing a bigger injury.

Figure-Four works whichever leg is bent around the opponent's leg. The Sharpshooter hurts both legs, but it mainly affects the lower back.

At least in the modern era, I'd imagine the longest WWE/WCW/ECW/NWA match would be one year's Royal Rumble. Not sure what year, but since each of them are at least an hour long...

Technically you are right, however it will always be applied to affect the left leg.

Instead of making a new thread i'll just ask the question on this one.

Where do the pics from RAW and Smackdown come from for the captions?

Actually the figure four if done properly affects mainly the straight leg, not the bent leg. The point of the move mainly is to use the bent leg as a lever and put downward pressure on the knee of the staight leg, causing it to stretch. There is some damage done to the bent leg mainly through force exerted on it being bent that way but it's nothing like what affects the straight one.

However most wrestlers actually ignore this and just act as if it affects the bent leg.

I've been put in both a Figure Four and the Sharpshooter.

The Figure Four is agony beyond belief, and the knee of the straight leg feels as if its going to give way any moment. The bent leg doesn't hurt that much, but the move has you limping for a few minutes after its been delivered.

The Sharpshooter doesn't affect the legs as much as it does the back. Your spine is pretty bent, and the lower back comes under a lot of pressure.

It took me longer to tap out to the Sharpshooter than it did to the Figure Four Leg Lock.

I've also been in the sharpshooter and the figure four. Sometimes they hurt, other times they don't, depends if the person is actually doing it or pretending. The sharpshooter does nothing to your legs, it's basically a neat looking boston crab.

In the Unreal Story of Professional Wrestling documentary, don't they mention matches lasting up to 5 hours from the early 1900's, when they were actually legit?

Yeah. Early matches were usually 2/3 falls, so it was often like three ironman matches in a row. That's unheard of nowadays when the athletes are supposedly better.

Of course, the pace is a whole lot quicker now. You'd never catch George Hackenschmidt or Frank Gotch doing rolling German suplexes.
