FourFifty's views on Roids in Wrestling.
So I might be the one with the unpopular point of view here, but that has never stopped me from speaking up before.
I’m sick of all the goddamn investigations with ‘roids and other related drugs in the wrestling industry. While there is a high death rate for wrestlers they should know by now what they’re getting into. No one is forcing any pills down their throats. No one is demanding that they take short cuts. So what if a wrestler used steroids? As long as the drugs are in direct relation to their jobs I don’t see an issue.. Some people might be using it for performance, and Ric Flair admitted to using steroids for aesthetic reasons. What we need to remember is it’s all a performance. We’re not watching anything that even resembles a legitimized sport. I’m all for taking performance enhancing drugs out of baseball, football, soccer, hockey, boxing, Olympic sports, basketball, UFC, professional hot dog eating, ping pong, x games, professional video gaming , golf, etc. These are all real competitions. So if there’s going to be this crusade for cleaning up the wrestling industry then let’s expand it. Let’s clean up the entertainment industry! Get the drugs out of music. Get the drugs out of movies. Get the drugs out of television. Get the drugs out of modeling. Hell, get the drugs out of porn. I don’t think it’s totally fair to segregate one branch of the entertainment business just because there has been some shadows have been cast upon it. So I guess the long and short of this post is I believe that any government funded group that is investigating performance enhancing drugs in the wrestling industry needs to expand their minds and look into other forms of entertainment. Wrestling isn’t the only demanding form of entertainment. Most physically demanding? I’d say so. Besides, 10 bucks says that there would be groups cracking down on Hollywood if Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan would have died during the DUIs, or if Owen Wilson would have had a successful suicide attempt. Ah, or if Nicole Richie’s baby turns out to be all sorts of deformed and retarded because of the drugs she takes. To the first person to mention Chris Benoit- That was a tragedy, however after they took a look at his brain it explained a lot about his state of mind. While the cause is directly the industry’s fault you’d think that the man would have had a cat scan or two. Drugs are not the alpha and omega of the Benoit incident. Quote:

I don't think anybody here really cares what "x" wrestler does with his or her life.
Steroids are illegal last I checked though. That's why there is an investigation being done. It has nothing to do with people caring. It's a legal matter. |

I didn't mean to say wrestling killed Benoit. It was meant to be he knew the risks he was taking.

Other than that, I do agree with most of what you said. It's unfortunate that so many wrestlers choose to use steroids and other drugs, but the key word there is choose. The wrestling industry is no worse than any other field of entertainment in that respect. |

People don't want people dying too young. It's actually not your choice to end your life, its agains the law. So I can see why people make a fuss of it. And also when you die in your early 40's with a wife and children, you bet your ass they are going to make a fuss out of it. I understand your point 450, and agree with you for the most part... But you have to understand that it's mostly family and the law (which these guys are breaking) who are going after the drugs in wrestling.
And no you do not have the right to take steriods or any other drugs in America, but of course people will do it. So in short... "So what if they use steriods?" 1. It's illegal 2. It's killing themselves and that is illegal. 3. Why not try to save peoples lives? |

let me first rephrase that and say they are illegal without a doctor's prescription, but we all very well know that some of those prescriptions are bogus anyway. As to why? I don't know. I didn't make the law. Just go here and read the legal part. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anabolic_steroid |

1) Since when has making something illegal not mean it is still a personal choice? It is a personal choice to follow the law, we aren't robots.
2. If some wants to end their life there isn't a lot the law can do. 3. I'm all for saving someone's life if they actally want to be saved. |

But BDC your not the one fighting against all of this... so it doesn't really matter what you think is right. The fact is
You cannot do steroids or related drugs without a proper prescription You cannot kill yourself This is the law, and people who work for the Law will fight until they win or lose. Im not trying to be rude, I know we have the personal choice to do what we want, but obviously some of those choices are prohibited by the law. And when you break them, or in this case when a lot of people break them it becomes necessary to do something about it. Which is what they are doing, I guess. |

Making suicide illegal is........ fucking stupid. Just a side note when it comes to all of this, but how do you punish someone for that?

I could kill myself if I wanted to. The law would not stop me from doing either. But right now I would recieve no benifit from doing either, so I won't. Now I the other hand, speeding is illegal, but I will probably be doing that sometime later. I know you are trying so very hard to win an argument, but the law never stopped anyone from doing anything they really wanted to do. |

There's little actual reason to make them illegal, because the odds of getting "Roid Rage" from responsible use are about that of dying of alcohol poisoning from a single beer. I'm not saying they're health food, nor will I ever, but I don't see the problem. However, to the people who whine that the law shouldn't look into people breaking the law, I say this: Go fuck yourself. Seriously, I don't care if pro wrestlers use steroids. There are far more dangerous things they can be doing. Like wrestling. I've made threads to that effect in the past, and a lot of people agree on here. So don't pretend you're a majority opinion. On the other hand, WWE is a publically traded company that not only ignores drug use, but encourages it. It encourages a lot of things that should be investigated by the Police, the Feds, or Congress, or anyone else who they can get. It's just that simple, really. Quote:
I can't think of a single year that's been this bad for movies, despite the drug use. Or even porn, where there's not only drug use, but a very serious threat of AIDS on a regular basis. Ironically, the porn industry is incredibly more responsible than WWE. What does that tell you? And the kicker: This isn't the only year WWE's had like this. IT may not even be the worst. IT's probably not. It just seems like it with all the other crap piled on top of it. How many big names in any other entertainment field have died before fifty recently? I won't pretend the rest of entertainment is clean, but basically, what you're saying is: It's unfair to single out one portion of an industry, even though it is clearly the biggest offender. I will clarify that the term "biggest offender" is not 100% accurate, but that these are the guys who are "dropping like flies." Beyond that, Music and Hollywood are incredibly vast fields, much larger than WWE if you count only the big leagues and former big leaguers. WWE's actually pretty small by contrast, and they still manage to have more big deaths. So I ask, again, why is it unfair to single them out? |

Realistically, these congress type that want to run in and investigate couldn't care less about Wrestling. Its face time really. You think they cared when any of the Von Erichs, Eddie Guerrero, Davey Boy Smith or Johnny Grunge etc died?
The Benoit thing has put a lot of ugly truths into the mainstream media's attention and these cunts are just looking to get their faces out there. No one really gives a shit about the 'steroid scandal' |
