Mario Kart DS (Wi-Fi cheaters)

I got my Wii and DS online a few days ago and just yesterday I got Mario Kart DS so I could try out the game on Wi-Fi.
I just finished a race against some guy with a clock symbol as his name. He was cheating the whole way through the race.
My red shells didnt effect him, he was able to spawn multiple lightening bolts one after another until he got way out in front on the last lap and even my blue shell didn't effect him.

Is that guy in a minority or will I be seeing alot of that when I play online?

People snake a lot... which isn't cheating, but all that lightning must be cheating.

It's annoying, but your safest bet is to get peoples' friend codes, but Nintendo doesn't make that easy.

Yeah the guy did the snaking thing to. I know it's not cheating but it's very frustrating. It takes a lot, if not all the fun out of a race. No real challange if one guy is snaking and the rest aren't.

Someone must have some issues if they want to win at a videogame against people they will never meet so badly they cheat and use what I call an "unfair technique".

Other than that, online play seems like a lot of fun and everyone, ecept the clock guy, was fair. Mario Kart DS is my first online gaming experiance. I'm sure SSBB will be even more fun.

If everyone in the race can snake then I see no problem with it but if one guy can do it and the rest can't, then doesn't that take the fun away from the race?

The guy snaking will win easily, so I can't see where the fun would come from if you know you are going to win without much challange.
The guys that can't snake don't stand much of a chance so that would take the fun away from the race for them.

I don't mean to whine about it. I don't see it as cheating but I just can't see why anyone would do it unless everyone else in the race could do it or unless they wanted to win so badly they needed to use it.

It's part of the game. Learn how to do it or stop playing. Do you cry when you play a FPS for the first time and all the nerds who have been playing it for years know the map in and out? Is that cheating?

It's perfectly within the limitations of the game to do. If you had a chance to gain an advantage over someone else, wouldn't you take it? If everybody's doing it then it's an even playing field. Bitching about people using an advantage is silly,when you could just as easily learn how to do it.

I could see your viewpoint though; it's the same as a sports team running up the score against a much weaker opponent. True, if nobody else in the game is doing it, there's really no need to. But some people just like to try their best whenever they play, it's good practice if nothing else.

Isn't snaking a glitch and not an actual technique? I've heard a bunch of stuff about it but never paid attention.

I've tried snaking myself on F-Zero GX but after 2 minutes, thought it was more hassle than it would ever be worth.
I guess I just like having a race where I feel everyone has at least a decent chance of winning instead of people storming across ever single course bringing everyone elses chances of 1st place a lot lower. I love a challange so racing someone who is a total pro and knows all the courses backwards is great, even if I lose. There is just something about snaking I find a bit unfair.

I don't think it's a glitch, unless people found a way to exploit it somehow. Could very well be, in which case I agree with you.

I'm sure I have read it was a glitch which is why it's never mentioned in any game that you can snake in and why it's so hard to do.

Snaking

The execution of several consecutive mini-turbos, by drifting back and forth across a straightaway, is a technique known as "snaking", which has caused minor controversy in Wi-Fi play. Some gamers consider snaking to be a positive aspect of the game, as it makes the game more competitive.
