Ring of Glory on Netflix (Disappointed)

I was browsing through Wrestling DVDs on Netflix and came across Vince Russo's Christian wrestling organization, Ring of Glory. You can find all kinds of stuff on netflix, including TNA, WWE, CZW, and independant events.

I am a Christian and I'm also a wrestling fan, so this seemed like a pretty good choice. I expected to see a clean show, full of good wrestling and storylines that revolved around light versus darkness. I kind of got that, but not really.

Percy Pringle (Paul Bearer) starts the show asking people to follow his way, because it's the easy way and we'll get all kinds of cool stuff if we do. I assumed he was a false prophet or a demon, but it turns out he's actually satan. His influence was felt throughout the night. An example: While fighting Bo (Bull) Buchanan, Jazz turns on her husband Rodney Mack and starts to follow Pringle (satan).

Thankfully, not only did satan show up but so did Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, to everyones surprise, was actually the guy who swept the ring and fixed the turnbuckles and stuff. At the end of the show, Jesus confronts satan. Then, satan's minions (Mark Jindrak, Erik Watts, and a few others) begin beating Jesus down and handcuffing him. Thankfully one of the minions changes his mind and joins Christ, only to be beat down himself. Thankfully, the locker room comes out to help. This includes Rodney Mack and Sean (X-Pack) Waltman.

So the show goes on, and Jesus ges back on his feet. He speaks to the new champion, Jimmy Rave, about the responsibility he has being the holder of the "Sword of the Spirit" championship. It's not a belt, it's an actual sword. For those of you wo do not know, the "Sword of the Spirit" is a term used in Ephesians 6 of the Bible, refering to the Word of God (The Bible).

The show had it's ups and downs. Gilbertti had a pretty funny interview with Goldilox and Watts. Jason Sensation also did an impersination of Ron Simmons.

The actualy matches weren't that great. I got the impression that the ropes were really loose. The high flyers had a heck of a time doing springboard moves, and Trinity had a hard time getting her balance for the moonsault and another top rope move.

While I think that Ring of Glory could have eventually developed at least a Christian following, I was a bit let down. Not just with the wrestling, but with the Christianity aspect. The Bible makes a big deal about Jesus appearance when He returns to earth. His eyes are like fire, his hair is shining white, he's riding on a horse, his feet glow like they were in a bronze furnace... Basically it's going to be a fearful thing for those who stand against Him in those times.

In Ring of Glory, he's a freakin' mop guy. If the man would have claimed to be an angel from heaven or even a prophet of God, it would have been a lot more interesting. Same thing with Pringle. Playing a prophet of satan or a fellow fallen angel would have been nice, but satan himself?

My final let down was the absence of the "AJ Styles vs Abyss" match that I assumed happened at this event. AJ does address the crowd at the end of the DVD, but I really enjoy seeing him wrestle.

Overall, with some storyline adjustments and tighter ropes, this DVD could have been a lot better. However, it was what it was, and for whatever reason the whole thing was scrapped.

I didn't think about that... but you've got a point. You would have to had seen it to get the true feeling. "Jesus" actually resembles Val Venis, and can probably bench atleast 350. He's a talker too. I must have fast forwarded for 5 straight minutes. Priceless.
