Does the size of the ring affect your perception?
Watching TNA right now, and several of the shots make the ring look tiny. I don't know. There's something so much less epic about a match when the ring looks small.
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year olds life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.--John Rogers |

The WWE ring looks a lot smaller live than it does seeing it on tv.... but it also makes the wrestlers look a lot bigger.
I don't really care how big the ring is. Just as long as it's not too big and not too small. Yes I have a small penis

I actually went to a TNA house show, and that ring is fucking small. Way smaller than it looks on tv, if thats at all possible.

Yeah, the TNA bit was mostly just placement of the two wrestlers and the camera angle at the time, which made all the difference in the world. Contrast it with even thirty seconds later, and the difference was radical.
I think, honestly, I'd rather see a ring that was too large than a ring that was too small. |

Yeah, I'm still not big on the 6 sided ring full stop. I think it could be used in a few PPVs as a stipulation, and then maybe a bi-annual PPV with the 6-sided ring.
Bah, back onto the topic. Simple, I agree with KK. |

6-sided should be reserved for ultimate x.

Small rings make the company look amture. RoH has a small ring, that for tat fact alone, they suck. Also, everyone they employ is a spot monkey.

Smaller rings seem to make for faster paced matches. Which is a good thing.

I think it's because in the square ring, the sides are all... expanded if you know what I mean. The wrestler's presence is projected out there.
The six-sided ring even though it may or may not have the same area, creates a feeling of being closed in and confined. It doesn't project presence as much. Or I could just be making things up. |

Technically, the six sided ring has a greater area than the WWE ring. For whatever that's worth...
Also the WCW/ECW size was my personal favorite. |

Well does anyone have actual estimates on the ring size? I believe WWE either has 18x18 feet, or 20x20 feet.

Also I think it's more the size of the ring than the camera shots...though they are also in a sound studio, so the area itself is fairly small.

Actually, ring size really doesn't really affect my perception when it comes to the match. What does, however, is the lighting. I prefer a more brighter, red environment for watching wrestling, which to me makes RAW ideal. Smackdown is too blue for my liking, and it psychologically makes me enjoy the show less. Don't get me started on WCW Thunder.

I always found WCW rings to be too small, yet at the same time, ECW ring was perfect. I guess it just has to do with the style of wrestling. I think WWE has the right size. TNA SUCKS

The old world of sport rings used to be massive in height, so the distance between the floor and the canvas would be huge and then the tope rope would be lower than normal.
This was done for 2 reasons: 1. To give everyone a decent view as most of the shows were done in big halls with no terrace seats 2. To make the wrestlers look massive And it works, I’ve worked in one like it, you feel fucking huge, but if you’re doing a dive it’s quite scary |

FWIW...
Area of square = s² Area of hexagon = 2.6s² (where s = length of one side) Anybody know the length of one side of TNA's ring? |

When TNA first introduced the 6-sided ring they were constantly banging on about its dimensions, there has to be video of that somewhere.
