The segment that "made" the nWo (Videos Inside)
well obviously Hogan joining the nWo at Bash formed the nWo, but I believe one episode of Nitro in July of 96 really made the nWo and showed perfectly the anything can happen aura that WCW had around that time. I'm actually watching the entire segment right now and had not seen the entire thing since it originally air. Looking back at it 11 years later and 11 years older, I might argue it was the best Nitro segment ever produced.
I'm sure most of you have seen bits and pieces of it before, if not the whole thing. I'm talking about the show where Nash and Hall attacked Anderson, American Males and Rey Mysterio in the back, while there was a huge match between the Horsemen vs Sting/Luger/Savage going on. Basically, for those who have not seen it before, Jimmy Hart, who was part of the Dungeon, comes down to the ring and starts screaming for everyone to get to the back as thier has been an attack. Camera pans to the back and Buff and Anderson are down while Nash and Hall are weilding baseball bats. They attack Riggs next and then Nash throws Mysterio into the trailor in the infamous shot. Then we basically get great performances and production from everyone including the wrestlers, announcers, paremedics, etc... They stopped the show and it was almost played to the audience like any Breaking News story you would see on the news. People were screaming, ambulances and fire trucks came in, and it just came off so real. Some neat things they did was they kept having Rey say he saw 4 guys, not 3. Everyone kept telling him that only 3 guys were in the nWo, but Rey insisted he saw 4. Obviously the Giant was the next guy. Also, Meng came in out of nowhere and got in Benoits face and started shoving him as all this was happening. Benoit kept screaming "Not now" at him. Basically Benoit and the Dungeon were in a heated feud at the time and I thought that was really cool how they managed to increase tension and add another piece to this whole thing 15 minutes later. Anyway, I'm babbling cause I just watched it and it amazed me even today. If you guys can get it, watch the entire thing. This is exactly the kind of this that's lost in wrestling today. 20 Minute Video Segment Last edited by Loose Cannon; 12-08-2007 at 03:46 PM. |

oh man I remember that!, I was really buying it at the time too, although I was only 9 lol, that was some good stuff, Mysterio getting tossed at that trailer looked so violent back then, he was not letting the medics take off his mask afterward.

Didn't they say that it looked so legit that neighbors of the arena called police and they had to tell the police what was happening?

Nash sucks in the ring, but the nWo was a pretty important part of wrestling history, so he has that much going for him.
Something like the nWo is really needed in today's climate. No, not an nWo clone, just the same "we will do anything we like" attitude. A real DX or nWo spirit, something that the WWE has not been able to produce with their (most recent) incarnations of the groups. Mr. Kennedy and Carlito would be perfect for something like that right now. Both guys have their fan bases depleting a little. Carlito is apparently unmotivated, and Kennedy has the whole steroids thing to live down. Maybe throw in John Morrison and The Miz, who have a bit of backstage heat on them, and even someone as simple as Charlie Haas, who is just looking to get noticed. A simple stable like that would kick so much ass. |

Nash does not suck in ring. He can work a great match and moves the way a big man should , quad tearing aside. Nash has always been a smart big man too. I mean, he could be like Bats and run around the ring and exhuast himself (which doesn't make any sences as Bats has asthema). No, Nash knows to beat him, you have to get close to him. He also knows he has be better reach than most people. So he is going to catch before you are close enough to catch him. Sure he only has like 4 moves (including punches) but one of those 4 moves is the lazyknife powerbomb. Match is over as soon as he hits that. Are you ever going to get a 5 star classic out of Nash, maybe if your name is Shawn Micheals. But he is entertaining in the ring.

Also, Nash could not run around the ring like Bats. He'd injure himself like five times. I have never known Kevin Nash to be famous for his ring psychology, either.

Now Bats on the other hand, runs around and beats you up and exerts way more energy in the early going so if the match lastes to long, his asthematic ass is out afterwards. Bats still makes enough sence in ring, he is just trying to take his opponet out as fast as possible. |

Also, ring psychology just means the match makes sence, not that it will be a fantastic match. And also, if you watched TNA's clusterfuck mainevent last night, Nash did run around the ring to do a springboard plancha. |

Kevin Nash is my new hero in Wrestling. Let's see, the man is a terrible wrestler, dresses like a bum, can bury entire divisions, and can still convince people to hire him.
That, and in regards to his title reign, a lot of his failure at Champion was due to his opponents. You are not going to draw huge money with Sid and Mabel as your opponents. |

I agree with BDC here. Nash does his job well in the ring. I get the big man feel from him. Like I did with Kane when he 1st came about and before they made a pussy of him.
When I was growing up I used to love the Diesel character because of that element of the no nonsense, beat the crap out of you kind of thing, same with Kane, or Taker back in the day. I don't get that from BDV or any big guys today. Also I'd like to see the nWo video, haven't seen it all since it was on TV |

Nash's punches make up for his lack of moves, he doesn't need to do a lot! He's so big his punches are enough, like Khali.
But he also had/has the big boot, the sidewalk slam, snake eyes, a few submissions ( really rest holds ), and the powerbomb. Plus he has had great matches in WWE, with Bret Hart, and HBK, Razor, and The Undertaker. So I would say he is the best guy of his size in the ring ever, for sure. |

Yeah totally agree. Although when Henry 1st returned to Smackdown(begining of 06?) he had this feel to him. But they haven't been careful with how they used him, and now hes wasting time on ECW. Not that I'm a fan or anything, just saying, if they HAVE to have him there, then keep it constant and meaningful.

One thing I absolutely loved about the NWO was when you'd have "The Proceeding announcement has been paid for by the new world order" segments.

Henry kind of does have that feel. Until you realize that he isn't that threatening. I mean, there's no need to fear someone if you're pretty damn sure you could outrun them without breaking up a sweat. When he's just standing around he has an imposing presence, but when he starts to move he resembles nothing so much as a tranquilized bear.

Growing up and watching the nWo at the time, they always sent a chill down my spine each time they did something huge. Like the one LC mentioned. I also remember that when Ric Flair was at WCW and had a match, we were waiting, and waiting. Then Tony Schiavone started screaming "CUT TO THE BACK! NOW! NOW NOW!" Camera goes to Ric Flair being laid out and a few feet away, I think it was Scott Steiner in his lead pipe phase.
Ah. Good times. Nothing really "big" has happened since. |

This whole thread is another reason why the WWE are idiots for sitting back on the WCW archives and not making a definitive nWo DVD

The only thing the WWE did in regards to the nWo that I even enjoyed was their entrance. When the TV cut to black and white I marked out for some reason.

k, I had to use Movie Maker to take the segment out of the entire show. The segment will be seperated into 2 parts and will be on You Tube. Hopefully, no errors occur

That was awesome, i forgot about it. They really had alot of people going, hell, I knew wrestlign was fake but I thought this might be real! Macho on the top of the limo was awesome, I spent the whole night wondering if he would come back, or if he was ok! All the WCW guys coming together even though they were enemies was gold too. The women screaming, mongo flipping out, alll perfect. That could not have been better. the attacks looked real, i thought rey was dead.
Its been a long time since something was this goog on TV. Good call. |

alright kids, got them uploaded. they are in the 1st post. enjoy.
I may be thinking about bringing back Random Rewind now that I know I can take segments out of shows. I have so much footage, so I might as well do things with it |

Thanks LC
That was an awesome segment...never saw the full thing. If I had just turned on the TV towards the end there (given that I was only 7 at the time) I would have totally thought the careers of Rey, Arn, and the Males were over. And I'm all for a return of Random Rewind |

Heenan walking out too, that was a little something that made it so much more real. That shit was the bomb.
I used to watch the 11 PM replay of Nitro, after watching the 8 pm live show, thats how good 96 nitro was. Shit, all the way until Starcade 97 it was hotness. |
