Quick X-Box questions

1) Would some sort of chill-mat (like they have for laptop comuters) help prevent rrod?

2) What game should I get first

3) What do I need to set up x-box live?

1) Honestly, most don't. Some even speed it up by being made of poor materials, or sucking power from the console. Talk to people at a local GameStop or Best Buy about it, and they can give you better info than me shoddy text. As long as the console is on a smooth surface, sideways, and is ventalated (and shitty spelling to boot), it'll be fine for the most part.

2) Depends. The best retail multiplayer games are COD4, Gears, Halo 3, and Madden 08. Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Assassin's Creed are the best single player games at the time. Any of those games will keep you entertained probably, since they're all good stuff.

3) You need to either use a wireless game adapter or run an ethernet cable from your computer/router/modem into the console. I think a phone/television jack might work depending on your connection. You may have to open ports to connect, or just to make the connection open.

If you need help, I recommend this as it will give you pretty good instructions, and links to decent pages if that one doesn't suit you. Microsoft has some stuff on the main site as well...

1. Maybe, but you're talking about lowering the external temperature, which generally has a minimal effect on the internal temperature of something. Buy an elite, which in all probability will run cooler.

2. Rock Band. Naw, you'll probably find it dumb.

3. You mean technically?

Where I live, the people who work there actually know what they're talking about... Maybe that's not true anywhere else?

1. Probably. But I heard that if you got the warranty and you use one of the coolers, your warranty is voided.

2. Fryza hit all the good titles out right now. Scrounge around for Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Or wait for Conviction.

3. A credit card for your account. The $99 wireless hookup or run a cable.

You don't exactly void your warranty for using a cooler. However, any damage done by one will not be covered. This is mostly an issue for something like the Intercooler, which fries your power outlet.

If you get a cooling unit, get one which plugs in separately, rather than drawing power from the outlet or USB ports. And for the most part, you probably shouldn't.

As long as the air can be circulated so it doesn't overheat, I don't think the entertainment center should hurt it too much. And if it did, just call Microsoft and neglect to mention it was enclosed and they'll repair/replace it.

And don't put it on carpet... That's a no-no...
