When the time comes...

When the time eventually comes and TNA decide they want to go head to head against WWE you know who they need. Eric Bischoff.

I just watched disc 2 of the 15 year anniversary of Raw. I honestly think that Bischoff as a figurehead of the company (kafabe wise) couldwork wonders. TNA already has a roster that resembles WCW as well as many other aspects. If they cannot get away from that when the time comes, then maybe they should just run with it. I think that Bischoff could lead the charge for TNA. In a Monday Night War against Vince, he's a logical choice. And I believe having him as a direct opponent of Vince again could draw big.

Go ahead and flame me now...

TNA is at least 5 years away before they can dream of going up against RAW.

By then, we could be saying that Val Venis is the best WWE booker they've ever seen and that he'd be a good figurehead for TNA.

TNA isn't neccessarily 5 years away. They could (emphasis on could) be one good angle or gimmick away from the big time. They could also be one big WWE cock-up away. Vince obviously is keeping them in check otherwise Carlitto would be gone by now. Its one thing that TNA got a few WWE guys, some of them beyond reasonable. But if Vince is keeping talent for the sake of TNA not getting them, they aren't as far away as you think in my opinion.

Even if Bischoff was much better than he was in later WWE years, it would seem like another WCW stunt, considering the Russo-Bischoff administration in the failing years.

It would take some monumental shit to make people skip the the comparison.

TNA will be dead before they ever go head to head with WWE.

They should worry more about their own God awful product before worrying about WWE.

It's not a figurehead that they need for success. Jim Cornette could do a fine job, but when their product just doesn't look top-notch and professional, it doesn't matter who's "calling the shots." Part of this has to do with always shooting in the Impact Zone, and it also has to do with TNA's overall presentation, lighting, and production values for their TV shows. It also doesn't help that TNA has no idea how to develop a character for TV exposure and how to get someone over.

Until it looks like the big time, no amount of big stars can make it truly feel like the big time.

The Bish being a figure head of a company with a group of WCW/WWE wrestlers? Who ever thought of this idea loves TNA just as much as I love TNA, and Nazis.

I don't watch TNA. I just saw the bit with Bischoff on the Raw 15th anniversary DVD's and the idea came to me. And its internet lore that the first person to mention Hitler or the Nazi's loses.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have a few mates who love TNA, but my main gripe with it has always been the dark arena and the silly laser lights. Lasers went out of fashion years ago, and the dark arena just makes it look small, which I suppose it is. The second entranceway takes up valuable room, and as far as I have seen they never have the double entrance on PPV's in other arena's anyway, so its not a gimmick they can travel with easily. Not only that but any pyro they seem to use is always so small and weak. If they can't use the big pyro (whethers its cost, space restraints or whatever) maybe they should just do without.
Also I watched a TNA PPV round a mates not so long ago (Turning point or Genesis) and was disappointed as a new viewer that they had no real intro to the wrestlers or the fued. In the 5 matches that I saw there was no video package, no real explaination before the match why the two guys / teams were fighting each other. I agreed to watch as they (my firends) had said that TNA was worth a watch and its better than before. But I was unimpressed by having to guess at what was going on or having to be told great chunks of storyline by friends just to get it.

Anyway, the short story is that I'm not saying that TNA are ready for the big time, just when the time comes I think brining in Bischoff to take on Vince one more time, could be an interesting storyline. We all know that the best characters in wrestling are the ones which are the most like the guy playing the part. And if anyone once had a passion to beat Vince (and did so successfully for 88 weeks iirc) its The Bish.

Again, partly my point. If they are going to be stuck with people saying "oh its just like WCW" then maybe they should just hire Bischoff and make a thing of it. Don't try to make people see round it, just turn it to your advantage as best you can.

Why the fuck would they want to go head to head with WWE?

They would lose ratings. WWE would lose ratings. Who would lose out more would depends on things at the time (right now, TNA would lose about 90% of there ratings...) but at no time will it ever be in the company's benefit to do so.

If you wanted to open a porn shop, would you open one right next door to the established porn shop or on the other side of town?

The only way there will be a head to head again is if WWE decide to try and crush TNA by putting on a programme competing with them which would be a very agressive tactic by a company which would have to be very confident. TNA will never choose to go head to head with WWE.

WCW was only a level or two above where TNA is now when they decided to go head to head with RAW.

It ended up being the best thing the wrestling world had seen in decades.

Going head to head with WWE has to be a goal for TNA. The one on one ratings war is the best thing about having two different promotions. It causes conflict, and conflict is what all good entertainment is about. It would be a very, very smart move for TNA to go head to head with the WWE, but not until they have their shit together.

Your post implies that you don't think head to head is a good idea. Were you even a wrestling fan during the Monday Night Wars?

Which was the result of a series of happy accidents. Fuck, a lot of what happened to make the Monday Night Wars great could not happen in this day and age. Vince has seen to that.

So...I mean, repeating that formula could mean a new Monday Night Wars, and Chris Benoit could come back from the dead and turn up in TNA, main eventing in a surprise face turn (Who knew he'd be over with the mutants in Florida after choking his wife?).

I wouldn't bank on either, though, because I abhor the simplistic mentality that seems to cook up these quick fix answers.
